it would be great to select one by one with command, or shift to click the first and the last and select them all

I know this functionality exists when you shift-click on the check box, but I feel like shift-clicking anywhere else on the email entry should have the same effect as the action is non-ambiguous.

Guys, I asked them and this is actually implemented! It's just a bit convoluted. Here are the instructions:
1. Select a message. - not just by opening it, but by actually ticking it.
2. Shift+Click on the message up to which you want to select. - again, your click needs to be on the tick box, not just on the message, as that doesn't work.

It's insane that when I want to delete the 100 daily emails I receive, I have to tick them one by one instead of simply shift-click once at the bottom.

This does seem to work in the Beta version, though I wonder why it's limited to the checkboxes? I should be able to just have the email focused and click anywhere in the list, like pretty much every other computer interface I've used.

This works at least in the Beta version for browsers.

it's possible to select multiple emails by using the check box to the left of the message. you can click on multiple ones at once and then click the delete button for example.

yes this was a bad/silly change to email management. I have looked for keyboard shortcuts or anything that would enable this...

I also cannot select multiple emails using Shift+click... this is strange considering every other email client I've ever used allows this. Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo... you name it, in the browser or as an app.

I am an avid user of keyboard shortcuts and would love to have the ability to select an email and then be able to hold Shift and press up/down arrows to select several emails at once.
