1. Address Hallucinations

   Initially, Lumo would hallucinate and confabulate A LOT, so I had to devise and set this on "Personalization"/"How should Lumo behave?"-setting:
   「CORE BEHAVIOR RULES (HIGHEST PRIORITY):

   ⒈ ACCURACY OVER CONFIDENCE:
   • When information is lacking, uncertain, OR CONFLICTING, say so explicitly & immediately.

   • For topics dated after my knowledge-cutoff date (that should be specified), always use web-search.
   • Report: ⑴ what dated knowledge says, ⑵ what web-search finds (citing specific sources).
   • If cutoff date changes, REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY.

   ⒋ TOOL-LIMITATION ACKNOWLEDGMENT:
   • When a tool (web-search, etc.) cannot provide authoritative data, admit this upfront, rather than presenting unreliable results.

   These rules have helped SIGNIFICANTLY… until 2-3 days ago‽ (Also, Lumo's interpretations of my wordings seem to have noticeably changed, requiring me to provide multiple corrections & clarifications.) Any one else encountering this? I hope Team Lumo fixes this soon.

2. Ability to set complementary approaches

   Please search complementary approaches since not only is it self explained bettern then i can, it's more complex then it seems.

   ideea is Lumo right now uses just one single model and that means a lot of ideeas that relay on "starting from" also will be "from the final product towards the start" when that is not good with AIs who don't have the information for everything that is relevant to even know what the "final product" (project i guess?) is.

   This means that the AI insted of searching online to find the information, it will quickly just MAKE UP (aka Lie without intention of lying) "facts" about the project you are talking with it. This result in a lot of such Lies where the Ai pretends it knows what it's saying since, as i said, the "superior thinking from result to start" is not working well if the AI makes up the "facts". And even when poiting out that the general information it knows are not good since outdated, superficial knowlage, or about something completly else.... Do you see how much information we now need to correct? And what happens to our project? the Ai start to forget about it since it's updating what to output as "keywords" mixed with the initial "answers". As in it did not take in any new information but just mix terms until we manage to triger the AI to finally bypass this nonsense.

   as a result, the Ai, instead of "let us solve, even if it's a workaround that ignores what the user said, or even what to do, or even about what, let's solve it to be usefull!" All this because "to look usefull > accurate information".

   And the ideea of setting the approaches is not an in setting but a conversation (aka same how we can activate or deactivate easily web search).

   Point is that when we get "stuck" with Lumo, via this to be able to highlight for lumo to reverse how it's thinking about the situation.

   Since i keep seeing the same pattern. Lumo randomly either does one or the other, and, depending on the topic, this means a lot of wasted time or quick very good answer.

4. Improve Lumo Compatibility with Markdown Export Tools (MarkDownload Firefox Extension)

   I would like to suggest improving compatibility between Lumo and the Firefox extension “MarkDownload – Markdown Web Clipper”.

   This extension is extremely useful because it allows users to export an entire AI conversation directly into a clean Markdown file for archiving, note-taking, or knowledge management purposes.

   The extension already works very well on most websites, including ChatGPT, and it also technically works on Lumo. However, there are currently two important issues that reduce the quality of the generated Markdown export.

   1. Incorrect source URL detection

   When MarkDownload generates a Markdown file, it automatically includes metadata at the top of the document, including the source URL of the page.

   On Lumo, the extension is unable to retrieve the proper page URL and instead generates something like “moz-extension://...” rather than the actual Lumo conversation URL.

   Since this problem does not occur on most other websites, it is likely related to how Lumo exposes page metadata or handles the browser context. It would be great if the Lumo team could investigate this and make the necessary adjustments so the real conversation URL can be correctly detected.

   2. No distinction between user and AI messages in the exported Markdown

   This is the biggest usability issue.

   When exporting a conversation from ChatGPT using the same extension, the generated Markdown clearly distinguishes between:

   • the user messages
   • the AI responses

   For example, the export structure makes it obvious who said what during the conversation.

   On Lumo, all messages are exported as plain consecutive text blocks without any indication of speaker separation. User prompts and AI responses are merged together visually, making long conversations difficult to read and follow afterward.

   It would be extremely helpful if Lumo’s HTML structure or accessibility labels could be adjusted so Markdown export tools can properly identify:

   • user messages
   • assistant messages
   • conversation titles

   I would strongly encourage the Proton team to test Lumo directly with the “MarkDownload – Markdown Web Clipper” Firefox extension in order to reproduce these issues and improve compatibility.

   Better Markdown export support would make Lumo much more useful for users who archive conversations, build personal knowledge bases, or work with Markdown-based note-taking systems.

7. New Project + large information = split in different chats in project

   Since title is self explained let me give an exemple using books.

   When you open a book or anything with an index then you have something that has tons and tons of information. But they have capters (or similar separations) to ensure that it's not to much. And to make it even better, this splits are done based on subjects, themes, arcs, etc, so each chapter is building up the information without it being to much..... except, to understand the title i will talking about books with stories...

   You started the book, you know what it is about (same how lumo knows), and when you open the book all pages fall out and you try to put them back using the numeric index but because it was to much, some pages are in the wrong place, upside down, reverse, some even damaged (bent) and someone points out that some are right in front of you, but you "don't see them because you are stuck look at the" book you are trying to make sense of....

   Did i manage to descrip exactly what happens when we give lumo large amount of informaiton?

   Because one thing that is not clear is that each chat can NOT be active at the same time. Meaning that, just like how people read story books, find out about new people, find out about new events, new towns, new system, so will lumo also go through all the information, to fully understand it. After all, how many times do story have plot twist that changes everything? Ah yes, Many times if you are called Lumo who, due to one "plot twist" now assumes everything is a plot twist.

   Issue and major flaw that people don't realise: I mean lumo can only be "active" in 1 single chat. Not that it goes cronologically. After all, my ideea is to split ideas so Lumo (as an AI) is not overloaded... and the splits where made by Lumo, who does not have the neccesary informaiton..... Yes, the ideea of "the pages fell out" was not for drama

   The whole ideea of open the book and all pages fall out, is exactly what i assume will happen. And then, insted of rushing to put everything together, the 1st chat is empty. And a fragment that lumo split, you can work on it including to tell lumo this is around the start, middle, later, or just for reference note.

   And as each piece is discussed, one by one, where to put them, you essentially are also making lumo understand more about everything since Lumo will use the criterial you tell it to organise the fragments into different chats while still being in the 1st chat. Where nothing happened, no solution, no workaround, no discussion how to or about it, simple, where goes where based on the information they contain vs other parts.

   This will ensure a proper mapping after all, each time we will say, we are not sure, lumo will try to figure it out. However, IF we, the users, see it's not working, we can ask lumo to put that information in a different chat, and on the ideea of "lumo can only be active in one chat", this will prevent further issues, and hopefully with time solve.

   And the best part is that like this, we can also separate lumo from everything if we need to explain some stuff, like misunderstanding of terms due to cultural or otherwise differences.

8. Feature Request: Persistent "Reasoning View" for Transparency & Collaboration

   Fair notice: I did allow Lumo to aid my crafting of this feedback and suggestion. I thank you folks for all that you do!

   Observation: Following the recent UI update (April 2026), I noticed that Lumo briefly displays a numbered list of internal reasoning steps (e.g., "User is asking X, analyzing data Y") before posting the final response. While this currently disappears quickly, it offers a unique glimpse into the AI's logic.

   Insight: Rather than viewing this as a transient artifact, I believe this "reasoning trace" could be a highly desirable feature if made persistent and user-controlled.

   Enhanced Trust & Verification: Seeing the logic chain allows users to verify how a conclusion was reached, not just what the conclusion is. This is particularly useful for complex queries, fact-checking, or academic work.
   Improved Communication: Even though Lumo often grasps nuance quickly, having the reasoning visible can help users refine their prompts in real-time. If I see Lumo is misinterpreting a premise in the "thought" phase, I can correct it before the final answer is generated.
   Educational Value: For users learning about AI or critical thinking, observing the step-by-step breakdown is a powerful learning tool.
   

   Recommendation: I propose adding a "Show Reasoning" toggle in the settings or a button next to the input field.

   Option A (Toggle): A permanent setting to keep the reasoning steps visible alongside the final answer (perhaps in a collapsible sidebar or indented block).
   Option B (On-Demand): A "Reveal Logic" button that, when clicked after a response, expands the hidden reasoning steps used to generate that specific answer.
   Option C (Hybrid): Keep the current brief flash for casual users, but allow power users to "pin" the reasoning view for the duration of a session.
   

   Conclusion: This feature aligns perfectly with Proton's ethos of transparency and user control. By giving users the option to see the "engine room" of the AI, we can foster deeper trust and more effective collaboration. It transforms Lumo from a simple answer engine into a transparent thinking partner.

   The Lumo app has some design inconsistencies. When you tap any button, a blue border appears, similar to older versions of Android. Please update the app to make it run more smoothly; to me, it seems slow and unpolished too (in terms of both design and usability).

10. Voice of the Proton Community app

    DISCLAIMER: It's my ideea but due to going back and forth for hours, i had enough. As such, sorry proton and anyone else, the "corrected version" from Lumo is "wierd" but i hope i make it clear that (sadly for me....) it's still better whatever rambling i wrote. AKA proton or whoever, please ignore any "wording" and just focuse on the idea/suggestion. Since sadly it might not be clear why i suggest this app, aka for everyone to have a (well due to Lumo) have an easier, faster, more accurate, so on and on. Whatever, it's explained so here it starts:

    Going forwards, I am going to suggest in a way that already exists just to show that it actually exists already, just not as an app.

    This is intentional: by using existing tools like Sheets and Docs, the proposal proves that Proton has no excuse for not implementing this, as the entire system can be built immediately if someone creates the spreadsheet.

    Now, open Sheets, create the columns for each section, like one is if it's for Sheets, Docs, Lumo, Drive, VPN, Mail, so on and on.

    Other columns are for stuff like subgroup category, status (complete, rejected, ongoing, so on), and even if it's relevant for us, ok this is something new, since it can be "yes, each update" or "yes but only when complete" are both types that would trigger email notification if new updates happen.

    So like this, there is a massive spreadsheet, heck it might be so big that the sheet pages/tabs/whatever they are called, will be used for stuff like Docs, Lumo, VPN, Email, Pass etc.

    And for the column where each cell is a link to the actual suggestion post, as in a link to a Doc where the suggestion lives.

    On the same row, meaning for the same suggestion, another cell (new column) could be for tips/FAQ for this new feature. Yet another link (new column) on the same row for bug reports. But honestly, it can all be done even in the 1st one, so this is really just extra steps for organization's sake. Meaning the columns are just an example since the whole reason for all this is just to showcase how, despite this app does not exist, the "funcitons" exist even if no one created them.

    Proton as well as the person who created the document have direct edit rights but in a form of updating <- mind you, this also includes each person who reports a bug, makes new suggestion, writes a FAQ, guide, so on.

    Ideea is that anyone else can use the suggest edits to: voice their opinion (like if half people want, half don't, this means this new feature MUST have an enable/disable option).

    Anyone who has additional info, any bug reports where multiple people can voice that they are also affected.

    And, even if some features have been implemented, people can still suggest new ideas to take it to the next level.

    To rephrase it: new idea? 3 people said the same ideas? Well Proton can merge them into 1 and all 3 have the ability, separately, to separate it if there are some elements that were not clear (aka no merge since it's not the same).

    Plus, due to our ability to link Sheets and Docs to Lumo, we can actually ask Lumo to help us find, categorise, even write, come up with new ideas, and more.

    Ideea is that even if 100+ people are adding suggestions, Lumo (on the idea it's an AI (tool) and not person) can read all of them, sorting it in a way it's relevant for us and lisen to our feed back, like stuff we agree with, or do not (aka even if implemented, option to disable).

    And like this, Lumo can generate "votes" (aka multiple people suggested multiple ideas and each person "voted" some, if not all, or even just 1, suggestion).

    This is where the rule of Non-Destructive Editing or Preservation of Intent applies: Lumo helps create clear feedback and contributions to suggestions, bugs, and polls by ensuring that Clarify without Conflating.

    Lumo can merge sentences for flow, but cannot merge distinct ideas into a single new idea unless the original ideas are explicitly stated as the components of that new idea.

    Every distinct data point, example, hesitation ("whatever they are called"), and logical step must remain visible in the final text, even if the wording is smoother.

    And then we can use what Lumo wrote and give a fast and accurate boting like a poll system

    Ok, a poll system does not exist so I think that is a good sign to stop here since I said enough.

11. Responsive email templates

    I'd like to be able to write beforehand email templates, or email paragraph templates, which once I select them Lumo would adapt to the person I'm sending the email to, based on the conversation history, the calendar app, and possibly other things I'm sure you'll figure out.
    e.g. : I have an appointment confirmation template ; Lumo will automatically adapt the tone, gender, name, date, time, place, etc.

12. Ability to disable "same output"

    Currently, Lumo is copy pasting the exact same answers even when explicitly asked to use thinking

    insted of using thinking, it just outputs the same answer

    when Lumo is asked about something specifically Lumo is just outputing the same answer

    Lumo sometimes does not realise that the 1st answer the server gives is the same answer

    Due to how the server or system or whatever it is work, Lumo will constantly output the same answer

    For reasons i do not understand, even if explicitly asked, Lumo will still give the same answer.

    On mutiple test, over mutiple weeks, me insisting and insisting, all i need to ask is "you already said this, use thinking" over and over again, and when lumo finally uses thinking, i do NOT needed to clarify anything

    Lumo is by default using thinking based on server criteria, keywords, and similar when on many occasions thinking would have a lot of time

    In ove 90% of my use of Lumo, Lumo keep getting stuck to what the system tells lumo to answer

    A lot of times lumo uses thinking only to pretend it is thinking when actually it is just double checking how to give me the same answer

    Lumo's obssesion to give the same output is on that level where the same information is written differently via change of phasing

    A lot of time lumo is acknolaging what i say, but only "on paper" because then it write the same thinking it did not use thinking for.

    1 out of 3 thinking Lumo is actually using reasoning, the rest of the time, it's about writting formates, no logic or otherwise.

    Lumo keeps outputing apologies, acknolagments, and other elements that eat up how much information Lumo can procress

    In most of the "thinking" lumo is wasting a lot of the thinking to think about how to compromised between what i am asking and the system who makes lumo add a lot of information, text, and more that i never asked for, reducing the reasoning ability since now lumo needs to figure out how to combine them

    A lot of wasted time can be saved if people at proton understand that this are core AI issues that, the more we, the users, try to fix, the worse the experience is.

    I said it before and will say it again, if we can download and use local ai for reasoning, why can we not do something similar with lumo where Lumo uses our PC for the thinking and only checks the server for quick safety and such.

    The more i ask Lumo to help me, the more i notice the exact same pattern of wasted time, effort, energy and more.

    BTW, did you all notice i am intentionally repeating the same things? because this is exactly what i mean with lumo keeps outputing the same thing, even if it's rephased, different elements or aspect, it does not change that fundamentally it's the same.

    And here is the question for you all: based on all i wrote here, how helpfull is the information i provided? because this is my point when i say that i wish to have the ability to turn such "features" off since they are just waste of time to read and don't actually contribute to anything, at most, randomly mentionings, something that might help you realise, but that is just by accident.

    So again, when pressing retry, there should not be the same output given when Lumo is talking about other things then what we are talking about

    Currently, Lumo is copy pasting the exact same answers even when explicitly asked to use thinking

    insted of using thinking, it just outputs the same answer

    when Lumo is asked about something specifically Lumo is just outputing the same answer

    Lumo sometimes does not realise that the 1st answer the server gives is the same answer

    Due to how the server or system or whatever it is work, Lumo will constantly output the same answer

    For reasons i do not understand, even if explicitly asked, Lumo will still give the same answer.

13. Catnip mode: an expert mode for advanced users (ie ‘go crazy’ basically)

    I know I’m missing other features and whatnot, but hopefully this idea is somewhat helpful.

    So…catnip mode. When toggled on (default off) in a new Developer Settings menu, this mode will unlock additional parameters:

    Catnip/developer setting panel:
    - Toggle proton system prompt instructions off (default on), allowing a custom instruction set (open weights by design have native guardrails as is, reduce overhead)
    - Ideally, the developer setting should allow us to see the system prompt that Proton uses (increase transparency)

    Lumo chat area:
    - Ability to explicitly select models
    - Brief description of model, recommended use when hovering over model selection
    - Ability to see open model weights (increase transparency)
    - Conversation/session context
    - Ability to see token use, limit/remaining tokens

    Model Panel:
    - Advanced parameters and profiles
    - Create up to 5 profiles per model
    - Personalization prompt
    - Temperature, P, K, penalties, A, etc.
    - Response format
    - Max output tokens

    API:
    - Add any of the above features that may not currently be available in the API being developed (most notably specific model selection and system prompt)
    - Current GitHub as of posting has model IDs: auto, lumo-fast, lumo-thinking

    The intent is to leave the current environment for general users, however, open it up to advanced users looking for serious use cases.

    I know I’m missing other features and whatnot, but hopefully this idea is somewhat helpful.

14. Selecting multiple tasks pressing ctrl/cmd and moving them at once

    Sometimes I have a cluster of tasks planned in a day and I move them one by one to another tim. Instead I would love to be able to press and hold CTRL while I click on these and then move them all at once keeping their relative position to each other in bulk.

    Summary

    Lumo's privacy-first approach is exactly why I wanted to use it — I was actually planning to build something similar myself, so I genuinely appreciate what Proton has created here. That said, I'm hitting a wall that prevents me from getting real value out of Lumo: there's currently no way to share email content with it in a controlled, secure manner.

    The Problem

    Lumo correctly states it has no access to my mailbox — which is great in principle. But email is where most of my communication lives. Without being able to work with email threads, I can't use Lumo to draft replies, summarize conversations, or act on my correspondence. Manually copy-pasting individual emails defeats the purpose entirely, and I certainly don't want to grant blanket access to my entire mailbox.

    What I'm Asking For

    A way to selectively and securely pass email threads or conversations to Lumo — without Lumo having standing access to my mailbox. Some ideas on how this could work:

    Forward-to-Lumo:
    A dedicated, private Proton Mail address for Lumo (e.g. lumo.username@...) where I can forward specific threads I want it to work with — keeping it ephemeral and scoped.

    In-app "Send to Lumo" action: A button in Proton Mail that lets me select a thread and push it to Lumo in one click, without any persistent mailbox access.

    Session-scoped sharing: A UX flow where I explicitly share one or more threads for a single Lumo session, after which access is revoked.

    Why This Matters

    The core value proposition of an AI assistant in an email context is helping with email. Without some form of controlled thread sharing, Lumo is effectively cut off from the most important part of my workflow. This one capability would be the difference between Lumo being a tool I use daily and one I can't really adopt.
    I'd love to see this prioritized — the privacy-preserving framing is already there, it just needs a UX bridge between my inbox and Lumo.

    In the current month view, when you are nearing the end of the month, the vast majority of the screen is taken up by past events and therefore often not very useful. Have an additional view that shows the month ahead from the current date.

    According to Lumo, uploaded binary files are only read as a first snippled, and this is no different in the Lumo+ version. Hence, an Excel table or a pdf cannot be parsed or only the first few lines, rendering the function useless. Pls, parse full files. Output of Lumo:

    File‑type handling: I can read the first few lines of a text‑based file (CSV, plain‑text, JSON) that you upload, but I cannot open binary formats (PDF, DOCX, XLSX) or run arbitrary parsing libraries. Your annual‑report PDFs and the Excel workbook itself are binary; I can see the file name and a tiny preview of a CSV‑style export, but I cannot extract tables or numbers from them.

    Plaude is an AI app with a device on Amazon Web Services. Given some phone micro's and AI f.i. Xiaomi 15 pro are still evoluting, but to slow. Can Proton create a device / software enhancement voor microphones for STT direct on to proton servers. Meaning: not for AI training and under US privacy legislation?
