    This is a deal breaker for me unless we can use other email clients - pick one and implement it, but refusing to do either makes this service unusable.

    It is unbelievable that the first request for this was back in 2017! As a software engineer, I know this is not a difficult issue to solve, especially considering that if you don't group by conversation, the messages are already sorted the correct way. I can't help but think that the choice to not implement this is ideological or principled, not resources or effort. But when your actions are idealogical without a logical basis to back them up, it becomes just plain stubbornness, and when in the business of providing a service, to think that one size fits all is absurd. This feature is a deal breaker for me considering there is no option to use other mail clients.
