Proton Docs / collaboration suite
(folders and docs similar to GoogleDocs)
Proton mail needs some collaborative word processor and spreadsheet in a drive where people can securely work on it but only the person who owns the files can keep them and no one can download them or copy them.
Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

Proton Drive works well as a file repository, but even that can prove cumbersome if you need to view something. We shouldn't have to log into a website to view a file. The desktop apps are obvious delayed, so please just give us a more realistic date when we can finally have this functionality.

not only microsoft formats... open document formats should be prioritised

Current Tresorit user - would love to consider Proton but your functionality is super basic. Essentially useless to manually sync files. - need reliable auto syncing to devices. macOS, iOS etc.

A Proton drive desktop app is a must, syncing files would be amazing and would sway me closer to using proton apps exclusively

The absolute most critical feature must be desktop sync like, OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud, DropBox and just about every other cloud provider supports. I used to use BoxCryptor with OneDrive until BoxCryptor abandoned its customers when it sold out to DropBox and have switched to Proton Drive which is great, but manual download, edit and upload is just such a painful workflow.

I'd also absolutely love to see this feature, with no Linux Drive client you're a bit stuck when sharing files currently.
Say I share a shopping list with a family member, they have a link to that file; if I edit that file there's currently no way (that I've found) to edit the document tied to that link without employing another device, which is a bit of a tedious workflow.

100% agree. The only reason I'm still using Google Docs, despite having an 'Unlimited' Proton plan active, is because I need the Docs feature. Even a simple beta feature with the basic text style and page options would be enough to make the jump from Google to Proton.

Absolutely agree. To me this would be a critical improvement. I already have an 'Unlimited' plan (which I use it mostly for email and VPN), and love the user interface of Proton Drive. It looks much cleaner and intuitive than Google Docs and One Drive. But the only reason I'm not yet using Proton Drive, despite having a lot of GB available there, is because I need the 'Docs' feature. If Proton Drive includes this, either as a built in function or as a separate 'Proton Docs' app, then I could definitely make the jump from Google Drive to Proton Drive. As leion247 said, I don't need it to have thousands of features and options, just with having the basic text options would be enough for the start.

Desktop Sync is an absolute must. When can we expect this to be available?

An integration with Onlyoffice would be awesome. It works quite well online for document, spreasheet and presentation collaborative editing.

Maybe move this request to the Proton Drive feedback area?

In order for Proton services to be useful for me, this ability to create/edit files is very necessary.

I agree. I don't use Proton Drive at all right now because I don't care about syncing files. However, if there was a built-in text editor that would allow me to at least create and edit basic text files it would be very useful. Thanks

When is this feature coming? Desktop Sync. It was on the roadmap for end of 2022 but I've heard nothing. Considering switching back to Microsoft for OneDrive at this rate.
Proton Team - can we PLEASE get an update? You've been silent on it from what I've seen.

I would absolutely love for ProtonDrive to have more features similar to Google Drive. It would be so amazing to have the ability to work on documents live from the drive without having to download them first.

Now that we have a Drive and Calendar alternative, it would be appreciated to have a Proton alternative to Google Docs that allows for the security the company provides. It doesn't have to be as good or have the exact same features, but having a reasonably comparable version would be great for further removing myself and related material from Google services, while maintaining the ability to edit and create from my phone and store on my Proton Drive. Having a similar sharing ability with public links would also be preferred, but understandable if it couldn't be included in an initial version.
