Make a Lite version of Proton apps (VPN, drive, mail, e.t.c), for people on older android devices like android 5 (or even android 4)..
Since the majority of proton apps need a minimum of android of 8 and 9 (except for calendar), I think this would be a good idea for both sides (customers and business). People on lower/older end devices get to use proton services, which also leads to the point of more potential customers. Would really like this to happen. kind regards

Device status indicator (how many out of 10 are in use)
Its annoying that their is no overview of how many devices your using out of the 10 allowed.
Also, it would be nice to be able to name your devices if this feature is added.87 votes -
Tailscale exit nodes
I would love to be able to use Proton VPN as exit nodes on Tailscale.
They recently announced support for Mullvad exit nodes, and I'm sure they would be interested in adding more options:

Copy forwarded port from the tray icon menu
With the new Windows app, copying the port can get a bit annoying. Currently, the way to copy the port is by opening the app, hovering over 'Port forwarding', and clicking the copy icon. This adds a lot of unnecessary delay, like waiting for the app to open or for the flyout with the port to fade in.
Adding a 'Copy port' entry in the tray icon menu would be a quick and easy way to quickly copy the forwarded port number.

Use RPKI to protect Proton VPN customers from BGP hijacking
In 2020, Proton was the victim of BGP hijacking. In a blog post about the incident, Proton said it was securing its own BGP route announcements using RPKI. However, Proton VPN's ISP (M247, AS9009) does not use RPKI to verify other sites' announcements. This can be seen by going to the Is BGP Safe Yet website Proton linked to in its own blog post. Proton should use RPKI to verify the routes to sites its customers visit so the customers are protected from BGP hijacking of the sites they visit.

Show server’s/country’s flag on browser’s extension instead of locked icon
It would be a nice visualization and addition to
the browser extension if we could see the flag of the servers or countries we connect to instead of having a green lock. The new browser extension would allow us to see and remember what country we are connected to without having to click the extension every time to see if we are connected . However, when browser extension is not connected to a server I think it is convenient to display a red unlocked icon, since we aren’t connected to a server6 votes -
Windows App Icon Not Showing When Active Since New Update
The tray icon on Windows shows a green lock now, but the program itself doesn't on the Taskbar, which was something I looked at the most. Now, I have no idea if my VPN is active without opening the program or navigating to see the tray icon. Please fix.

Split Tunneling: Two Different VPN Connections Simultaneously
If technically feasible, I would find it great if two VPN connections could be established simultaneously via split tunneling, for example one for streaming and one for everything else, or one with port-forwarding and at the same time a second one without port-forwarding.

Proton VPN: Add regional DNS resolvers to reduce latency outside Europe
Many Proton VPN users outside of Europe (e.g. in Australia, New Zealand, SE Asia, and South America) experience slow DNS resolution when using Proton DNS via VPN — especially on mobile apps like Proton Mail, which rely on many secure subdomains.
Currently, Proton DNS resolvers appear to be hosted in Switzerland (or nearby), which introduces noticeable latency for users on the other side of the globe — even when connected to local VPN servers like Melbourne or Sydney.
Suggestion: Deploy regional Proton DNS resolvers or mirrors in long-latency zones like:

Ability to see current load of selected servers - web interface or API
I use the router config exclusively.
Need a quick way other than visiting the web dashboard and drilling down to find current load of any given server... it's cumbersome to visit the web page, click through the menu, scroll down to country, expand the list, then open browser search to find the server you're looking for.
An API would be awesome. With an API in place, clients could be built for various platforms (windows, mac, ios, browser extension, etc.)
Then when server loads goes nuts I can quickly switch (via my router app) to another server I have already configured.

Script managing WireGuard ProtonVPN for Linux using CLI only
I've put together a POSIX shell script allowing you to use ProtonVPN in Linux using only the native wireguard and Linux core utils having the script managing all aspects of the network such as routing and which DNS server to use when the VPN is up or not.
It works very well for me so I brushed it up with more thorough error handling, documentation and examples in case more people have an interest in it.
Basically it allows you to generate any number of protonvpn-wg-configurations you like and put them in your /etc/wireguard folder, the script selects up one…

Allow Killswitch to be enabled with Split Tunnel
Currently, the app will not allow you to use the Split Tunnel feature if you have the Killswitch enabled. Having migrated from Private Internet Access, I was used to having this possibility with their client and would love to see this in Proton VPN as well.
Having some exceptions configured to bypass the VPN should not completely block the killswitch feature and open the risk of IP leaks.
I would be okay with the VPN app completely killing my bypassed connections as well, it wouldn't even have to be gracefully respecting those. That would just be a nice-to-have.

Use Split Tunneling to Improve VPN Performance
Split tunneling allows you to route some of your internet traffic through the VPN while letting other traffic access the internet directly. This can significantly improve performance, especially for activities like streaming or gaming, I had an assignment to research on how can we improve VPNs, so I got this idea from there. When I was working on this idea I hired a research consultancy that helped me in researching the important aspects about this topic.

Proton VPN for Windows - reconnecting
When a Windows 11 PC sleeps/hibernates the VPN client does not reconnect and "spins". You have to fully close out of the VPN app, relaunch and then reconnect.

Change or revert the new look.
Companies seem to always go back and forth with this constantly in these industries with making things look more compact. Usually all this does is make it take more clicks to get to something that the user needs to get to making it more inconvenient to use. Function over form please. When trying to pick a certain or specific connection now it takes three to four clicks going through menus when it used to just be a list.

Linux beta client: Allow server ranges for the text options
Currently, one can set two different text boxes in the beta Linux client: "Auto connect", which accepts country codes, a specific server (such as NL#42) or "FASTEST". And then there's "Pinned tray connections", which accepts country code or specific server, multiple entries, comma-delimited.
While we're waiting for a better GUI, I would like to have the option of picking a specific range of servers for "Auto connect", such as: US#18-25 (for example).
As well as for "Pinned tray connections", choosing a ranged server entry would pick the best option within that range. A typical "Pinned tray connections" would look like…
