1. Feature Request [proton-mail-export-cli] Add --since and --filter-domain flags for scoped, incremental backups

   Summary

   Love the export tool and use it for regular business backups. Two small additions to the CLI would make it significantly more practical for recurring and domain-scoped use cases: a --since flag to limit exports to a recent time window, and a --filter-domain flag to scope exports to a specific email domain.

   Proposed Flags

   --since DATE

   Export only messages on or after a given date (ISO 8601).

   ./proton-mail-export-cli --operation backup --dir ./backup --since 2026-03-01
   

   --since is the established convention for this pattern across tools like git log, journalctl, and most backup utilities, making it immediately intuitive.

   Why it matters: Without this flag, every run re-scans and re-downloads the entire mailbox. On a large inbox a full export can take hours. With --since, a weekly backup of a busy inbox downloads tens of messages instead of thousands — making scheduled backups fast and storage-efficient.

   --filter-domain DOMAIN

   Export only messages where at least one address field (From, To, CC, BCC) matches the given domain.

   Why it matters: Users managing multiple identities or custom domains have no way today to produce a focused archive without post-processing. A single flag makes compliance exports and domain-scoped backups first-class workflows.

2. standardize

   How about standardizing each Proton Product's login Dashboard to have the same look and feel with links for Account, Product Download, Properties, Settings, etc all be in the same location for each product dashboard. Seriously, what a friggin pain ********** it is to try and locate these settings on each dashboard?! The links are either missing, or moved, or whatever - it's frustrating! Think about a product like Microsoft's Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Each product I open has these controls easy to locate, in the same place, and easy to navigate. I mean, how hard can it be? Seem like Proton products are all developed by different companies who don't communicate with each other.

3. Identity/Adresse Book Wallet for online shopping and more

   Dear Proton Team,

   The massive usage of online shopping causes big issues : we all rely on these platforms to secure personal information, and avoid having them available on dark web (or directly sold to date brokers)
   
   As we can hope (or pray) that's the case for Payment info, we all know that "less valuable" info like mobile phone or postal address are not so protected.
   And each day i read in the news about a new site leaked by some hacker group (especially here, in France)

   So my idea is : instead of filling mobile and postal adresse on each shopping site, i would like to provide a "proton id wallet" link or Id to each site.
   Kind of what's it's done when i pay with Paypal, but for administrative information.

   From the vendor site perspective, they only have an IdKey, and they have to connect to this ProtonWallet to get the needed information (and they should need it only to send the products)

   From the user perspective, i have a dashboard with an entry for each vendor.
   And on each entry, i can choose which information i accept to share (the information consent could be configured the first time i do the connection on the vendor site). And i could optionaly set a deadline and/or revoke access.

   This new app could have a default "relaxed" behaviour to have more easy adoption for most users (consent for all information requested by vendor with no deadline). Even with this relaxed mode, it would be really more difficult for hackers to leak this information (as they would not be directly in the vendor database)

   So besides the technical aspect, the bigger issue is the adoption on the platforms side : more easy for them to keep their system as it and store information locally.
   That's why it can be only a serious and big company like you that could propose this. If more and more users install it and ask their favorite platform to move to it, it could change progressively. And marketing campaigns would help ("serious online shops take care of your private data by using Proton ID Wallet")

   I would like to request a collaboration or API integration with MoneySheets.io. This service uses official Open Banking to automatically pull bank transactions into a spreadsheet and calculate income, expenses, and savings. It currently works only with Google Sheets, which forces privacy-conscious users like me to move sensitive financial data outside the Proton ecosystem.
   An integration that allows MoneySheets to sync directly into Proton Sheets would be extremely valuable. It would let Proton users automate their personal finance tracking while staying 100% within your secure, privacy-first environment. This feature would strengthen Proton Sheets as a practical daily tool and show your commitment to real-world privacy needs.

   This is primarily focused on the desktop version of the application. On my iOS device, I can already require Face ID, but I’d love to see enhancements to the App Lock feature in Proton Mail and Authenticator. Specifically, adding the option to use biometric authentication (fingerprint or face recognition) or a passcode would provide an extra layer of security and convenience. This would give users greater flexibility in protecting access to their 2FA codes while also aligning with best practices for securing sensitive applications.

7. Secret References: CLI-Based Env Variable Injection for Developer Workflows

   Add support for secret references in developer environments, allowing users to reference Proton Pass secrets directly in shell sessions and configuration files without ever writing sensitive values to disk in plain text.

   The Problem
   Developers currently have no way to use Proton Pass as the single source of truth for secrets in their development workflows. Even with a .env file properly added to .gitignore, credentials still exist in plain text on disk, vulnerable to accidental exposure, editor leaks, and local filesystem access.

   Each developer on a team must also manually sync secret values out-of-band, creating drift and security gaps.

   Proposed Solution
   Introduce a pass CLI command (e.g. proton-pass run or pass inject) that resolves secret references at runtime and injects them as environment variables into a process, similar to how 1Password's op run command works.

   This would enable a workflow like:

   bashproton-pass run -- node server.js

   Where a .env file (or shell config) contains only references, never values:

   The CLI authenticates with Proton Pass (via session token or biometric unlock), resolves each reference at runtime, and passes the real values to the child process — which never touches the filesystem.

   Key Capabilities Requested

   • A proton-pass run CLI command that wraps a process and injects resolved secrets as environment variables
   • Support for a reference syntax (e.g. proton://vault/item/field) pointing to specific vault items and fields
   • Integration with .env-style files so tools like dotenv, direnv, and Docker Compose can pick up the resolved values without modification
   • A proton-pass inject variant that prints resolved output to stdout for piping into scripts
   • Optional: a VS Code / JetBrains extension that resolves references transparently during local development

   Why This Matters
   Proton Pass is already trusted for personal and team credentials. Extending it into the developer workflow, where secrets are most often mishandled, makes it a complete end-to-end secrets solution. It directly addresses the gap between "secure storage" and "secure usage," which is where most breaches actually happen.

   This feature would make Proton Pass a compelling alternative to 1Password Secrets Automation and HashiCorp Vault for individual developers and small teams who don't need enterprise-scale infrastructure but do need secrets hygiene.

8. Deletion of a photo from preview window with web-based Proton Drive

   This one is pretty simple; using Proton Drive on a web browser, when I click on the thumbnail of a picture/video/file for preview, there is no way to be able to delete it. This is needed and IMO it is the right location to proceed for a deletion: when the file is being viewed. It is also helpful for files management and can help free spaces from your server, the planet, and our subscription.

9. Rename mobile apps

   The current apps on Android all have the prefix "Proton <App>". Personally, I'm not a fan. My app drawer has all apps under the letter P and it doesn't matter what function the app has. I would expect Drive under D, Mail under M, Calender under C etc.

   I would like the apps to be renamed to e.g. "Drive by Proton", translated to each language so the apps show up where the other apps with the corresponding function are.

11. Detect Busy Git Repositories and Delay Sync to Prevent Corruption

    I would like to suggest a feature that would significantly improve reliability when working with Git repositories inside Proton Drive.

    Problem:
    Git operations (commit, checkout, rebase, merge, gc, etc.) modify many files inside the .git directory and are not atomic at the directory level. If Proton Drive syncs the repository while such an operation is in progress, this can result in corrupted repositories, broken working copies, or inconsistent history.

    Suggested Solution:
    When Proton Drive detects that a directory is a Git repository (contains a .git folder), the sync client should delay syncing that directory while the repository is “busy”.

    Simple detection method:
    A Git repository is in use when lock files exist, especially:

    .git/index.lock
    .git/HEAD.lock
    .git/packed-refs.lock
    .git/config.lock
    .git/shallow.lock

    If any of these files exist, Proton Drive should temporarily skip syncing that repository and retry later.

    More robust method (used by some sync clients):

    Detect file activity in .git/objects/ and pack files (.pack, .idx)
    Wait until no changes occur in the .git directory for a certain time (e.g., 10–30 seconds)
    Then start syncing

    Why this matters:
    Many developers store working directories inside Proton Drive. Syncing during active Git operations is a common cause of repository corruption with cloud sync tools. Delaying sync while a repo is busy would prevent data loss and reduce sync conflicts.

    This change would make Proton Drive much safer and more attractive for developers.

13. Hide previous conversations in a conversation thread with "..." button

    When I open a conversation in ProtonMail, I see the entire conversation history. This is very annoying when there is a new email in that thread with an attachment - I always have to scroll through the ENTIRE conversation down to the bottom where the attachments are visible in the UI. Please hide previous conversations by default and make them visible by clicking a "..." button just link in Gmail.

    I'm using Proton Pass for all logins. But to start using it on a new device I have to manually enter my Proton password there. It would be very nice to be able to scan a QR code by already logged in device instead.

    2) Also the account owner should be able to limit emergency user access to read-only, maybe just for a limited time like 1-2 years, during which owner has ability to reset the emergency user access and they have to request again.

    3) Owner should be able to limit access only to some services, like for example Drive or even certain folder of a Drive or Mail. This possibility I have not seen announced in mentioned articles.

16. Sign Photos with My Proton Mail Key (like Guardian Project’s ProofMode)

    What I want:
    A single “Sign with Proton” action that works everywhere—when I’m composing in Mail, uploading to Drive, or sharing a file from any third‑party app (camera, scanner, office suite). It should use the exact private key I already have for signing Proton Mail messages, just like the Guardian Project’s ProofMode signs photos and videos.

    Why it matters:
    One key, all files – One cryptographic identity protects my emails, documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, photos, and videos.
    Traditional document signing – The same PGP/ECC signature that lawyers and businesses trust for contracts can now be applied to any file without leaving Proton.
    AI‑fake / deep‑fake defense – A valid signature (timestamp, device fingerprint, optional GPS) proves the file is exactly what I created. Any AI‑generated alteration breaks the signature, instantly flagging the content as tampered.

    Security & UX details

    Local signing only – Private key stays in the Secure Enclave/Keystore; only a hash of the file is signed.
    Optional metadata – GPS, device ID, and a notarisation token are added only after explicit consent.
    Revocation handling – Verification automatically checks Proton’s key directory for revoked keys.
    Supported formats – Detached PGP signatures for any binary; embedded signatures for PDFs, Office docs, and common image/video containers (JPEG, PNG, MP4).
    Batch signing – Multi‑select in Drive or the share sheet allows signing many files at once.
    Benefits

    Consolidates traditional document signing and modern media proof into one trusted workflow.
    Gives a reliable, cryptographic way to detect AI‑generated fakes or post‑creation edits across all file types.
    Strengthens Proton’s position as a unified, privacy‑first productivity suite.

17. Always connect to Proton Wallet using a password.

    The Proton wallet should be more secure by enabling its two additional options:
    2) Always require a password to log in to Proton Wallet, even if we are already logged in to another Proton application. Ideally with two-factor authentication.
    1) Log out after a few minutes of inactivity.

    Context: I just realised that:
    1) Even if I don't tick the ‘Remember me’ box, as soon as a session is open on the computer, I can log in to Proton Mail or Proton Wallet or other services without a password on the Vivaldi browser. This is still the case even after deleting cookies.
    2) If I am logged into Proton Mail and click on the ‘Proton App’ button, I can access my Proton wallet without entering a password.
    Therefore, if I forget to log out of a Proton application, anyone with access to my computer could log into my Proton wallet.

    I do not find this secure at all.

    The Proton wallet should be more secure by enabling its two additional options:

18. Global Notification to all Trusted Persons When Someone Requested and Granted Emergency Access to a Proton Account

    Further to another existing suggestion (https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/935538-accounts-payments/suggestions/50403483-allow-users-to-configure-an-email-to-be-sent-along), please consider

    1. Automatically notify all trusted persons that who (with their proton email address)
    2. Allow users to configure optional global notifications to all trusted persons when someone

    requested and /or granted emergency access.

    It would be particularly useful when Trusted persons do not know each other or they are at different geo-locations.

    It would allow the trusted persons to work together, if necessary, to better handle the "emergency".

    Dear Proton Product Team,

    I am writing to strongly request an API integration or strategic partnership with Nedap, specifically for their healthcare platform Nedap ONS.

    Who is Nedap?
    Nedap N.V. is not just a local vendor; it is a major Dutch multinational technology company publicly listed on Euronext Amsterdam (AMS: NEDAP). They are a dominant force in the European technology sector, employing over 900 people and operating globally.

    What is Nedap ONS?
    'ONS' is the de facto standard Electronic Health Record (EHR/ECD) and administrative suite for long-term care in the Netherlands. It is used by the majority of organizations in:

    Elderly Care (VVT)

    Disability Care (GHZ)

    Mental Health Care (GGZ)

    The Business Case & Opportunity:
    Currently, thousands of healthcare professionals use Nedap ONS daily to manage sensitive patient data. However, communicating this data externally remains a challenge.

    Perfect Alignment on Privacy: Both Proton and Nedap position themselves as champions of security and privacy. An integration would be the ultimate compliant solution (GDPR/NEN 7510) for secure communication in the Dutch healthcare sector.

    High Volume Enterprise Potential: The user base of Nedap ONS consists of large enterprise healthcare organizations. Facilitating a connection with Proton Mail would lower the barrier for these organizations to adopt Proton for Business on a large scale.

    Technical Feasibility: Nedap maintains a modern, open API platform (Ons API), which is designed for third-party integrations.

    Our Request:
    We urge the Proton team to evaluate the Nedap ONS API capabilities. A validated integration would allow healthcare workers to send encrypted emails directly from their primary workspace, making Proton the preferred secure email provider for the entire Dutch healthcare industry.
