Hide some default folders (e.g. drafts, spam...) from the sidebar
I would like to have an option to hide some of the default folders from the side bar and put them under a "more" drop-down menu or something similar. And an option to re-order default folders would be nice as well.
Secondly, most of the time I don't want to see messages I've deleted, in the "All mail" folder. A toggle to show and hide trashed emails would be great.
You can hide folders you don't use often in the web version of Proton Mail. Expand the "More" section and drag them here.
We've also planned to let you hide spam and trash emails from All Mail.

Any news on this??
It would be great to have a Settings option (for both the web and mobile apps) that controlled the folder view as to whether they are expanded or collapsed. This could be three options:
All folders expanded (default) -- this is the way it works now.
All folders collapsed -- you could see you top level folders but everything underneath would be collapsed.
Remember previous state -- ProtonMail remembers exactly what folders were expanded/collapsed from your last session.

A quick fix I found is deleting the side bar div tag using Inspector in your browwser's dev tools. A hacky solution that does not stay if you close the tab but I defiantly enjoy the view better than before.
I agree to have the possibility to hide default folders we are not interested to use (like starred, archive etc..) in order to get more space in the left column, or just put them under an option called MORE.
Keep going with the great job PM team!
Heartily endorse this! We use our custom folders regularly … that’s why we made them in the first place … but not the default folders. A drop down menu for these would facilitate accessing custom folders without having to scroll down almost every time we want to get to a custom folder.
It would also be great if we could collapse parent folders from wherever we see them (in e-mail or in settings). For example, a Clients folder will be toward the top of my alphabetized folder list (unless there’s a way to rearrange folders, which I have yet to discover). If I have 30 clients, I will have to scroll down, down, down every single time I want to access a folder below. A cumbersome bummer.
Thank you for continuing to develop this application.
Great idea. If you've added lots of personal folders + subfolders to Protonmail there's a lot of scrolling that has to happen in the left sidebar. Anything to make this area more compact is going be useful.
Yes please! I love using folders to sort my mail, but it's kind of annoying to have to scroll the sidebar up and down to switch between Inbox and folders. Honestly I rarely need to view any of those options other than Inbox so they are just hogging a lot of space! Perhaps the options menu could allow users to toggle which ones are shown or hidden?
I like this suggestion! Two much space is used with default folders. In fact, you could put Drafts, Sent, Starred, Archive, Spam, Trash, and All Mail... under "More". This way, the user added Folders would come up into view from the bottom of the screen. I use these folders FAR MORE than the folders mentioned above. Thanks. I love the Beta version!

It would be nice to have the ability to tailor the app based on how each individual prioritizes certain mailboxes and additionally, hide other mailboxes that are not of use.
Like in Gmail, hide the Spam folder behind a fold-out menu which I have to select/clock manually to see. I like to pretend the spam folder doesn't exist since I can't outright stop spam from showing up while it empties mail older than 30 days (15 days or less or an option for custom time frame for me) behind the scenes.
