Dark Mode for Emails (not just the UI)
When setting dark mode in Protonmail, White email backgrounds look weird. The dark themes can be more consistent with dark email backgrounds.

I really want to completely move from gmail to protonmail, but finding this very issue my biggest and most critical sticking point.
Most of the emails I'm interested in actually reading are filled with rich images and lots of text. I find it REALLY difficult to read anything on white backgrounds. My computer, phone, and any other device is dark or night mode at all times, even during high noon.
Please implement this in: emails, email composer, and in the desktop and phone apps. Thank you so much!

please implement this, the white email background is blinding my eyes. i have been using gmail on browser with dark reader for years and it looks really nice together
and i find it extremely difficult to actually use proton mail to read emails because some emails are like flashbang to my roomcrazy that this post is already 4 years old, any update?

I am using Thunderbird more exactly for this reason. Would rather be using Proton Mail desktop app instead.

i wonder if its difficult b/c after decryption they have to override the styles and adjust images, its not trivial, but I want this prioritized!!!!

I feel like this should be a priority, it is blinding users. I use my PC a lot at night, and that bright white is going to keep me wide awake and unable to sleep when I finally decide to.
It was an oversight to let this even occur. Maybe Proton will make up for it by making it a priority.

Microsoft Outlook can do this, ProtonMail should be able to.

In browsers, it can be fixed by extensions like Styles. But why hasn't it been fixed yet? The desktop app doesn't have the temporary fix like the browsers.

Blinded by the white email background with everything else in dark mode is like staring up at the sun after walking out of a cave. No me gusta

Hmmm. I can't seem to enable dark mode for the Desktop app in Linux. I haven't found any menu option for it at all. It will only go into dark mode if I switch my entire KDE desktop mode - this is NOT what I want/need. I much prefer when apps themselves can be switched between light and dark modes.

I have to put my voice in here as well. Email content is dark on the apps but it's blinding on the desktop app which is where it needs to feel the comfiest.

I went to try the new desktop app, and this was the first issue I found. So frustrating to have dark mode on every part of the UI but the email body.

I agree this makes using Proton Mail really frustrating

Please add this. It is jarring to have an all-dark theme and then show a full-white body. Not standard UI

To be concise, do you mean that the background of the body field, of the email, and the text during composition should match the selected theme?
If so, I concur, because the theme "Monokai" is already synthwave awesome... It'd be even more awesome if the background was dark blue and the text was pink.
However, if you mean that all incoming emails should be changed to match our selected theme, I would have to disagree.
Although, if there was an option to view all incoming emails as plaintext, and that option served as a requirement to view all emails in the selected theme, that would be fantastic.
