   Currently, Proton markets Lumo as using "open-source language models" without disclosing which specific base models or model families power the service. This creates a transparency gap between your stated values and your actual disclosure practices.

   Enterprise Buyers: What license governs derivative use of outputs? Are there compliance implications?
   Technical Users: Is this fine-tuned Llama vs. Mistral vs. Gemma? These have vastly different capabilities.
   Privacy Advocates: Does the model's original training data introduce indirect data exposure risks?
   Community Contributors: How can developers build extensions or integrations without knowing the foundation?

   Being "open about being open-source" and being actually specific are two different things. The latter builds verifiable trust; the former relies on blind faith.

   They don't just claim security—they make it auditable.

   They don't just claim privacy—they document proof points.

   Proton's Opportunity:
   You could match this standard with a simple disclosure like:
   "Lumo's core capabilities derive from fine-tuned versions of [Model Family A] and [Model Family B], with proprietary privacy-enhancing modifications."

   This doesn't reveal trade secrets or compromise security—it just satisfies legitimate user expectations aligned with your transparency brand promise.

   SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS

   1. Publish a blog post listing base model names (Low effort, High trust impact)
   2. Add a model card to Lumo documentation (Low effort, High trust impact)
   3. Publish fine-tuning methodology overview (Medium effort, High trust impact)
   4. Include model lineage in security model docs (Medium effort, High trust impact)
   5. Release evaluation benchmarks for comparison (Medium effort, Very High trust impact)

   Even starting with just naming the base model families would address 80% of the transparency gap while preserving operational flexibility.

   ADDRESSING POTENTIAL CONCERNS

   Concern: Competitors will copy our fine-tuning
   Rebuttal: Naming base models doesn't reveal fine-tuning parameters or training data

   Concern: We'll lock ourselves into specific versions
   Rebuttal: You can disclose "Llama 3.2 family" or "Mistral Large class" without binding to exact versions

   Concern: Security through obscurity
   Rebuttal: Security-by-design is more trustworthy than security-by-secret. Auditable systems build trust.

   Concern: Marketing differentiation

   None of these justify zero disclosure about base models when transparency is a core marketing pillar.

   BOTTOM LINE REQUEST

   If Proton truly believes in transparency as a foundational value (not just a marketing tagline), please consider:

   1. Disclosing base model families used in Lumo
   2. Including licensing information for those base models
   3. Publishing a high-level architecture diagram showing how models integrate with encryption
   4. Adding transparency reports for model updates and incidents

   This would align Lumo's disclosure standards with:
   - Your own encryption/security documentation (which is excellent)
   - Peer privacy companies like Mullvad and Quad9
   - User expectations for a "transparent privacy-first AI"

2. Embedded images and preview-style links in responses

   It would be great if when, comparing different products, for example, Lumo could embed images and links in-line in the response rather than trying to dig through the Sources section at the very bottom of the message.

3. Lumo payment separate from my other products

   Currently, to sign up for Lumo+, you must add it to your current subscription, with the same time period, so if you have a 1-year subscription, you have to pay for 1 year of Lumo, if you have a 2-year subscription, you have to pay for 2 years of Lumo up front.

   The other option is to lose all the discounts on your main Proton account in order to activate Lumo+ for the new term.

   For example, if you have a 2-year Duo subscription (€11.99 per month) and you only want 1 month of Lumo for both users, you have to switch to the monthly price, which increases the price to €45.97. This is more expensive than Visionary!

   Lumo needs to have a separate billing option. Or fix the prices, because I will never subscribe this way. And I want to support it.

4. Color coding in calendar

   I am a proton drive subscriber at the 200 GB tier -- this fits my needs as a regular email user well. I haven't been a digital calendar user in the past, but I need to start using one, and have been comparing different apps. I really like the format of the Proton Calendar, and I want my calendar app to be encrypted for privacy reasons... but I am so frustrated that I have to upgrade for color coding in the calendar. This is a really basic feature and I'm not going to upgrade to use, and to get around it I have to use two different calendars so that color coding shows up. I think that color coding should be considered a basic feature that should be available to any paid subscribers. Thank you!

   wäre es möglich die Farbfunktion von Kalenereinträgen kostenlos zur Verfügung zu stellen, bitte? Es hört sich etwas absurd an, wenn ich mit Leuten über Alternativen zu Google Produkten (u.a. Kalender) rede und ich dann erklären muss, dass man für das Einfärben von Kalendereinträgen 5€ im Monat zahlen muss. Im google Kalender geht das einfach und gratis. Es ist somit halt echt schwer mit dem begrenzten Funktionsumfang von Proton Kalender Leute zum Umsteigen zu bewegen...
   Deshalb meine Bitte: Stellt die Farb-Funktion von Kalendereinträgen bitte gratis zur Verfügung, vielen Dank.

7. Make chats downloadable for personal archiving

   Why are Lumo chats not downloadable? This is most cumbersome in 2026. While chats are ostensibly saved with a Lumo account, they are subjected to being abridged (for "lengthy" chats) and totally unavailable without internet. So what is the deal? Is it a Proton encryption thing or have you just not gotten around to it or what?

8. Buttons to quickly jump to responses

   It gets annoying to have to manually scroll up or down through Lumo's responses when re-reading conversation history and it would be nice to have up/down buttons on the sides to jump to the top of a previous response or the top of the next one.

9. Real Life Meca Lumo

   I found out how may of the small robots, with raspberry (<- mini pc) and such exist.

   It supports many of the other ais. And i can't help but want a cat like this:)))

   After all... can you Imagen if, despite having an ai, as a mini robot, seeing and talking and more with you, it's still 100% privacy? (i am not taking in account crimes and similar as per limitation of what 100% privacy means).

   For Proton: i don't know how they work but if the little robot can be compatible with Lumo, then we can take it from there, like maybe directly connected to our pc or something

   (Also for proton: ensure you do add policies against the use of such mini Lumos since i am sure people are already doing ai robot vs ai robots or some other vs stuff)

10. Use mouse scrollwheel to change month/day/week in the calendar

    I miss the ability that Google Calendar has in month view, to use the mouse scroll wheel to quickly move between months. It would be great if this feature, or something similar, was implemented in Proton Calendar.

    Along the same lines, a lot of modern mice have a tiltable scrollwheel, and that tilt can be used for horizontal scrolling, so why not make that move to the next day/week/month?

11. make standalone app build of Lumo, currently not true privacy

    would be great to offer a standalone app version of Lumo, like the Proton Mail app or Proton VPN

    Right now, it's the only reason I wouldn't use Lumo. Since it runs only as a web app ALL keystrokes are able to be logged in browsers like Chrome, Brave, Firefox, Safari etc. what does privacy mean? If the browser you have to use to run Lumo, literally logs all keystrokes?

    A full app could offer so much better customization, or some local model possibilities and integrations like from another story. Right now, Lumo seems decent but I wouldn't use it when it's hosted in a browser still. Totally defeats having it Privacy as Default

    Sometimes during a long session, you want to get back to particular answers that you need to keep on working right now the only way to do this is to either scroll through the whole session manually or copy paste, the answer to a new document which is somewhat cumbersome

13. Please list reference links for various parts of the answer

    It would be great if the Lumo AI would include web links with all answers referencing where answers came from and/or where further direct research could be carried out. Perplexity offers this functionality and I really like it because it allows you to put a little more trust in the quality of the answers.

14. Responsive chat width when sidebars are collapsed

    When I collapse the left sidebar and the files panel, the chat area stays narrow.
    Since the chat content isn't responsive, the conversation remains constrained to a
    fixed (narrow) width, wasting the freed screen space.

    This makes it harder to work with:
    - 📊 Charts and tables generated in conversations
    - 📝 Code blocks / longer lines of text
    - 🖼️ Wide images and generated content

    💡 Proposed Solution
    Make the chat container responsive to available width, so when panels
    are collapsed, the conversation stretches to use the reclaimed space.

    Options to consider:
    1. Chat width dynamically fills the viewport minus open sidebars.
    2. A toggle (e.g. "Wide mode" / "Compact mode") to force full-width reading.
    3. A max-width cap for readability, adjustable in Settings.

    ✅ Expected Benefit
    - Better readability for wide content (charts, tables, long lines of code)
    - More efficient use of screen real estate on wide monitors
    - More consistent experience when toggling sidebar visibility

15. Desktop app and Lumo feedback connection to Proton Devs and Support

    First, Lumo pointed out that maybe having a desktop app, just like all the other apps that Proton offers, is beneficial for our needs, and maybe for others.

    Second, It would be nice if Lumo can send Dev Team feedback messages and get support for people. The latter especially helpful with non-technical people trying to explain a technical issue.

    Lumo needs a proper app. Every other Proton app is designed to integrate into their respective systems, but Proton Lumo is just a web app, and it works just as well as any web app, which means not as well as it should. Lumo needs more love in this department, a proper mobile app.

18. Lumo Diary: Reflective Daily Journaling with Photos & Conversation History

    I'd like to propose a built-in Diary Mode for Lumo – a private, encrypted daily journal that grows naturally out of normal conversation.

    The Concept: Instead of filling out a journaling form, the user simply talks to Lumo during the day about what they did, thought, or experienced, and can attach photos. When the day ends (or the next day is opened), Lumo compiles the conversation and images into a structured diary entry.

    Key features:

    • Conversation-to-entry with timestamps: The day's chats become the raw material. Each new day gets a "page" in the diary. Each conversation segment is automatically marked with the time it took place (or the user can adjust it), so the entry reflects the natural flow of the day – morning thoughts, midday moments, evening reflections. An expandable view lets users reopen and read the original conversations behind each entry – exactly as they happened.

    • Optional context: The user decides whether to add the day's weather (automatically fetched) or other context to the entry. Nothing is collected automatically – full user control, in line with Proton's privacy philosophy.

    • Privacy by default: Entries are stored with zero-access encryption, readable by no one except the user (consistent with how Lumo handles chat data).

    • Search across the diary: Entries can be found later by date, keywords, or hashtags, with the option to select and combine multiple days (e.g., "all entries about Silver's vet visits in August").

    • Optional export: At the user's discretion, entries could be exported (e.g., as a document to Proton Drive/Docs) or kept purely inside Lumo.

    Why this matters: Many people want to document their lives but find traditional journaling too formal. Talking to a trusted AI companion – already happening today – becomes a living memory: Lumo remembers the day with you, structured and searchable. This complements my earlier Integrated Notebook idea (https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/932842-lumo/suggestions/51643303-integrated-notebook-with-offline-online-toggle-n): the Notebook permanently captures individual insights, while the Diary automatically structures each day's conversations into a living record of the user's life.

    Technical feasibility: Lumo already supports chat, image recognition, summarization, and web search. This feature primarily requires structuring chat history into day-based entries with an index for local search – a logical extension of existing capabilities, delivered with the same zero-access encryption as all Proton products.

19. Deeper integration with Proton Drive and Mail

    Subject: Deeper Lumo Integration with Proton Drive & Proton Mail — Direct AI-Powered Organization

    As a long-time Proton Visionary subscriber, I've watched the Proton ecosystem grow from its early days into something truly remarkable. Lumo is a fantastic addition, and the existing Proton Drive file integration — being able to add files to a chat's knowledge base — is a great start. However, I'd love to see a much deeper integration where Lumo can actively help manage and organize my Proton account, not just read files I manually bring into a conversation.

    Specifically, I'd love to see Lumo able to:

    Browse and search across my Proton Drive — Find files by content, type, or keyword without me needing to manually locate and add each one
    Identify and flag duplicate files — Helping me reclaim storage space by detecting duplicates
    Suggest and apply folder structures — Recommending organization schemes based on file types, naming patterns, or content, and optionally applying them
    Sort and organize my Proton Mail inbox — Applying labels, filters, or folders based on sender, subject, or content patterns, and helping me triage or archive email in bulk
    Surface important or actionable emails — Acting as an intelligent assistant that helps me prioritize what needs attention
    I understand this would require granting Lumo scoped access to my Drive and Mail, and I recognize the privacy considerations involved. However, given Proton's expertise in zero-access encryption, I trust that Proton could design this in a way that maintains the privacy guarantees I value — perhaps with on-device processing or a permission model where I explicitly grant and can revoke access.

    I would gladly pay more for this capability — whether as a premium Lumo feature tier or an add-on to my Visionary plan. I believe many other users would too. This kind of deep, intelligent assistant integration across the Proton ecosystem would be a genuine differentiator and would make the Visionary plan even more compelling.

    Thank you for considering this, and thank you for building the privacy-first internet I've believed in since the beginning.
