I find it inexplicable that you no longer support older versions of Windows, I use Win7 Pro and will never upgrade to Windows versions 10, 11, that are actually less private than older versions. Friends who have updated to Win10 and 11 have had quite a few problems.
I have a PROTON UNLIMITED account until DEC 8 2024 but no longer can use the VPN, and Mail Bridge also insists I "update" to a version that doesn't support Win7, so I will not be renewing my account.
Instead, I now have chosen KASPERSKSY AV and VPN - your competitor, which…

  4. Pop-up notifications in the Proton VPN application, specifically those promoting Proton Duo

I'm writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with the recent implementation of pop-up notifications in the Proton VPN application, specifically those promoting Proton Duo.

As a paid subscriber, I find these pop-ups completely unacceptable for the following reasons:

    1. Disruption: They interrupt my use of the service I'm already paying for.
    2. Irrelevance: I have the subscription I want and need; additional offers are unnecessary.
    3. Respect: As a paying customer, I expect my chosen user experience to be respected without intrusive marketing.

I request the immediate cessation of all promotional pop-ups within the Proton VPN application for paid subscribers. This is not…

  6. GUI contrast

For some with impaired vision, the Proton interface is very hard to read. Is there any chance of getting a light background with black letters and a larger font?

  7. By having it actually connect.

instead of free proton saying connecting and never connects, let's try making it connect and learning about how to do that more easily without being redirected to compare plans or upgrading, it seems that's all you all want to discuss or suggest.

  8. Android improvements (country names, profiles, metrics, random connections)

A posted this on reddit, but I figured I'd put it here as well.

I've been a longtime user of ProtonMail and ProtonVPN and am incredibly grateful of everything they've done to make privacy accessible to more people. I also really love the new ProtonMail app. But ProtonVPN has problems.
To some it up, it seems like functionality has been sacrificed for vague aesthetics.
    Specifics:
    1. The name of the country you are connected to is in tiny text down near the bottom of the screen. This is even worse if you are connected to the "fastest country". Instead most…

  9. Diskless Servers on SecureCore

Maybe this is already being done as of recent, but i can't find confirmation anywhere that the infrastucture is configured in such a manner.
Would increase my already high trust witrh Proton, for ProtnVPN, to confirm they run their servers diskless, at least in the SecureCore.

  11. VPN Update - Make More Secure

It is really rather worrying that under Windows and presumably macOS - though not a big problem under Linux - Proton VPN disables itself during updates, leaving the OS to do as it pleases unless Permanent Killswitch is enabled. There are better ways of performing an update.

Ideally, the update would be downloaded and then all networking shut down while the app resets. Only when the app is up and running again would networking be enabled again and the previous VPN connection re-established. If a complete OS reset were required in these conditions, so be it, just warn users to…

  12. Enable Filters With Smart Routing

I am located in a country that has some servers with Smart Routing and some without, however, when I click on fast connection, it seems to do so completely randomly, and the difference in latency is brutal (5ms x 200ms).

The program already shows which servers use this, but to avoid connecting to a specific server every single time, my request is very simple: I would like one of the filters to be a simple "Yes/No" to include Smart Routing them when connecting.

Oh yes, please also improve the automatic search to take latency into account, because "fastest server" is…

  13. Tiered VPN plan (with 3 country choices + free servers)

Like ProtonMail, it would likely attract more people who'd choose to pay for a VPN plan (including myself) if there was a tiered VPN pricing plan coupled with the ProtonMail plan (e.g. a ProtonMail + VPN plan with access to 1-3 servers vs. access to all servers available). One that you can pay less per month than the full VPN + Mail plan (7.99€), but more than the ProtonMail stand-alone plan (3.29€). A plan where you get to choose 3 specific country VPN servers that you have access to, instead of a plan that allows all the countries available.

  14. Provide better control over Server Selection

I would like to be able to build a Profile containing a personalized list of Preferred Servers and a list of Excluded servers.
I have found that certain servers meet my needs better than others.
I mostly prefer US based servers close to my actual location to minimize latency.
I have also found that I DO NOT want to use ANY server located in Virginia (VA), because of VA laws requiring ID verification on certain sites. To that I say - ***** Virginia!
I would therefore like to be able to build an EXCLUDE LIST, which in my case would…

  15. Do NOT put version number into the path (folder name) of executable binaries!

Hardcoding the version number into the path (folder name) of executable binaries in ProtonVPN, Proton Mail Bridge is generally a VERY BAD IDEA and poor software engineering. Every time these programs update themselves, I need to manually update Windows Firewall rules, as - according to Proton Support - it is not possible for their software to update firewall rules automatically...

  16. CVE-2024-3661 (TunnelVision)

Make sure ProtonVPN is safe against CVE-2024-3661 (TunnelVision)!

According to the researchers responsible for the finding: "Using network namespaces on Linux can completely fix this behavior."

  17. Split Tunneling: Possibility of choosing apps by active processes

Currently you can only choose apps by searching for .exe files on system or IP.
It would be great to be able to select apps by active processes.
Ex: It's very difficult to activate the feature in MS Store apps. You have to look for the files that are HIDDEN by default. And it doesn't always work.
Via active processes would be much more practical and faster.

Other VPNs already allow this in addition to the way currently implemented by Proton.

  18. Offer WireGuard inside SOCKS5 for IPv4 and tcp-only Wi-Fi

A trouble with WireGuard is that it is only udp

    Another trouble is that
    — som sites, like AWS, only offers IPv6 for free, not IPv4
    — outdated public Wi-Fi may only support IPv4, no IPv6
    — outdated public Wi-FI may only support tcp port 443

    Therefore,

Proton VPN should support WireGuard udp encapsulated in SOCKS5 server port tcp/443

This is supported by the Android non-root outbound firewall Rethink
    — tunneled traffic should be both IPv4 and IPv6
    — transport traffic should be be both IPv4 and IPv6

Proton holds antiquated views on IPv6:
    — After aws 2023 charges for…

  19. Wisconsin server

Add server in Wisconsin. I cannot access local sports etc. This is a huge deterrent to using Proton in Wisconsin. Madison or Milwaukee would be ideal.

  20. Albanian servers

    Add servers from Albania.
Google adds are not available in Albania so when connected to Albanian servers you won't see add on YouTube or other Google services.
