I still think that this is important. With the possibility of storage space on Proton going up, I don't have the space on my local drive (not drives, because local syncing in the desktop application only works on a single directory, so I'm currently limited to the largest drive I have in a system) to sync the multiple gigabytes (let alone multiple terabytes) of data.
This also would make sense for files that are accessed very infrequently, which I don't need local access to and will just use the web client for.
