I finally want to get rid of my scattered online services (a selfhosted email, Dropbox, Google calendar, ...) and Proton seemed like the perfect candidate to get everything into one sleek package. The fact that people seem to begging here for basic Linux functionality since 2022 is however quite disappointing.

Cloud storage is not a safe where you lock something away every now and then, but should be a constant mirror of your local work. If I clean up a photo album on my laptop, those pictures should also be deleted online. If a create a music backing track with Linux software, it needs to be available for playing on my phone as soon as I hit save, etc...

All this is working fine on Dropbox. If Proton Drive would implement this however, I'd switch right away. Until then that's simply not possible.

(I'll now go vote at the other end... apparently file syncing for Android is also not yet implemented)

Honestly it's making me want to leave Proton because of there lack of doing anything.

This is a MASSIVE need. Being a college student I use Proton to keep school stuff safe so I can't use Linux for school.

Also you would think that they would want this because so many poeple that use Linux would be intrestred in Proton.

Visionary plan user here. Proton Drive needs a Linux client. It is unacceptable that this doesn't already exist. I am considering downgrading my subscription since I have to pay a separate service to do the job that Proton should be doing.

Yes, there is not only Linux for y o u r back-end, but the same Linux for o u r front-end.
Please do not forget who has done the work! We, the community and all that in our spare time and unfortunately there is no publicity...

Support Linux like a first class citizen, the other OSes have a freaking lot of money... they would be capable themselves...

If "A better internet starts with privacy and freedom" as you state, a proper integration of your tools into a system that effectively represents this philosophy should not only be considered, it should be prioritized.

This is a deal breaker. I would be willing to pay Visionary (if it ever becomes available again) just to have the max storage possible. But I need full Linux support. It's amazing to see how they've overlooked Linux for so long.

I would wager most with serious security concerns are not Windows NPCs. But perhaps the data mining doesn't support that? A "show me the money" issue?

Not sure how many comments I've added to this thread but this is one of the most-requested features on this site and Proton still isn't even "thinking" about it. You have so many Unlimited and paying customers who are asking for this feature but they're currently being ignored.

I use/used MEGA.nz as a step-in since they also offer E2E encryption AND have the MEGASync app which works on all major distros. They even have add-ins for various file managers to display the sync status of individual files and directories. If anything, Proton should look into acquiring MEGA and using their technology that has already been built. Either that or collaborate on the portions of their solution that are relevant and open source.

I started to use rclone bisync with Proton Drive and it seems to be working, but it does take a while and you need to be comfortable with rclone and cron if you want it to sync or work regularly. There are options.. but how much longer do privacy-respecting customers who run linux have to wait for something that's a very standard and base feature of having a cloud drive service.

I need to move one of my family notebooks to Linux due to the lack of Win11 compatibility. I guess more and more people will follow that path throughout 2025. As a Visionary plan subscriber, I was extremely susprised not to find a Linux client download option. You should stop working on everything else until this issue is solved.

Proton's complete and utter failure to prioritize Linux sync for Proton Drive -- or even put it on the roadmap -- feels pretty insulting after so many years. Especially since Drive syncing is such a critical piece of any customer's workflow. And particularly since so many other companies offer a Linux sync solution already.

Being a second-class citizen sucks. It's far past time for Linux users to look at alternatives.

The rclone workaround is unusable for me. Takes way too long and can't run automatically with 2FA enabled. Drive is therefore useless for me so I'm going elsewhere

It's embarrassing that you are working on stupid nonsense like Wallet before giving a go at a linux client for Drive. While it is true that linux desktop users are not as numerous as Windows/MacOS desktop users, they are quite influential and literal evangelists when it comes to spreading knowledge about software.

It does not make Proton look good that they are working on Wallet instead of finishing Drive for Linux which already has a lot of customers, people who have already paid for it and have been for a long time and still don't have what they paid for.
