2. Feature for Proton VPN (gtk) App

   Proton VPN App creates an icon in the toolbar / app-bar, where hovering mouse over it tells "Proton VPN". That is good for the beginner, but the thing I usually want to know is 1) Where am I connected [CH-#123] or if I am not connected, 2) to tell [Proton VPN not connected]. At the present I have to open the "Show" to see the connection. Even more information could be useful, but I have no ideas for that.

   Secondly I want the "Show" appear just below the "Disconnect" option. "Quit" can well be the last one.

3. Enhance anti-censorship capabilities and update IP addresses promptly to ensure usability in regions with strict censorship.

   Currently, Proton VPN is almost unusable in regions with strict censorship, and it is hoped that measures can be taken to alleviate this problem.

4. Linux - Include client options to GUI

   Currently the linux client have several interested features that could be great to have in the GUI.

   For example be able to connect to fastest secure core server, or random secure core (--random -sc), random p2p, etc.
   It could be an option to click connect, like the other ones, or a param that could be added in the Autoconnect or Pinned tray icons, like the already existing "Fastest" option.

   For example:
   1. SecureCore -> --securecore
   2. Random -> --random
   3. RandomSecureCore -> --random --securecore
   4. P2P -> --p2p
   5. RandomP2P -> --random --p2p

   Only the GUI because it has support for Advanced kill-switch would be great to be able to connect to a random and decongested server. Proton have server in countries that usually are lower than 5% of capacity while others are +60%.

   It would be a good option for people like me that only want to connect to a sever without worrying where it is.
   And like these servers are less used, the IPs are usually less blocked by services or bot scanners.

   Options:
   --country TEXT Connect to fastest server in specified country
   Country code (US, GB, DE) or full name ("United States")
   --city TEXT Connect to fastest server in specified city
   City name (use quotes for multi-word: "New York")
   --p2p Connect to fastest P2P-optimized server
   -sc, --securecore Connect to fastest Secure Core server
   --tor Connect to fastest Tor server
   --random Connect to random available server
   -h, --help Show this message and exit.

5. Mock gps

   A vpn feature known usually as mock GPS.
   It would have different options such as masking your GPS location to match your vpn ip address or to a specific location.

   Such as the browser extension cloaq on desktop or the Mock GPS Location app on the Play Store.
   There is also a simple version included in Surfshark that only uses the matching option.

7. Implement Rolling/Tiered Server Maintenance to Avoid Complete Country-Wide Outages

   During routine maintenance cycles, I've noticed that all servers within a given country are occasionally taken offline simultaneously — occurring roughly every 2–3 months.

   This forces users to reroute through servers in neighboring countries, which often serve different regional content, languages, and geo-restricted services. The result is a noticeably degraded browsing experience that undermines the core value of a VPN.

   Proposed Solution:
   Introduce a rolling or tiered maintenance schedule that keeps a minimum percentage of servers online at all times within each country cluster. For example:

   • Tier 1 (Active): A baseline set of servers remains fully operational during any maintenance window.
   • Tier 2 (Maintenance): A rotating subset undergoes updates, patches, or hardware work.
   • Tier 3 (Standby/Buffer): Reserved servers that can be activated if Tier 1 capacity drops below a threshold.

   This approach is widely used in cloud infrastructure (e.g., rolling deployments, blue-green deployments) and would allow Proton VPN to maintain service continuity without impacting the user's country-specific connection.

   Expected Benefits:

   • Users stay connected to their preferred country's servers throughout maintenance periods.
   • Reduced disruption to region-specific content, language settings, and geo-dependent services.
   • Improved perceived reliability and service quality.

8. Extend NetShield content blocking options

   I wish NetShield had more fine-tuned content blocking options beyond malware and ads/trackers. Mullvad can also block the following:
   - Gambling
   - Adult content
   - Social media

   Please add these options to NetShield so I don't have to trust a third party custom DNS (and risk being fingerprinted for it). Proton might treat this as low priority, but it's important to me. This and DAITA are some of Mullvad's distinctive features, so I'd appreciate if Proton had them too.

10. Dedicated IPs , Rotating IPs , Double VPN Costumized

    Dedicated IPs in major countries like the USA, Europe, Japan — something like NordVPN and Surfshark do, where we purchase dedicated IPs and choose the countries. However, it would be nice to include some shared dedicated IPs in the paid plan, with an additional fee option to have your own Proton IP in a country of your choice — Nord and Surfshark offer this.

    Double VPN like Surfshark does — you choose both countries, the entry and exit points. It's not meant to eliminate or improve Secure Core, but rather for a customized Double VPN experience.

    Rotating IPs — another feature from Surfshark where IPs change but the connection remains the same, without dropping, without changing countries, making tracking even more difficult.

    More secure physical servers — if it's physical, it should be secure. Virtual servers are far away, speed drops and latency explodes. Perhaps RAM-based servers could guarantee more security on physical servers.

11. Proton curated NetShield allowlist for privacy-respecting services

    Instead of implementing per-user domain whitelists across all VPN apps, Proton could maintain a curated allowlist of privacy-respecting domains (like www.startpage.com) that are exempt from NetShield ad blocking.

    This could be either:

    enabled by default, or
    offered as a single opt-in toggle.

    Pros: Simple implementation (DNS-side only), consistent across all platforms, supports privacy-friendly business models.

    Cons: Requires Proton to curate and maintain the list and some users may disagree with inclusion criteria or prefer maximum blocking without exceptions.

13. Proton VPN’s kill-switch isn’t Direct-Boot aware on GrapheneOS

    On GrapheneOS, the updater runs before first unlock (BFU) to grab security patches, but Proton VPN’s kill-switch isn’t Direct-Boot aware. Enabling it brings up the VPN UI BFU, yet no network ever connects, so updates fail until you unlock the device.

    Repro:

    Install Proton VPN on GrapheneOS (e.g. Pixel 6 Pro 2025.05.15)

    Turn on kill-switch

    Reboot and stay at lock screen

    Watch the BFU updater time out for lack of network

    Impact:
    Devices miss critical patches until next unlock, extending exposure to exploits.

    Fix:
    • Mark the VPN service as android:directBootAware="true" in AndroidManifest.xml
    • Move its config/certs into Device-Protected Storage for BFU access

    Split tunneling is extremely useful but could benefit greatly from another level of splitting so that apps could be put into a home country only vpn tunnel, switched to when opening. This would allow some apps that don't work under a vpn to work since geography often seems to be the issue. I realize this could mean a reconnect, but this ensures staying on vpn and not forgetting to re-enable it to the preferred default other country. When it switches, a second notification could effectively remind that a switch occurred (since the standard notification is there forever and so becomes background noise not paid attention to). A reroute notification would cover for the opted in use of this feature. Not sure if the best solution ro so many apps restricting vpn use, but many apps are no longer working under vpn, but many based on geography. 1/2 my daily apps are excluded via split tunneling it seems

    Because in censored networks your connection usually blocked.

    Also, please, move all your VPN to 443! Because it is extremely trivial to block ports other than 53, 853, 443!

16. Linux app for arm64 GUI and CLI

    Hello, like many users, I use a low-power ARM64 machine for P2P downloads via Torrent. The problem is that there isn't a Linux ARM64 application yet, which prevents me from setting up the Port Forwarding as explained in the guides, since I have to use it through WireGuard instead of the official app.Is this release planned? Thanks.

18. Allow connecting via CLI as non-root

    Previously, I could run the CLI as my standard user on Arch without issue, so I added it to my ~/.zprofile, ensuring that I would always be connected to a VPN server. My login flow is to login to the TTY and then start a GUI from there.

    I updated my system on 2026-05-23, and since then, protonvpn fails with "unexpected error." If I open a terminal emulator after I start a GUI session and use the CLI from there, it prompts me for root privileges. I am the sole user of the laptop, but I do have a separate administrator account that I use solely for system maintenance. I should not have to use root credentials every time I log in.

    WARNING the core ideea is people who are ABUSING proton vpn. Please be very very carfull because i am talking about people who abuse

    well then to click on the extension or app and it will register it.

    then, proton will have a records that, Lumo, can have a look around and find who is who without invading the privacy of anyone who is serious.

    once found, said person, even if using proton pass, to recive a warning from Lumo, because again, 100% privacy, on said person's main account.

    Like this anyone who was flagged by mistake can contact proton custom without any privacy issues.

    and anyone who abuses proton will now avoid paying money since their name will be on it to a degree or other.

    as in, a profile is build up. And people with malicious intention want to avoid that at all cost.

    and if they use proton free, there to be different ip from the one for people who pay... as if, as i said, such people want to stay away, they won't use the free proton vpn when others are "better".

    so at least we get rid of them via: website is blocked? we flag it. Lumo checks what users where the ones who recently where on that website, if they are pass or main account, and, even if lumo does not disclouse he email or otherwise, can report findings of abuse. And Proton's CS can then decide if there is enough for a warning, if not even ban, or even police or simple to just "rember" that account to build up a case of, if any further mesurments are even needed.

    WARNING: as i mentioned, i am talking JUST about people who abuse proton VPN

    also, me mentioning Lumo is because of how someone can "monitor" while 100% privacy.

20. Choose Favorite server on Apple TV

    Add just on top of "Recommended" on Apple TV "Favorites" where we would be able to choose our favorite connections for quick access.
