This is the biggest issue holding me back from migrating. I'm a paying customer and will remain one to support the product, but It's not clear to me whether I will switch yet - and primarily due to keyboard shortcuts and the less-convenient conversation view. I'm used to very rapidly doing *everything* using the keyboard.
Just in general, it just seems like a huge adoption helper if everyone who's on gmail could just feel instantly at home. Perhaps us keyboard shortcut users are in a small minority, but among that set I think it would really help.

My first thought when Google Docs added tabs was "hey maybe this will become expected and Proton will add it!".
For my own personal use, this would be great as it creates a low key path to get Notion-like capabilities. I can replace my family Notion with a single Proton Doc with various tabs (at least if Proton makes it easy to export/backup said document - I just posted a feature suggestion about that).
If I imagine using it for business purposes (which is where I currently use Google Docs), support for tabs would be critical to make it a contender now that docs have it. The reason is that lack of better navigational structure has been a problem in Google Docs for years, so although the feature is new, now that it exists it's a major selling point in any comparison with an alternative that does not.
