Proton Docs / collaboration suite
(folders and docs similar to GoogleDocs)
Proton mail needs some collaborative word processor and spreadsheet in a drive where people can securely work on it but only the person who owns the files can keep them and no one can download them or copy them.

Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

Work together with Collabora to offer a full Office suite based on LibreOffice with enough storage and collaboration opportunities for Proton members.
This accelerates Proton's efforts for Proton Docs as well. -

OnlyOffice is not permitted on EU government computers because of its ownership by P7-Office, a Russian company.
The UK, Singapore and Latvian companies are shell companies for P7-Office.

Better LibreOffice integration would be brilliant!

This should be a top priority for Proton Drive, along with a Linux app which weirdly still doesn't exist

Look into what Skiff was building before they were acquired. Their concept may be a good idea starter.

Its important. But its not important to reinvent the wheel. Collabora Online (online version of LibreOffice Online) works quite well together with Desktop app + Nextcloud integration. Collabora is also very robust and mature. Proton Docs is in a very rought state, and its only Docs that currently present. It must be better to use something else that works than burn a lot of R&D resources on something made in-house that takes years to get mature enough.

+1. Proton, as great as they are, don't have the bandwidth to develop a comprehensive office alternative. And arguably, they shouldn't, because great OSS solutions like collabora online exist.
This particular set of featurse is the only critical bit preventing me from mobing all my cloud services to a proton unlimited, making alternatives that do support collabora very appealing, even when the companies behind are not as good as proton.

This would be amazing. It would go a long way to making proton drive more competitive, and it would save Proton a lot of work.

The folks at Proton have known that users wanted apps for docs and sheets since at least 2016 and they finally delivered docs in 2024.
How long will we have to wait for sheets? I'm turning 60!!! Time's a wastin'!!!

Libreoffice is robust and the Collabora version has been deployed within Nextcloud for years. Could be a nice partnership with Collabora Productivity.

EPIC: As an user of Proton Drive, I'd like the ability to have a series of online collaboration tools (similar to Google Drive) so that I can create, store, and access documents on the cloud AND migrate off of Google Workspace.
User Story 1: As a Proton Drive user, I'd like the ability to have a cloud-based spreadsheet tool (similar to Google Sheets) so that I can manage spreadsheets online.
User Story 2: As a user of Proton Drive, I would like the ability to be able to store cloud based notes, tasks, or lists (similar to Google Keep, Microsoft OneNote, or Evernote) so I can use one tool to manage my dad-to-day task.

Agreed!
I would finally be able to get out of Google drive completely, if this was possible.

On this take I see more people where they would like a take of proton on spreadsheet, word and more. Where I think that would be great and bring loads of safety and security with it I would love to see when something like that gets added a update to proton drive. Where we can work directly on spreadsheets in the drive and maybe collaborate at the same time with other proton users?

Instead of making Proton Docs, Slides, etc. which take forever to make, just partner with a privacy based office suite like OnlyOffice to make everything easier.

How about OpenOffice?

For Proton Docs, and possibly sheets and slides, it would be a mess if Proton would bring multiple messy apps.
Instead, a lightweight and offline Office-Suit with basic (or Advanced) document editing features can simply suffice with multiple functions requested by most users. -

My only gripe so far with it: It has no formatting what so ever. I would love to see it turn out as a better version of Liber Docs and or Docs. With how Proton does things... ittle defiantly be a lot better.
