I get that Linux users aren't a priority by sheer number, but if privacy is the entire purpose of Proton, then supporting the most privacy-oriented platform seems to be a foregone conclusion.

If you don't have the manpower (or money to support the manpower) to make this happen directly, then please open the API documentation so that the community can make it happen. There's already halfway decent Drive support in rclone, but that's not a full solution, if only because Photo backups aren't accessible.

I'm not the first nor the last to make this request, but if Proton isn't willing to help us with this feature directly, please help us help ourselves via API documentation.

It is getting ridiculous how Proton treats Linux-based systems (the OS' that unlike Windows, don't make joke out of privacy) as a mere afterthought.

Echoing other comments here, I've switched from Windows to Linux and would like to see better support for Proton desktop apps on Linux. Kind of shocking that Proton doesn't already have full integration with Linux, seeing that Linux is the most privacy-focused desktop OS available.

As more and more users are making the switch from Windows to Linux based systems in the wake of Microsoft's Recall debacle, Proton should be positioned to take early advantage of this. I'm sure I'm not the only one looking to move my data off Microsoft and Google's platforms having fully moved to Linux now.

As a privacy focused company, not supporting Linux is honestly rather bizarre.

I love Proton Mail but have held back on upgrading my subscription as I can't take advantage of Proton Drive. Would prefer not to have another separate sub for secure file storage but looking like I have no choice unfortunately.

I am currently a Proton Unlimited User, but have not moved any of my data/email etc. onto the Proton platform as they do not support Linux. I have been eagerly waiting for them to get their products ready enough for me to switch.

My sub is up in December and I will not be renewing if Proton Drive does not have a Linux client by then.

I have been paying to support the "Underdog" of the cloud services community, but they are pulling a Plex in my opinion and are stretching themselves way too thin introducing new products left and right, without completing the first ones they introduced.

I would rather have a few good feature-rich complete products, then a bunch of incomplete ones.

I fear, I will be going full self-hosting for everything within the next year, as Proton will not be up to the task.

Please get us a Linux version. I'm using a third party now S3Drive to access. Not cool at all.

I just need to be able to sync one folder, that's it. Instead of using proton drive, I had to setup a Nextcloud server for file syncing (works for android too).

Drive was my main reason for paying for mail plus, without a client, I'm probably going to go back to the free tier.

There's currently no method to securely access Proton Drive as a filesystem on Linux.

I request an application that can be used to mount a drive to the filesystem with on-the-fly encryption/decryption.

The application should ensure some level of security, such as not storing the account password on the machine, and requiring 2fa at mount time.

This is because the current mechanism people are using, rclone, is not secure: it is almost trivial for malware to copy the rclone configuration file to obtain the user's Proton password. (It is encrypted using a symmetric encryption, with a static key readily available from the project's source code.)

another long time proton unlimited here. i recently boycotted everything evil i had enough of; Microsoft, Apple, Google, Steam and more. i was really happy to see i could have a proton vpn app in linux because if i couldnt i would have had to use the firefox app and my invizbox to get any use of their vpn service, which isn't exactly great.. i use drive ALOT, it's my second most important proton app after mail ofc, and i really think the proton team should stand by their fight for privacy and therefore also prioritize linux users over any of the other evil corps. heck, proton should make their own linux distro to really flip off all their competition :\ or start a co-op with one of the big brands to share some of the workload. all proton users are security oriented, that's why we don't migrate to say nordvpn who offers faster solutions. why this is not prioritized is baffeling when they have made apps for all the other services they offer? even calendar..

is the reason it's not prioritized the complexity of the code or is it just because they don't see the value, that's what i'm left wondering here

EDIT: i'll be trying to run the windows app through wine or the android app through anbox and see if that works for now. if it works i guess i'll be supporting evil corp for a little while longer

In an Dec 2023 interview on The Linux Experiment with Andy Yen (the CEO of Proton) he mentioned that it will take at least a year or two until we get Proton Drive in any shape or form on Linux sadly. Support for most distros will take even longer.

One more day and we don't even have news if they're planning this idea.

So many of the commenters have said this is a deal-breaker for them. People will pay for the ability to actually USE drive on Linux!! Conversely, they are also NOT willing to pay for Proton subscriptions if drive is useless for linux users! Totally critical, but from Proton's comments on LinkedIn this isn't even on their radar for the near future. Completely unbelievable, they're leaving money on the table and ignoring even the most barebones, cheap solutions for protondrive users on linux.

With the upcoming Windows/Mac OS AI spyware tools more and more people are switching to linux. Proton team, you definitely need to invest more on pushing ALL of your apps to Linux.

I need also a CLI version for linux to sync it to a backup server.
