They delete accounts that are inactive for over a year already.

Proton deletes accounts which are inactive for more than 1-2 years. https://proton.me/support/inactive-accounts

If ever implemented, this should be a toggle feature and requiring an external email address to notify (with enough time) that the proton account will be removed due to inactivity in the upcoming days or weeks.

I agree, I would prefer my dead logins to be gone forever if I was unable to log into them for a while as it is liikly I lost the password
