1. Tabs in Proton Docs

   It would be so helpful to have a Tabs feature inside Proton Docs, similar to the Tabs in Google Docs. This is especially helpful for design and management of long term projects.

2. Community design

   Proton is open source; it would be great if it were open to the public like in other systems, where you can develop extensions and plugins.
   Users could create custom interfaces or skins, widgets for phones, icons, or just the overall look of an app. Similar to the way in Home Assistant
   Maybe they could even develop releases for less asked operating systems.

4. Forms for Proton Sheets

   It would be good to have a form to interface with spreadsheets, so data entered can be limited to invitees while blocking update for existing entries. Possibly later, allow interface of Adobe fillable forms.

5. Publish Android apps to Zapstore (Nostr based app store)

   Would be nice to see Proton publish their apps directly to the Nostr based Zapstore (https://zapstore.dev/). It would allow for all the apps to be published on the store, currently there are just the ones released on github.

   It's great for people who want to use GrapheneOS. It would allow for quick publishing of beta apps as there is no cumbersome and long app review process.

   Currently the apps that are available on github are on zapstore. It would be nice to see Proton use their current Nostr account to officially sign and release the apps on the store. For users, the store can be used even without a Nostr pub/priv key.

   What is Zapstore?
   Zapstore is an open Android app store built on Nostr. Apps are discovered through your social graph, releases are cryptographically verified, and developers can receive Bitcoin payments directly from users.

   How is Zapstore different from Google Play?
   Zapstore has no central gatekeeper. Anyone can publish without app-store approval, and trust comes from signatures, social context, and reputation instead of a single platform operator. Developers receive payments directly. No ads, no forced tracking, and no platform cut.

6. Create slim version for compatibility to old browsers

   Proton makes updates to their service time by time and every update breaks compatibility with a large old version browsers and systems. They do not consider that all hardware cannot work smoothly with latest OS versions and therefore, they have to use older browsers.

   In addition, some browsers which have many advantages over other browsers regarding stability and performance -like seamonkey- are not supported by proton at all.

   I know their reasoning is "update for security" but experience shows that servers who rely on day to day update are less secure because they do not informed well about security principals and expect updating or using latest versions of development tool kits keeps them secure.

   Proton criticizes google and other high techs for their monopoly policies while they test primarily their products to work with google chrome and do not concern about alternatives. This behavior is observed on many web sites today. Once they see their website/server works on google chrome well, they say it is OK; not important has problem with other browsers or not.

   I suggest please make a slim, pure html based version of proton to be compatible to all browsers though not supporting all features but at least the email service.

8. Calendar: Bad iOS/iPadOS notifications

   Unlike most other mobile applications, Proton Calendar's notification banners can't be swiped from right to left to dismiss.

   I have to manually visit the Notification Center every single time.

   Please ensure that Proton Calendar notifications for all Apple devices are dismissable with the normal horizontal swipe gesture.

9. Anonymous Blog Hosting

   Staying anonymous online is the reason that I use Proton products. For people that would like to create a blog for whistle-blowing purposes or for reporting things happening in the workplace is very difficult with existing blog hosting services. Most of the so-called "free" blog sites are either in countries with poor privacy policies or limit the features for a free account. For those of us that do not use crypto, this is a problem. If Proton was to offer a true way for journalists or private citizens a secure way to expose criminality or express opinions without fearing reprisal would be awesome.

10. Crowdfund Linux parity

    Run a crowdfunding campaign to put complete Linux parity on the Proton roadmap. This will allow customers and potential customers to demonstrate support more tangibly than with suggestions and votes.

    It is clear from broad and specific suggestions here on UserVoice that there is customer demand for improved Linux support. I can only assume that you are lacking concrete evidence for the SIZE of the demand. This is the intended purpose of crowdfunding campaigns.

    This is a specific, actionable suggestion to provide a solid business case for Linux support. It would also provide potential customers with confidence that Linux support will not languish forever, converting them into paying customers today.

    (The alternative is to wait for a large corporate client to request Linux support, which general users have no influence over.)

    Crowdfunding can be scary, here are some notes:

    • Both promises and expectations should be reasonable. I believe that there is an audience like me who get some use out of Proton Free today, would benefit from and pay for Ultimate (or Family, etc) today, but are not confident that Linux parity is scheduled. A crowdfunder would initiate new subscriptions today, just for that reassurance.

    • Linux-exclusive users would not immediately benefit from the crowdfunder. That's ok, because the mixed audience (above) are demonstrating there is enough demand already, and our colleagues can join later.

    • If the crowdfunder does not reach its target, that would be disappointing but helpful. It would demonstrate that there is not enough consumer support for Proton on Linux today. This would surprise me greatly, but it would make it clear that we need to encourage our Linux colleagues to give feedback on why not.

    • Proton should define the target, timeline and technical scope. I'm not sure that stretch goals and community wishlists are appropriate here, as that tends to be a source of disappointment especially for new and enthusiastic funders.

    • Open source bridge components would allow Proton to support more Linux systems without adding engineering effort. The community can take responsibility for repackaging, redistribution and tight DE integration.

    I'm sure there are details that I haven't considered, but hopefully this suggestion demonstrates that any remaining concerns are surmountable.

11. Proton Docs - Add word and character counter

    It would be great for Proton Docs to have a world and character counter. I have to stay within certain limits for both and I'm sure many people do too.

    Please, add a counter that:
    - is persistent on screen to the side or is there just for a while (toggle, but remember toggle for the account, unlike Google Docs)
    - displays words
    - displays characters
    - displays characters without spaces
    - does 3 of the above for selected block

    Maybe some someone else has also so ideas.

12. contact profile pictures missing

    Gmail correctly finds and shows profile pictures for my contacts that send emails to me. I'm a visual person and I recognize emails based on profile pictures faster than having to read who sent it. Proton fails badly at that, only showing signature letters for contacts that Gmail automatically shows pictures for (and not just for Google accounts, contacts with custom domains). Improve on this, please.

13. delete button order

    I'm used to Delete being the 3rd button in Gmail, I delete every email I read and don't need to keep. It's too far on the left and the confusing and unfamiliar button order is getting too difficult to get used to.

    The best would be the ability to fully customize the email action button order, but just having an alternate order where delete is more aligned with the most used client, Gmail would be very welcome.

    T for Trash is also strange for me, I'd expect it to be D for delete.

    So, apples to oranges. But if I like orange juice more, I'll have to keep buying oranges from the hellish orange seller even though I'd love to switch to buying from the local market.. but if it only sells apples.. right.

15. Parallels

    I use Windows running in Parallels on MAC and cannot install Proton apps for Windows in the Windows VM. As a consultant, I have several clients who use a variety of OS, so I use a MAC (OS Tahoe 26.0.1) and run Linux, Windows and MAC in Parallels VMs. In Windows is the OS where I am in need of Proton apps including VPN. However, cannot install either the Proton Mail app which gets a failure or the VPN app which will not even start an install process. Your help in adding this to your features would be greatly appreciated.

17. Better Drive Integration with iOS

    There really needs to be better integration with iOS and drive. It can be really frustrating at times trying to upload things from any random app to drive. There are times I try to upload a PDF via a notes app, or from a Ted message that I got. It is never an option. You always have to save to iOS Files app first then to Drive. I have found that to be the case with any app that I try to share a file to Drive. Would be nice to have that directly connected to bypass an extra step in the process.

    And it would be great if download could be done in the background so that you don’t have to remain in the same page until it’s finished

    Simply copy all functionalities from Google Workspace while preserving privacy. The way their tools work smoothly and are interconnected is inspiring. Companies need a fully integrated ecosystem, and GWS achieves this perfectly. If you want to be their competitor, just adopt those functionalities.
