Linux Client
Proton Drive really needs the ability to sync desktop files automatically. This post focuses on a Linux client for Proton Drive.

It's really time for a Linux client. I am getting myself ready to dump the American OS options in favor of Linux. Get this ready IMO.

Despite Proton stating that it "supports user privacy", there is still no native application for Proton Drive for Linux operating systems.
While there are native apps for the telemetry-friendly Windows and Mac, there is nothing for Linux, and the workarounds -- Rclone etc -- are consistently blocked by Proton.
Is it time to start investing in another privacy-friendly company?
Thanks! -

Proton, what are you doing? Do you really want to push us to use kSuite instead? This is the most important feature, without that your entire cloud is useless. Not giving access to US companies is the whole point, unlock Linux.

It's insane that we still don't have a linux desktop client 4 years later...

I can't believe this hasn't been developed yet. There is a serious need for it. Lots of people are moving away from Windows... And they'll be moving away from Proton if they don't get their act together. I'm seriously considering downgrading or terminating my subscription if this is not implemented soon. There do seem to be already other privacy-focused service providers with much better support for Linux.

I became a Proton user yesterday since I too want to move away from American big tech. From Google but also from Dropbox. Syncing with my Linux laptop is crucial for me. I hope it will land soon!! Once it has, I can start moving my data from Dropbox to Proton.

I recently decided that I wanted to move away from American Big Tech. I am sick and tired of my entire digital existence being utilized, if not weaponized, by big companies trying to profit off of my data. Furthermore, I don't want to be vulnerable to the whims of an administration led by a group with seemingly autocratic ambitions, that have no qualms about threatening their allies to get what they want, and retaliate when they don't.
My first step in that was to buy a Proton subscription, and I have been quite happy with it so far. Now I don't have to rely on my Outlook and Gmail anymore. The next step was to get out of Windows, especially now that Copilot is being pushed on users whether they want it or not. As such I was happy when I saw that Proton VPN has a Linux app. So imagine my disappointment when I found out that there is no Linux App for Drive, when there are options available for the exact platform I'm trying to get away from.
Please, prioritize making Proton Drive compatible with Linux for automatic back-ups and syncing. From what I have seen on this forum, it would make a significant proportion of your customers very happy.

It's becoming urgent now, with so many people/companies leaving the US big tech and orienting on real EU / opensource alternatives. Linux is becoming better by the day and therefore more and more interesting also for day to day business.

This is by far the most annoying thing with Proton apps in general. I could live without a native app for Proton Mail, but not having a seamless integration with my Linux system and Proton Drive really sucks!
I'm on Fedora 43 (Gnome) and would love to get Proton Drive for it. -

I recently started freelance work and while I could get around a lack of cloud storage for personal use, it is no longer an option to put it off. I'm a big fan of Proton but this is unfortunately a huge gap that could cause me to find an alternative.

This is the top voted requested for Proton Drive by far, and the second most voted request for any Proton feature after unlimited disposable email addresses. How is it not received any response?

I, along with many other's right now, have made the switch to Linux. For Personal and Work use.
As many in our startup switch to Linux (Fedora 43 KDE Plasma), we wont be able to justify using Proton for much longer without a proper Sync functionality.
Unfortunately, if we dont get an ETA soon (Q1), or an app in the next quarter, we will have to move to a new provider.

I've been missing a Linux client for Protondrive for years. Proper support would be very welcome.
Lumo is now another reason why a Linux client is important. It would make work much easier.
I have an unlimited subscription to Proton. But I won't pay for Lumo until there is a usable Protondrive client for Linux.
And to be honest, I'm considering canceling my unlimited subscription. As a Linux user, we've been strung along for years.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

With Microsoft going fully automatic on their foot, this could be the perfect time to take advantage of users switching to Linux and ensuring they have a relatively seamless migration with their Proton accounts and services. Proton Drive compatibility for Linux is a must.

While this has been the most requested feature for years, Proton has instead developed an AI assistant and a crypto wallet. I think this fact speaks for itself. I take back what I have earlier said about giving the Proton team 6 months. I will start looking for alternatives today.

Basically I need Proton Drive client for Linux to be implemented ASAP or I will have to leave Proton. Migrating my e-mail will be a pain, but it is soon time. I give the Proton team 6 months. I have already waited waaay longer than I ever thought I would have to. I have been a paying customer for many years now. I switched to Proton for the same reason that I switched to Linux: Privacy.
It is more hassle to make Proton Drive work on Liunx (I have not managed it yet) than to just encrypt all my files locally before putting them in my Dropbox. I do this even though I pay for Proton. Conclusion: Proton Drive is a worse private cloud solution than Dropbox for Linux users. When I tell about this to people, they laugh. I don't.

Privacy first, but not support linux version? Sound contradiction.
Now even 3rd extension like `rclone` can't sync any more. -

Windows market share is dropping rapidly now with ads, Copilot, and other slop alienating users across the Microsoft ecosystem. Linux operating systems are becoming more common, even in the Fortune 500 enterprises. Please add appropriate clients to make Linux a first class citizen alongside Apple and Microsoft.
The Proton web app experience is fantastic, but being able to directly save a file to a location that is locally encrypted and synchronized with the Proton Drive cloud would be ideal. Proton could compete with Dropbox and beat other providers such as Box to this growing market of Windows refugees.
Specifically, a desktop app for Fedora, and Debian (e.g., Ubuntu, Mint, Pop!) would be ideal. I'm sure Arch, and SUSE would be great as well but perhaps less common.
I personally am moving over to Fedora (KDE Plasma) away from Win11 and looking to replace Outlook and OneDrive to completely cancel Microsoft from my daily experience.
