I fully support this idea. From my experience building a kitchen renovation website https://oakvillekitchenexperts.com/, I constantly rely on video walkthroughs and project showcases, and it would be a huge upgrade if Proton Drive files could embed directly into WordPress pages or even Vimeo-style players.
It would be great to also see:
* Direct embed code (iframe or oEmbed support) for Drive videos
* Optimized streaming so videos don’t need full downloads before playing
* Thumbnail previews + custom thumbnails for better presentation on websites
* Bandwidth-friendly adaptive playback for longer renovation videos
* Simple “copy embed link” option right from Proton Drive
* Better support for WordPress blocks so videos can be dropped in like YouTube/VimeoFor content-heavy sites like my kitchen renovation website, this would make Proton Drive much more practical as a real media hosting solution rather than just storage.
I get the frustration around moderation, but I think there’s a key distinction that often gets blurred in these debates. Private platforms aren’t really “public squares” in the legal or operational sense, so some level of moderation always ends up happening, whether it’s spam control, legal compliance, or community rules.
The real challenge, in my view, is less about “censorship vs no censorship” and more about transparency and user control. A system where users can filter what they see (instead of blanket removals) is probably the closest practical compromise we’ll see at scale, but even then, someone still has to define the defaults.
There’s also a business angle people often miss: building and growing any platform today isn’t just about hosting speech, it’s about trust, distribution, and visibility systems that determine what actually gets seen.
I came across an interesting breakdown of how social media presence and trust-building connect in real-world business contexts here: https://skillsheaven.org/social-media-marketing-dubai/
It’s not directly about free speech platforms. Still, it touches on how visibility and credibility are shaped by modern social channels, which ties into the broader discussion of how online ecosystems actually function.
