Modernize Standard Notes
In a market with consolidated competitors such as Obsidian, Anytype, AFFiNE, among others, it is essential that Standard Notes offers real-time collaboration features, in addition to the other editing functions of its competitors.
The dated interface is also a problem. When you look at the UI/UX of competitors, you can see how Standard Notes needs a design makeover to modernize it and get it out of that dated software look.

Standard Note should be integrated in the Proton suite.
It doesn't need to be too complex but functionalities such as fonts (type, size and highlights), lists, images, audio, charts... are necessary -

Maybe they could buy anytype and merge it into standard notes to make proton notes

Excuse me OP, but Obsidian looks atrocious. Just a mess.

I like Standard Notes because it syncs between devices (for free). But I'd like it more if it could use markdown syntax, photos, and audio like Obsidian.

Dammit. The current Standard Note app's UI is too painful! I want a total revamp!

Markdown syntax is such a basic feature that it should be available to all.

As a Standard Notes user, I appreciate its privacy focus but think it needs modern features like real-time collaboration and improved organization (e.g., folders or tags). These would make it more competitive with tools like Obsidian while preserving its security edge. Proton should consult the community to prioritize updates that boost usability without sacrificing privacy.

I think that SN may not need to over complicate things like Obsidian to "Modernize". I switched to NotesNook because Obsidian overcomplicates the note taking experience to try to deepen it. Unless you're a power user, most of the features never get used. I felt like I was spending more time working on the "taking of the notes" than the actual notes themselves. I see a lot of users bringing up collaboration, I think that's a massive thing that a Business & Personal oriented suite like Proton could benefit from most.

While I support real-time collaboration, I'd like for there to be an option to retain the current interface and themes (as "classic mode," for example) because for my personal notetaking, I like using non-distracting plain text editors.

The user below (Fanfare39) that mentioned Anytype is spot on. Once you use a modern app like Anytype, Amplenote, Obsidian, or even Logseq the dated UI in Standard Notes is just painful. If you're familiar with using / commands while you work any app without them becomes a productivity sinkhole.

To improve Proton, focus on performance optimization, especially for graphics-intensive applications, and enhance compatibility with a broader range of Windows software. Prioritizing seamless integration with Linux environments will reduce setup complexity. Regular updates, better documentation, and community feedback channels would greatly support users and drive rapid, impactful improvements. https://fmapps.org

Not entirely sure about this, the app being simple to use is one of its main points, its not trying to be Obsidian. For collaboration you could create Proton docs now anyway.
I do really like something like Logseq, and would love to have it as part of the Proton family, but I dont know if the complex functionality of Logseq/Obsidian and fast simple notes of SN should be the same app.

I have started using Anytype and I think is an amazing tool with lots of potencial. It really fast scaled up and allowed me to delete many other apps and centralize many things in just one secure and encrypted app. It would be really nice to have something similar integrated with proton. It would be killer for other apps like notion for example.

Good idea, I am however not in favor of Standard Notes becoming an Obsidian. This kind of project would require quite colossal resources from the developers while it is just an app note-taking. Modernize why not, collaborate great idea, but complicate is not useful in my opinion. It's already great to have a privacy-respecting notes application, it's rare in this niche.

It’s good aide, proton Notes
Develop an app for notes, but please make synchronization between devices free, and also open the app on more than one device.

A proton pricing tier including the professional Standard Notes would be great. I second everyone talking about making proton a more holistic productivity suite.
