Proton Docs Improvements
The ability to have a non-pageless design, a ruler, line spacing so it can be used for academic papers (think double space, 1.15, 1.5, etc...), ability to open PDFs in Proton Docs, word count, and the paint format feature. Also, please add the ability for the mobile versions of Proton Drive to edit Proton Docs in the app or a separate Proton Doc app. I love Proton Docs though it's amazing and the UI is beautiful.

The pageless design Proton Docs currently has is *painful*! Give me clear page borders, page counts, etc. PLEASE!!! I want to use this for school/work, but I don’t even know how many pages I need to print!
I spend Hours of extra time on my writing in Google Docs getting the formatting perfect with page breaks and headers and spacing, but I can’t do that in Proton Docs (yet).

Also PLEASE work on a spell check feature with some configuration options. Relying on the browser spellcheck is killing me. I really want to use Proton Docs as my permanent word processor, but there are things I simply cant do with it as is.

It should be fairly simple to at least import the LibreOffice features

totally agree. I have moved much of my google docs into Proton but the lack of edition features makes it really painful. No table, no paragraph formatting... the gap with google doc and Word is really huge

I agree with the original post and many others in the comments- I need a private alternative to Word to write my academic papers. Not only that, I would like to convert all of my current word documents to Proton and never use Word again! But the features are far too scant currently- I can't even indent paragraphs. I'm excited for the feature future of Proton, please let us know how we can assist in the process!

It would be nice to see as many improvements to the docs ecosystem as possible, including deeper editing, so yes please

Make proton docs its own app and extend the feature set of the editor. Proton docs is one of my favorite editors but I can use it only for docs requiring minimal formatting. Features like double columns, citations, footnotes, headers and footers, table of contents and export capability would be a great start.

Please, include the suggestions others have written. I was about to start a document that was not working with a different word editor and was so disappointed to find that I can't even single-space a document.

Collapsible headers are a must have

This! This, so much. I really need an alternative to Google Docs or Word that I can actually use for academic writing. The most basic formation is missing, and I can't even make citations.

So important to have at least what makes Word UI easy: it looks like a paper page and not a white background only.

Agree with other comments, plus the ability to use a "navigator" based on headings to quickly jump to different locations in the document (scrolling is just not feasible for lengthy documents). I also noticed that the headings feature acts a bit quirky at times especially when pasting text from another source - I have to enter blank lines, create the heading, then delete the extra lines, just so that my whole paragraph doesn't become a heading!
That said, I do love the design overall, especially the continuous scroll look and feel. (just need dark mode for docs please - already upvoted that on a different post ;-)

All of the missing basic features are what's keeping me from being able to recommend proton drive over google to friends, it's just not usable for the majority of document work right now.

Like many people have already said here, to see a possibility to design even basic page layouts (A4, custom margins) and line spacing would be really great as I would love to write some papers with ProtonDocs. A footnote function would also be really cool even if not crucial at the moment imo.

I would also love to see a dictate option.

Get rid of that ".protondoc" format or at least let us bulk download our .protondoc files as other formats. The ridiculous native format can only be used on the Proton Drive web app while connected to the internet - and also incapable of backing up onto a computer. Any documents you create in Proton Drive are trapped there. I discovered this last month after months of writing in Proton Drive, so I ended up needing to download everything to my computer - except there was no "bulk download as [different format]" option. So I had to go into over 70 files and individually export each as a different format. It took me hours! I was incredibly angry. Don't create documents in Proton Drive unless you don't care about offline access or being able to back them up.

Please can you make Proton Documents a Desktop App so that I can replace Notepad. I love Notepad but it does not sync between PC's. I would love to have stuff open on my notpad at work and then go home and have the same stuff there and it can sync via the Proton Cloud Drive. Also if the current web Documents page could use tabs for different 'pages' in a notebook that would be great!

Mobile version is critical.I would also like to see footnotes added, and ability to write in headers and footers.
