Proton Pay - credit / debit card alias
Replacement to GooglePay or ApplePay.
To elaborate, a wallet that can link PayPal, credit cards (then create virtual card numbers so that the real card number is not actually exposed). It would be a cool bonus to see and manage recurring payments and such too.

I totally understand where you're coming from. While a Web3 wallet sounds interesting, having a more conventional digital wallet that can manage everyday payments would be incredibly useful. A wallet that links PayPal, credit cards, and even creates virtual card numbers for added security would be fantastic. The ability to manage recurring payments is a great bonus as well.
I've been using https://linkpay.io/, and it offers exactly what you're describing. It allows you to link your PayPal and credit cards, and it creates virtual card numbers to keep your real card number safe. Plus, it has features for managing and tracking recurring payments, making it a comprehensive solution for all your payment needs.
You should definitely check it out if you're looking for a reliable and versatile digital wallet!

Sites like Privacy.com don't support Canadian banks, so would be amazing if Proton made a service like this available.

"Proton Pay/Wallet" - Like Apple/Google pay/wallet and E2EE for storage of credit card and using uniqie one time proxy credit card (wrong name maybe) for privacy and security against scimming etc. Using the device NFC feature

Would this be similar to https://privacy.com/ ?

Great Idea ! Similiar to the Alias Mail adresses, we could use Alias Credit Cards, which are leading to Proton, proton got our real ones and using those to pay.

(Also make it available for smart watches)

Would recommend looking into privacy.com for right now. Seems to be the closest thing to what you’re describing. The service is completely free to create masked card numbers that can be entered with any cardholder name and billing address, or $10 USD/mo to also mask transactions on your bank statement.

While this would be nice to have, I don't think it fits into Proton's place in the market. There are be better places to dedicate resources to.

Once you go down the financial path your privacy goes out of the window. You'll have to comply with financial rules where anti money laundering and terrorism funding will trump any hope for privacy.
I use a free Revolut account which has throw away credit cards.
Wouldn't waste resources on this to be honest.

I don't really know if this falls under Proton's "decentralization of users" motif. You could try Privacy, and then there is a business bank called Slash that is hard to get in to but allows users to create VCCs and link them to Apple Pay on the fly.

Chad is spot on. They should be focusing on a smaller suite of apps/features that make sense together, and work to make those tip top. Photo sync is a logical enhancement of a cloud storage service and a calendar is a natural tie-in for an email service, but payments have nothing to do with any of Proton's existing apps.

If they can achive this without the Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements that are imposed on the majority of today's traditioanl financal system it would be amazing.
Unless it's KYC free, id rather see wider adoption of a cryptocurrency like monero -

Proton Pay would be very useful and important. This should be the next product Proton expands to.

there are another alternatives? lmao.. funny that ALL OF 'EM dont work in most europe countries. (i did try most of the listed ones here.. especially cloaked and privacy lol)
only google pay etc. does work here
so a privacy respectin' google pay competitor would be nice.
i'm in if this is gonna work where I do live.

There are other alternatives. Do not want an AIO for this. Recommend Cloaked, MySudo, and privacy if you want this.

No thanks.
This is already met with mysudo.com and privacy.com to name two.
People wanting to be cornered into a walled garden is ridiculous. Do we really want another Microsoft, Google, Apple, etc? There is also the "all your eggs in one basket" thing. It is also a very anti-competitive position to hold/take. It is better to decentralize, not centralize.

HTTP3 is a real thing, Web3 is a poorly constructed scam by a person who once raised money selling people on the idea he could emulate a quantum computer and use it to mine BTC. He used his Bitcoin Magazine to popularize one of the worst implementations possible for their concept.
No one wants to pay per function call. And why would you run every ******* piece of software every time you load the blockchain on a new computer? The design could not be worse.
Why has the only things ever been successful are useless like Cryptocats, or NFTs?
Both of which don't even require a blockchain, also if you rollback your blockchain, why even have one? Just used a ******* quorum based ledger.
And I helped build PoS, and its a bad idea, it just creates oligarchies. That is the long term trend. The distribution is also very racist and benefits already well off people. Its a ******* joke.
You could do NFTs with just asymmetric encryption; what people like you don't get is buying crypto doesn't make you a cryptographer. Or an expert in p2p networks, or computer science.
Asymmetric encryption and the Markov tree are the two important key technologies behind Bitcoin; thats why its Bitcoin (as in BitTorrent, one of the first popular uses of the Markov Tree) and not ******* Blockcoin.
For **** sake, I almost guarantee you can not explain what a blockchain is in a cogent sentence. You should only need one too. Also why does the blockchain exist? Do you even understand the problem it is addressing? Its supposed to prevent people like bankers from rolling back the transactions when they put 150 million into a stupid ******* contract that I saw had a bug in it, despite them paying a company 150 million to rubber stamp that its secure; never bothering to ******* test it, they could have ran a ******* test for a year before putting 150 million into a ******* novel contract.
Even if they did implement their system correctly, why would you ever use it? Why wouldn't you fork it if you wanted to run software on it?
Its looking like I will need to invest some time in embarrassing the idiots who run that scam again.

I believe this is a great idea.. I don't use the others and I would use one from proton. It would be nice for proton to continue to build a full privacy suite as an alternative to Apple or Android.. Majority of the population would love that option if its comparable to what they already use.. It wouldn't be hard to make the switch
