  1. Add memo field to Message Details window

    The Message Details window comes up after clicking the three dots directly above a message.

    That window displays :

    Stored with zero-access encryption

    On occasion I need to add a note to my received emails.

    A memo field could be added to that window where the user could add a note like:

    • receipt for my payment for annual fee to xyz org.

    • always respond to John Smith at (email address)

    • tag this acct for problem activity

    • payment up to date as of…

  2. Add a "star" on the desktop toolbar that is visible while reading an email. One has to scroll to the top to add a star or exit & star..

    When I'm reading an email and need to follow up, I have to either scroll to the top of the email so I can click the star on the top right (if it is not visible, i.e., a long email), or exit the email and hope that it didn't get lost in the sea of emails, and then "star" it. The star could be placed next to the "mark as unread" button.

  4. Sieve regex testing

    Provide an interface (as part of filter creation, etc) to test sieve functions, especially regex, against a selection of email or email header input to verify matches.

    This would greatly reduce headache and troubleshooting of filters as emails happen to come into the inbox.

  5. No multiple confirmation messages when deleting several emails

    When deleting several email via the trash button, the same confirmation messages keep appearing multiple times (they stack).

  6. Delete ALL items in folder button

    Currently when you select a folder instead of an individual email, Protonmail shows in the main message screen the name of the folder and the number of emails contained within. There should be a button similar to the "Hide My Email" button that appears when you choose the Spam Folder, that reads DELETE ALL IN FOLDER. This would be much more convenient than the current method and would prevent deleting mail from the wrong folder.

  9. support more flexible and correct formatting in email signatures

    1. PROBLEM: HTML signatures if designed outside of the application have first to be squashed to a single line of HTML, then rendered, then cut-n-pasted into the signature field. You have to squash the HTML code (join the lines) or extra newlines are added throughout the signature when rendered in the composition window. SOLUTION: We shouldn't have to squash the HTML code first before rendering the signature that we then cut-n-paste. Please, Proton should accept the rendered signature as every single browser on the planet renders it.

    2. FlexBox-based designs don't seem to work within Proton signatures. Flexbox makes designing an HTML…

  10. Stand alone contacts

    I would like to have Proton Contacts as my default on our Android phones. I need to open Google contacts to make a call unless I port all my Proton contacts to Google. I'm don't wish to give Google my entire contacts list.

  11. Custom Auto-Delete Settings for Trash & Spam Emails

    Right now, Proton auto-deletes emails in Trash and Spam after 30 days by default. I’d love to see an option to customize this time.

    For example:

    1) Privacy-focused users could set it to auto-delete after 1 day, a few hours, or even immediately (skip Trash).

2) Others might prefer to keep deleted emails for 60 or 90 days, just in case they need to recover something.

    Having this flexibility would give users more control over their privacy and email management.

  13. Allow "From" Email Default to be Blank For New Messages

    Please provide an option that allows the "From" email to be blank for new messages.

    This will reduce the error of sending new messages with the wrong "From" email address because I will have to manually select the correct email address. Otherwise, it is too easy to forget to change the "From" email from the default email to the correct one.

  14. Partial download for mobile devices to speed up response

    Since I moved my (very large) email account from a previous provider, my Proton app on my cell phone has been crawling. I suspect it's looking at every golden message from the past 20 years. (Yes, I need to clean my account up, cf. requests for expiration based on folders). Gmail only allows its client to download recent emails on its mobile app.

  16. Option to Disable APNs and Use Encrypted Background Updates for Email Notifications (iOS)

    Currently, the Proton Mail iOS app relies on Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) to deliver new email alerts. While convenient, this introduces a third-party dependency that can potentially compromise privacy.

    I suggest adding an option — similar to what the Session messenger app offers — to disable APNs and instead enable encrypted background polling for new emails. This would allow the Proton Mail app to periodically check for new messages in the background, without involving Apple’s servers.

    This feature would give privacy-conscious users more control over their data and reduce reliance on Apple infrastructure for private communications.

  17. Auto Public Key Lookup for External PGP Emails

    Please consider adding support for automatic public key lookup (e.g., via WKD or keyservers) when sending encrypted emails to non-ProtonMail users. This feature would reduce manual key exchange steps and make it easier to securely communicate with external PGP users — similar to how tools like Mailvelope handle it.

  18. Option to Remove "Version: ProtonMail" Line in PGP Messages

    Currently, ProtonMail includes a Version: ProtonMail line in the header of PGP-encrypted emails. While this is technically harmless, it reveals the encryption tool used. For users who prioritize maximum anonymity, an option to disable or omit this line would be a valuable privacy enhancemen

  20. Protonmail requires much better editor function (e.g. multilevel indenting is poor).

    This has been requested hundreds of times. We are paying for security of a comparable mail service platform. Your inline editing funciton is a decade behind the times. PLEASE fix this.
