  1. Email download and offline backup

Protonmail should provide a means of downloading emails en masse to an offline backup, perhaps in an encrypted archive that may be decrypted and decompressed into a format that may be read by apps like Thunderbird or Outlook (.pst or .eml).

To prevent freeloading, it can be made available only for paid subscriptions, and to enhance security, it can have encrypted download as a default setting, but it needs to be available. Without that capability, I find it too risky to make Protonmail my primary email.

    • I would like to see cheaper premium plans for basic users

I would like to support Protonmail development with premium subscription. Current plans are however too expensive for basic users.
I would only need basic functionality, with possibility to create email aliases.

Or the other way around, give users possibility to opt out some current features from premium subscription with lesser money.

        • For Business: Send recipient link to PM encrypted portal; recipient sets own password.

PM sends link and allows non-PM email recipient to set their own password on the PM portal. The non-PM email address is the user name. All communication stays encrypted on the PM portal.

The company ZixCorp is doing this with health and financial services. See below example.

          • reveal (do not hide) the real name/address of the sender for email sent through a mailing list

Most email clients will show you the real name and/or email address of the original sender of an email that is delivered to you through a mailing list.
Currently, protonmail only displays the name of the mailing list.
This obscures the identity of the real sender of the email, making it hard to know/understand who sent you the email you're reading.

protonmail has an "unsubscribe" feature for mailing lists so I would assume that protonmail users *do* use mailing lists and would benefit from being able to see who is sending them mail via their mailing list.

            • Add ability to add third party email accounts into ProtonMail mobile client

As far as I understand it is not a trivial task to implement a feature that would allow protonmail account to be added to a third party email client.
What if we can take an opposite approach and add an ability to add accounts from other email providers into ProtonMail client.

                • XMPP Support

Would love to see XMPP supported. It's one of the main reasons I, and probably many others, have not completely migrated over from services such as riseup.

                  • Keep our privacy secure

I don't understand anyone who want Protonmail to use the same tools as Google. Google is a complete security breech and invasion to our privacy. If someone wants these added "conveniences" they should go back to Google. Protecting our privacy isn't always convenient. I chose Privacy over convenience. This is why i chose Protonmail. Protonmail...please don't compromise our privacy and security to be competitive, cutting edge, or convenient. If you can make our email more convenient without compromising privacy than do so. Otherwise, i vote to maintain security and privacy as your number one goal.

                    • Don't time us out when inactivity occurs, without first saving current email in draft folder.

I vote to NOT time us out when inactivity occurs. Yahoo does this, and as a result, i have permanently lost emails upon sending them. Yahoo makes me sign back in without saving the email. This is one of the reasons i switched from Yahoo to Protonmail. If you choose to time us out, then PLEASE send and save current email to the draft folder, before making us sign back in. Sometimes i need to research and look something up in order to respond to an email, this is when Yahoo would time me out.

                      • Exclude user in conversation grouping

When using conversation grouping, the least interesting information is that the user him- or herself participated. I want to see who I am having a conversation with, not that I am having a conversation.
Having my own name first takes up valueable space and may even hide other participants.

It does give one valuable piece of information, though: I, the user, was the last person to say something in the conversation (aka. I have replied) - consider if this can be signalled in a more compact way.

                        • Sending emails from any address@customdomain.com

The catch-all feature released today in v3.10 only makes sense when it's also possible to send emails from any 'address@customdomain.com'. Please give us the option to customize the local part of our 'From'-address directly in the composer. For the IMAP-bridge that will be released in v3.11 please make sure it works with this exact same feature in Thunderbird (first introduced in Thunderbird 45).

                          Why?

Catch-all functionality allows for assigning a new address@customdomain.com for each organisation you are dealing with. Combined with the option to filter on Envelope-To addresses (part of the Sieve filter language also released in v3.10)…

Well, I am developing an OS in conjunction with OSDev Wiki for what need to be highly secured cars boats and planes. So we may want some encryption tutorials or for you all to implement disk encryption and wireless data encryption and stuff like that. analog or digital is cool it needs to be fast though, so maybe it needs to be on its own microchip and ship with the computers? cloud computing as well same deal all shipped with the os and encrypted online storage. thank you a bunch and have fun if you decide to implement this stuff

Well, you have launched your own VPN. Congratulations!
The big problem is that we can't test it.
I have been looking for a VPN which doesn't impact your speed.
We pay a lot of money to have a high internet speed; therefore it is frustrating to see that our bandwidth is halved when not more when we use a VPN.
I have tested either as free or as a subscription many VPN and never found one able to have a decent speed though they all promise that it will be flash speed.
You offer some otions (High and Highest), now…

                                    • Better SSL

                                      Hi.

                                      SSL can be improved (https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=protonmail.ch):

                                      1. Server prefers AES 128, not AES 256. WHY?
                                      2. Only very old OSes like android 2.3 don't support AES 256. It should be at the bottom of prefferences list or even DISABLED.
                                      3. Key exchange - can you use secp384r1 and DH 4096 (for older devices) instead of secp256r1 and DH 2048.
                                      4. Can you enable OCSP Stapling?
                                      5. What about HPKP (even only for root certificate)?

                                      Thanks

                                      • Labels should recognise Unicode (Emoji)

Presently Labels do not distinguish between different emoji when used on their own as a label name e.g. ProtonMail thinks "U+1F436" (puppy face) and "U+1F437" (pig face) are the same!

Labels in ProtonMail need to recognise Unicode!
