1. Easy-to-share links for shared folders and files (URL shortener)

   It would be great to have an optional feature that generates short, easy-to-share links for shared folders and files. For example: pm.me/share/<share_id>. This would make sharing simpler across emails, chats, and mobile devices, while still keeping the full URL available for those who prefer it.

2. Improve preview speed of document

   I find that Proton Drive is the best in the market in my preference. But I'm using it to deliver project to my client. The slow speed to preview, especially video and photos, makes it almost impossible to make my client happy.

   Please do something, we need Proton.

3. File history should show previous file names after renaming

   When I open file history, I can’t see previous file names.

   For example: yesterday a file was named “Document X”. Today I accidentally renamed it to “Document Y”. In file history, this rename is not reflected at all — I only see the current name.

   This is a serious problem. I accidentally mixed up documents, edited one, then renamed it. Now I can’t tell which part of a case this file originally belonged to, because the old name is completely lost in history.

   Please include previous file names in file history. Rename events are just as important as content changes, especially when working with many similar documents.

5. File management paradigm change

   Hum... I can't edit nor delete my first post about that, so I try republishing it... 🤔

   ♻️ File management paradigm change
   This is a repost (deleted my former suggestion) as suggested by another user, to make it more clear, thank you. ❤️
   I'm a curious, sometimes geek with nerd outbursts, user exploring and using newest technologies since 40 years.

   Unfortunately, I still see very old concepts and ideas still being implemented today by default, not because they're good, but because we're suffering from operational blindness.

   🌏 Context
   Managing files for users has not changed since 40 years: You work on a file and at some point you need to save it somewhere. You can chose drive C, D, ... then folder and subfolder A, B, C or library Documents, Music, Pictures, Photos, Videos and, oh gosh, this file should go into folder G and at the same time into the Documents library... Aaawww... 😵‍💫

   And there begins of all our data mess.

   💡 Idea
   Users shouldn't be bothered anymore to have to think of where they store their data (once of course they consciously selected a trustworthy service provider like Proton 😜), only how they can find them again. This would be consistent with ProtonMail's labels/views philosophy. 👍🏼

   They should only be offered the possibility to tag/label their files (manually, AI-automatically?) in order to find them easily later with views (flexible, not hard coded like a distinct Photo library for instance 😉).

   ✅ Reflection points
   I'd like ProtonDrive to consider:

   • merging all types of documents (office, audio, video, etc) into a single environment (as opposed to the Documents/Photos distinction)
   • allowing the user to chose to expose these documents to the OS (for instance I can listen to music with my favorite 3rd party application instead of putting lots of effort for additional ProtonXXX apps)
   • providing labels/tags management (add, remove, batch rename)
   • integrate these labels/tags within the files metadata without changing their modification date (as opposed to libraries systems strongly linked to products and service providers)
   • providing views management (add, remove, rename) based on the aforementioned labels/tags/keywords
   • providing a functionality to generate a folder structure based on views for portability (today I'm happy with Proton, tomorrow maybe not anymore, and I wouldn't want a migration nightmare with the risk of loosing years of organization)

   Thank you for considering shaping a futuristic UX with an open and portable file system management post-GAFAM and service provider independent! 😍

7. Add support for exFAT filesystem

   Proton Drive appears to only support NTFS, APFS. Incredibly frustrating to learn that the drive I'd like to use for backups isn't compatible with the service I've paid for due to the filesystem not being supported; exFAT is a fairly common cross-platform filesystem for external drives and is super useful for those going between operating systems and devices.

8. View-only link access (prevent download)

   Hello,

   A drive link version with view-only access is an essential and attainable feature. This is paramount for one-time actions, such as ID verification, where a file must be marked 'verified' by the recipient, but need not be saved.

   Yes, the file may be captured as a screenshot, and processed thereafter, but this effort and lower resolution will discourage those who may absentmindedly download the file to keep 'a copy on hand', with no thought to its security.

9. Add fast scroll bar (jump from month to month) to albums, like in all photos

   The new scrollbar allowing you to jump from year to year and month to month in the all photos list is really nice. I wish the albums had it, right now I have to create an album per year to make large albums workable.

   I've tried both iOS and the web app and didn't see this in either place, although the announcement of the fast scroll bar seemed to indicate it should be there.

10. multiple album

    I found suggestion to add subfolder or to move photo from an album to another, but I couldn't find a suggestion to support multiple album assignement to a single photo. Album should behave like labels, more than like folders, in my opinion.

11. Activities should never clear and be openable

    In the Proton Drive app, the activity section only shows files that were just uploaded and will then clear the history. You also can't click the files to quick open them up. I think Activity should be more like a "recents" tab that shows most recent edited files for quick access where you can just click to open them.

13. Bug - Date Selection in Proton Sheets via Calendar Selection broken

    There is a Bug with Proton Sheets (Non-US based location) where when you double-click a date cell and attempt to change it via the drop down calendar selection box, it will mix up the day and month selection and give you the wrong date (I imagine it is mixing up day/month in the order due to a mixup between US and European date formats, juggling mm/dd/yyyy vs dd/mm/yyyy respectively).

    Example:

    I begin with a "Long Date" date format in my cell and have:

    Thursday, January 1 2026

    I then double click to bring up the calendar drop down and select the 6th of January. This updates the cell to be:

    Monday, June 1 2026

    The logic is taking the input of 6/1/2026 (Non-US format) from my calendar selection and translating it into the US format, giving me June 1st, not January 6th.

    Further when I select a date above the 12th (out of bounds month in the US format) it breaks the logic and it gives me a slash/separated non-date result.

    So from my new date of Monday, June 1 2026, I select June 18th from the calendar drop down and get:

    18/6/2026

    This result appears on the left-hand side of the cell, no longer indicated to be a date, it appears to be plain text. Double clicking does not bring up the date calendar. As such it appears to have broken the logic and ceased to be a date.

14. Make indent+outdent buttons visible by default on mobile

    As a mobile Proton Drive user taking notes on a book, a podcast, or a lecture, I want to indent and dedent with a single button press so that I can efficiently take hierarchical notes. Proton Drive and Google Docs both have indent/dedent functionality. Google docs shows indent+dedent buttons by default on mobile. Proton Drive hides them in a menu on mobile.

15. Enable 'rclone' to give you access to the Proton Drive as part of the Mac file system, or produce a Terminal app yourselves.

    I've used the command-line program 'rclone' to show my Proton Drive as part of my Mac file system, so I can backup files from a Terminal. It's dead slow, but it worked. Then, two days ago, I ran
    rclone mount proton: ~/ProtonDrive \
    --vfs-cache-mode writes \
    --tpslimit 0.3 \
    --transfers 1 \
    --checkers 1 \
    --low-level-retries 1 \
    --timeout 10s \
    --daemon --protondrive-replace-existing-draft=true
    and it said
    "CRITICAL: Failed to create file system for "proton:": couldn't initialize a new proton drive instance: 422 POST https://mail.proton.me/api/auth/v4: We are detecting potentially abusive traffic coming from your network and have temporarily blocked logins. If you believe this is in error, please contact us here: https://proton.me/support/appeal-abuse (Code=2028, Status=422)"
    I went to that URL and filled in the form. No response, and it still doesn't work, 48 hours later. There is no abusive traffic on my network. I'm using Proton VPN.

16. Add more right-click (context menu) functionality please!

    Dropbox has a robust Right-click feature set in Windows Explorer. Proton needs the following:

    • Purple P icon in every context-menu item (for quickly finding the set of commands)
    • Copy Proton Drive link
    • Sharing options of different sorts
    • View on Proton Drive Website
    • Make online-only
    • Make available offline

    When you download/upload a file with the web client, it would be very nice if you could see the download/upload speed per second and an ETA (left: 5min12s - finishes at 13:46).

19. Add Spreadsheet‑Style Font Options to the Text Document Editor

    Proposal:
    When creating or editing a text document in Proton Drive, users currently have a limited set of typefaces compared with the richer font selection available in the new spreadsheet editor. To provide a more consistent and flexible writing experience across the suite, we propose extending the text‑document editor to include all the fonts that are now supported in the spreadsheet module (e.g., Calibri, Cambria, Arial Unicode, etc.).

    Benefits:

    Unified Design Language – Users can maintain visual consistency when embedding tables, charts, or excerpts copied from spreadsheets into documents.
    Improved Productivity – Reduces the need to switch between applications or manually adjust formatting after pasting spreadsheet content.
    Enhanced Creativity – Offers a broader typographic palette for reports, proposals, and other professional documents, aligning the text editor with the modern look of the spreadsheet tool.
    

    Implementation Considerations:

    Sync the font library between the two editors, ensuring any future font additions appear automatically in both places.
    Preserve existing document compatibility; default to the current font set if a newly added font isn’t supported on older clients.
    Update the UI to display the expanded font dropdown without clutter, perhaps grouping “Spreadsheet Fonts” under a dedicated sub‑section.
    

    Conclusion:
    Integrating the spreadsheet font collection into the text document editor will streamline workflows, enhance aesthetic control, and reinforce Proton Drive’s reputation as a cohesive, privacy‑focused productivity platform.

20. Fix the Photos Sort Order Bug

    (NB Photos in browser: android app seems to sort properly.)

    I have many photos, mainly jpegs, that pre-date the digital revolution. I have scanned/re-photographed these old photos either from negative or print and have fixed up the "date taken" to correspond with when the original photo was taken. For people with full family collections this is probably not unusual.

    I am trying my best to migrate my photo library to Proton, but the its the little things that are annoying: the main photos sort by reverse date taken, UNTIL you get to about 1970 (I have tested this) - older photos then start appearing at the top - presumably by date created/modified?

    Can you please fix this bug?

    It must be a bug (or weird "expected" behavior) - a date is a date if you are using it for sort you should honor it no matter what.

    Please don't respond to this with some album functionality - it's not the same.

    PS: Annoyingly, Google Photos handles this properly - but then they can mine my data.
