I will caution that the F-Droid release is significantly outdated.
- F-Droid: v1.2.18-nogms (Mar 31, 2026)
- GitHub: v2.1.5-nogms (Oct 22, 2026)An error occurred while saving the comment

The app is also available for download from F-Droid. Scroll to the bottom of the Proton Lumo download page and expand the FAQ "How to install a (sic) Lumo on Android?"

This is not accurate/true. You can directly download Lumo and you do not need a Google account.
The APKs are available on GitHub.
- Proton Lumo download page: https://proton.me/lumo/download
- GitHub releases page: https://github.com/ProtonLumo/android-lumo/releasesYou can use an app like Obtanium to track/manage/install apps from GitHub.

I would only support this if it is not Chromium-based. Either base it on something like LibreWolf or maybe the upcoming Servo engine. There is no need for the 100th Chromium-browser.
Also, we don't really need new features. We just need a proper org to provide a secure and private alternative to Chromium-based browsers. For example, Firefox (supposedly) needs a lot of work to improve its sandboxing and general security. So, a hard fork of Firefox that focuses on security hardening plus removing the GenAI nonsense would be really nice.

As others have mentioned, just making the apps easily accessible for apps like Obtanium would go a long ways. I prefer direct downloads over F-Droid but F-Droid is a good option for many.

I think Proton could be a possible org that offers some kind of alternative RCS infrastructure. However, I am really not familiar enough with why RCS is really only being offered by Google and Apple in 2026. I think this would require a lot of effort that I'd rather see invested in the existing product offerings.
I do like the idea of being able seamlessly share large files (from Proton Drive) through the messaging app.
I also like the idea of being able to securely share your key material, although I think this is already sort of solved by the protocol used by Signal/WhatsApp/etc.
At the moment, I think that if you want a seamless and platform-agnostic experience that is primarily phone-number based you should use Signal.
