Sync existing macOS folders
I miss the option to sync a folder that is not the default Proton Drive location in macOS. I think this is available in the Windows app.
Right now if I want to sync files with Proton Drive I need to copy them to the Proton Drive location in Finder.

Two years later, this feature is still not available...

Just installed the macOS native application, only to find out that I can't sync custom folders (computers tab on the web app). I already use this feature on Windows, so I assumed this would also work on macOS, but it's not. This is really bad!

Any update on when this is coming? A serious miss for Mac users (like me)!

Hi, you can use Terminal to have a folder that “syncs” to one of your other folders. You can create this folder inside the Proton Drive location.
This is coming in the new Proton Drive for macOS app. -

Wow this is unbelievable bad. Not just terrible software, but worse they give you the impression on their website that this is how it works. I could swear I read that someone on marketing sites. Feels scummy and dishonest.

When I booked the subscription, I assumed that I would be able to sync my user folder. Finally a clean backup in Switzerland.
If I've understood correctly, it only seems to work on Windows. Very disappointing!
And... November 2023 planned: Will that still be a thing? -

This will be pretty much be the only way to guarantee a backup of you local files to other destinations than Proton Drive.

This says 'Planned . NOV 30, 2023' which was a year and a half ago. Wish it could get some priority because Proton Drive is a no-go without this feature.

Hello,
Just joined the Proton community. System folders sync is a game changer and would definitly trigger my whole migration to Proton. -

This is long overdue. Sync on demand from Proton Drive to Mac is a little janky. Even clicking download now which is supposed to keep files downloaded often fails. We really need Mac to Proton Drive sync for a solid back up option and the ability to select destinations.

I'd love to hear an update when (if?) this feature will become available for MacOS. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Yes, I would use ProtonDrive more extensively if I could sync folder from my MacBook with ProtonDrive.

I really need this very basic feature so badly. For me it's blocker to go Unlimited. So far I am staying with Mega

Implementing this feature means that the value of an Unlimited plan is equal to the savings of cancelling Dropbox, etc.
Like many Mac users, I buy a lower spec Mac, because the cost of a larger internal SSD is so great.
For this reason, I use an external SSD as the location of my Dropbox folder.Since Proton Drive keeps all its files on the internal drive, I can't keep many files in there. This makes my 500GB wasted.
If I could create a folder on the external drive and then ask Proton Drive to keep it synced, I could drop Dropbox, saving me more than the cost of Proton Unlimited.
In fact, if you add the cost of Dropbox and the cost of a VPN, Unlimited becomes a no-brainer.

Could you please speed things up? I would cancel my Backblaze plan if I could sync selected folders like in Tresorit

I urgently need this feature which is already available in the Windows version.
Do you have any plans to update the Mac Version in order to be able to sync the file in a more meaningful way? -

To be able to choose to sync folders you choose yourself would be a game-changer. At the moment I need to subscribe to Tresorit who do this excellently, but I would prefer only to have my Proton subscription. Not this double.

Not being able to choose where on your Mac the ProtonDrive root folder (either new or existing) resides is a show-stopper for me. In my case, I have a large number of files on an external drive that I'd like to keep safe on ProtonDrive, but ProtonDrive won't let me specify the existing root folder of these files, rather it wants to create a root folder on my Mac's internal SSD where there isn't the space for these files.
Once this feature is added I can ditch DropBox.
