I do think that this is one of the most important features that Proton Drive/Photos does not currently implement.

However, I want to note that I believe that there should be 2 sides for implementation - 1 is in the app/program, using local (or locally-cached) information about the photographs - 2 is using server-side AI from within the app/program and/or website, where more advanced options should be available.

For example, looking for similar photographs - as I usually take at least 3 at a time - and suggesting which one(s) to delete because they are blurry and/or don't have very good contrast, etc., and suggesting which one(s) would be best to keep, etc.

This would ensure that not only would actual duplicates be deleted, but also give users the chance to remove excess slightly different photographs - which is honestly what the vast majority of my photographs are.

I'd also like to suggest the same for videos, music, and even other files, but that may be much more difficult to implement.

As an aside, if a photograph is stored in Proton Drive Photos *and* in Proton Drive elsewhere, the user should be given the option to remove it from one place or the other as well.

I've just uploaded many fotos and almost 90% are duplicated

Now I'm having fun finding them and trying to delete them manually (one by one) from proton drive using the web interface

A nightmare.

Absolute must-have. it's a nightmare to handle otherwise, since we can't just "see" them as a regular folder!

Priority feature for me

I think it would already help a lot if deletes (and updates?) from Apple Photos are synchronized to Proton. Then people using iOS can use the deduplication feature of Apple Photos.

This. Definitely one of the most annoying issues with photos in Proton Drive. Even a button to delete photo in preview mode would help a little bit.

Does Proton only read all these messages? I don't feel like it. At a time when many of us prefer to play the European card against the GAFAM... it would be time for Proton or a European competitor to take matters seriously into their own hands. Otherwise, many of us will desert these services... especially since they are expensive...

Remove duplicate photos + documents is VERY important.

not only photos, but duplicate files should be detected/presented, and allow you to choose to delete or not

there should be a process while uploading so the fotos wont be stored in proton fotos if there is already a picture/video stored.

I suppose the checks would need to be carried out client side, since Proton does not have access to uploaded data.

I think this is a critical feature missing on all cloud services. Once the problem happens it is a nightmare to fix.

If you're (Proton Team) interested, I have a java program that can do this on my machine it is pretty light weight and might be able to work for this feature. It was published open on git forever ago but has since been upgraded and made proprietary. The old version I have isn't though ;)

Yes, especially with upload being so buggy .. it's easy to get many duplicates and very annoying to go through deleting manually
