Exclude folders/files
Thank you for the desktop application, it was necessary and I am very satisfied, excellent job. On the other hand, it would be very useful to have the ability to exclude files/folders, either by selecting them or using a regular expression. For example, excluding folders like 'node_modules'.

It's been almost a year since this enquiry was posted, and Proton has ignored this feature ever since. Despite this, there are almost 500 users who want this to happen. It's the same old story. Proton is just like every other service now: you can request a feature, and they can either ignore your wishes or make one every year. Then they put on a big show, as if they're doing something special to meet their customers' needs.

Definitely need this as an option. Not all files/folders I need to sync to desktop.

Hello, this feature would be extremely usefull!
And both: exclude folders, and exclude files (with wildcards).
For instance,
- in my folder "My documents", I have folders created by apps that I don't want to save
- I also have source code folders which contains generated files which don't need to be saved. -

This is a MUST HAVE. ALL of my sync error are from locked files in a folder I need to exclude!

This missing is what is preventing me from fully migrating to Proton. I am using MEGASync, and they have an excellent implementation where you use a Regular Expression. You can specify a full path, partial path, folder/file name, part of folder/file name, etc. You, of course, have to understand how to make expressions. I don't like MEGA and want to switch away from it, but can't until this feature is implemented.

Critical feature! Otherwise I can't store all my data in my proton drive. It would kill my local hard drive!

Critical feature to me! I have a few programs that create subfolders in a folder I want to sync, but I hve no need to sync these subfolders...
Moreover, it would be nice if the "hidden" folders are NOT synced. -

Can't believe this isn't even a thing, and has this little votes compared to other features!

I agree with this. I work with design and 3d software and they have "lock files" . For example, Adobe InDesign has .IDLK files which aren't necessary to be synced.

the Proton Drive App even stops syncing when a file is found that is unknown. Also the fact that a file is not automatically skipped when in use by another program is strange. with this the ProtonDrive is really unuseable.

100% must have

I was really shocked when I realized that the Mac desktop app doesn't have this feature. Every other cloud service has it.

This is an extremely important feature to me as well. Being able to exclude certain subfolders is very useful. For example, my documents folder on my PC I have set to sync, but one of the games I play dumps all chat logs to a folder in the documents folder. This is hundreds of small text documents that back up the sync queue, and I really don't need backed up.

Very urgent feature; ProtonDrive is unusable for me because of it. Especially with nodejs

This feature is sorely needed. For example, in my Documents-folder, there are about 2,5 GB worth of cache-files for Battlefield 2042. I really don't need that taking up space in the cloud-storage.

I have a similar use-case. I develop Flutter apps and while I use git, I use folder sync to back up in-progress work. I don't want to sync builds, though, as they're very large, but unnecessary to back up.

I agree with this suggestion. I would even ask if it were possible to add support of ignore rule files like .gitignore and others to avoid syncing useless and cached data.

Thanks that there is now a Windows app!
This finally makes Drive usable under Windows!Good idea, I would like to have that.
And also a good idea to add a function to ignore "My Files" and the associated "offline capability".Without ignoring folders, Drive syncs itself!
I really don't need the offline search function. For me, it would be perfect as a pure "sync folders-2-cloud" app.
That way I would have a real archive outside my computer for things I want to keep but only need occasionally, and a backup app.someone else already had this idea:

In the desktop application, I can only select "My Documents" for backup rather than subfolders. I don't need all folders to back up and would like to be able to select the ones I want to include in the Proton Drive sync.
