Add a censorship-resitant technology such as V2RAY or UPD-over-TCP.
Mullvad VPN uses Wireguard obfuscation (UDP2TCP). IVPN on iOS uses V2RAY. Those protocols allows to reliably bypass censorship. Proton on the other hand only has Stealth, which is unreliable and often disconnects.
Request : Add a censorship-resitant technology such as V2RAY or UPD-over-TCP.

VPNs are soo mainstream now that they are blocked everywhere even in starbucks now. We need better censorship resistant technologies and being able to switch separetely like choosing protocol, ports and even dpi resistant technologies. I only care about linux btw so if you add this everywhere but linux WILL BE EVEN WORSE AND WILL MAKE MY BLOOD BOIL!! So this is assuming features parity.

This discussion highlights an important need in modern VPN systems—stronger censorship-resistant technologies that ensure stable, reliable access even in restricted environments. Users are clearly pointing out that current solutions like Stealth mode are not always consistent, especially compared to more advanced approaches such as V2Ray or UDP-over-TCP. The core intent here is to improve freedom, stability, & security for users in high-censorship regions.
In the same way, technology-focused platforms like Crew Logout also emphasize practical digital solutions that improve system efficiency and modern workflow management. It shares useful tech-related insights and tools that help users understand how digital systems can be improved for better performance and reliability. This topic also connects well with the growing demand for clear and accessible tech information. Many users today want easy explanations of advanced systems so they can understand how technologies like VPN protocols or secure networks actually work. Educational tech platforms play a key role in bridging this gap by making complex topics easier to learn.

You are 100% wrong. And all the others who say that are also, so what do you need to do? Bypassing DPI systems, making sure X-RAY is used not just as a v2ray, rotating proxies, for which you can even buy subscriptions (...somewhere...) which then connect to ProtonVPN this is literally done by millions this way.

This is a highly important feature, especially for users in countries with heavy internet censorship such as Iran, China, and Russia. In these environments, VPNs serve not only as privacy tools but as essential gateways to the free and open internet. Proton’s current obfuscation options, including Stealth, are unfortunately ineffective in such regions. In contrast, protocols like V2Ray have proven to be significantly more reliable in bypassing sophisticated censorship systems. Adding support for V2Ray or similar censorship-resistant technologies would be a major step forward for users in these countries.

I think this is critical. Afterall, this is one of the main reasons for Proton VPN to exist. https://protonvpn.com/blog/fight-censorship-2024

I was not able to use proton in China...
I found out the Chinese are brilliant at circumventing their own Great firewall
It could be critical to Proton on to embedded some of the various features developed in the Clash OSS Hydra. (China removed the official repo and thousands new emerged from past forks)
The differents Hydra head repos are listed here:

In fact I was thinking about migrating to Mullvad VPN, they say it's good.
The only thing is I like Proton but I would like to have more modern funcionality paying it -

Good idea, I love the vpn but I hate the random disconnects and cut outs.
This will take a lot of funding by proton but is worth while, a good advertisement if done in pair w their good service currently

I don't know what VPN protocols are used by Proton, but have found in the past that Proton can suddenly disconnect. Having a Kill Switch is not much comfort, so stopped using it. Is the latest version of Proton VPN any better?

Infact, ProtonVPN now take no efforts on obfuscation i believed. Their even using normal api post method to establish the connection on beginning, which can easily been block by government like China. They just need block the DNS query and Boom! You lost connection with Free world. (I check the logs and believed thats the reason we Can’t use Proton in China.Solved easily by take another vpn connection first to cache the Api address DNS records. After TTL, I’ll lost connection if I tried reconnect. ) Proton you are the expert in Tor Why not just leave a bridge for api? Fix Api DNS issues, Bring Free to People……

I vote for it too. I buy 2 years subscription since 2018 and now it makes no sense at all, because my favorite Proton services (VPN, Mail, Wallet, Drive, etc) are no longer work in Russia.
I am not a fighter for the rights, I just want to continue using Proton services as I did for many years.
Other VPN providers solved the issue with censorship resistance, you can do it do, Proton!

Currently Proton VPN doesn't work in Russia. Censorship resistance features may not bypass Chinese Firewall, but it will be enough to bypass Russian government censorship attempts. I'm not sure that precisely technologies described above should be developed to do this, but because some ~1$/month VPNs are able to bypass censorship in Russia, I'm confident that solution exists and that it is easy to implement.
As far as I know, Iran has similar picture with censorship attempts.Maybe Proton VPN won't help people in China, but it could help people in every other part of the world (if this part has internet access). VPNs can be and some already are a solution to censorship attempts even in countries with worst censorship policies.
I'm not an expert, but I seriously doubt that Iran (or any other country) has firewall similar to China's. If they would've implemented such massive thing it would've be done in Russia in no time. But I never heard of that. Some other governments trying to test how far they can go with authoritarian policies. Building firewall that great as China has requires a lot of resourses. Russian government trying to do this since mid-2010s, but today they're still nowhere near achieving this. So what governments that go this way do? They implement cheap solutions. Effectiveness of these censorship attempts could be reduced if there are easy to find and to use anti-censorship tools (such as VPNs). By implementing these or similar technologies into Proton VPN Proton helps fight such government policies not only in Russia or Iran, but in all future countries which fell into authoritarian regimes.
Implementing these anti-censorship technologies will also discourage, to some extent, any government in any part of the world from blocking internet access, because there will be another available tool to bypass such censorship policies.

I doubt that ProtonVPN can bypass Iranian or Chinese Firewall.
If you really life in a cencored country Proton won't help a lot with these protocolls.
