1. Calendar Auto-number recurring event titles (e.g., “Event 1, 2, 3…”)

   I’d like Proton Calendar to support auto-numbering (or title templating) for recurring events, so each occurrence can have a unique title without manually creating separate events.

   Problem

   Right now, recurring events keep the same title for every occurrence. For workflows like weekly meetups or lessons, this makes it hard to track progress at a glance.

   Example

   Create one recurring event with a base title like:

   Event {#}

   Then the generated occurrences would show:

   Event 1

   Event 2

   Event 3
   …and so on.

   Suggested implementation

   Add an optional toggle like “Auto-number occurrences” or allow placeholders in the title:

   {#} = occurrence number (starting at 1)

   (optional extras) {date}, {weekOfYear}, etc.

   Notes / edge cases

   If one occurrence is deleted/canceled, numbering should stay stable (or offer a “renumber future occurrences” option).

   Editing one instance should keep its custom title (do not overwrite).

   This feature is fully local/metadata-only and shouldn’t affect encryption/privacy.

   Why it matters

   This would save time and improve clarity for:
   weekly meetups, classes, therapy sessions
   sprint reviews, pay-period check-ins
   recurring tasks where sequence matters.

2. Added a simple option to make emails unreadable by AI

   I heard about a great tool on GitHub that simply makes text unreadable by AI: gibberify by Will Patti (wdpatti).
   The tool is available at this address: https://github.com/GeneploreAI/gibberifier
   I think it would be great to integrate this into Proton Mail so that text can be made unreadable with a single click.

3. iOS shortcut for sending an email

   It should be possible to automate proton email sending via iOS shortcuts app in the same way as it works for the Apple Mail app.

   Example workflow:
   1. Select Files — lets the user pick one or more files.
   2. Send Email — prefilled like:
   • Body text: “Hello, here’re my attachments:” and then an embedded File token (the file(s) selected above).
   • Fields in the action header: with Subject and to Recipients (both are parameter “chips”).
   • Extra fields shown:
   • From: (optional)
   • Cc: (email addresses)
   • Bcc: (email addresses)
   • A toggle: Show Compose Sheet (checked), meaning it will open the composer UI instead of silently sending.

   1) Shortcuts actions (must-have)

   Action: “Send Email (via )”
   • Inputs
   • To (list of email addresses or contacts)
   • Subject (text)
   • Body (text; supports inserting variables/tokens from previous steps)
   • Attachments (0..n files; accepts Shortcuts “File” type and multiple selection)
   • Cc (list)
   • Bcc (list)
   • From Account (optional; select from configured accounts/aliases)
   • Show Compose Sheet (boolean; default true to match screenshot)
   • Behavior
   • If Show Compose Sheet = true: open your app’s composer prefilled; user can edit and hit Send.
   • If Show Compose Sheet = false: send silently in the background (or fail with a clear error if iOS disallows in that state).
   • Outputs
   • Result (success/failure)
   • Message ID (if available)
   • Error (human-readable + a code for automation handling)

   Action: “Compose Email” (optional but nice)
   • Always opens composer, returns draft id.

   2) Attachment handling
   • Accept multiple files from “Select Files” and attach all.
   • Preserve file names + MIME types.
   • Support common types: PDF, images, video, ZIP, text, Office docs.
   • Handle large files:
   • configurable limit + clear errors
   • optional “upload link instead of attach” mode (if your app supports it)

   3) Recipient + address resolution
   • Allow recipients from:
   • raw emails
   • Contacts
   • lists passed in from earlier Shortcut steps
   • Validate addresses; fail gracefully with which address is invalid.

   4) Account / identity selection
   • From maps to:
   • chosen mailbox (IMAP/SMTP account) or
   • alias identity (Reply-To / Sender if supported)
   • If not provided: use default account.

   5) UX parity with Shortcuts “chips”
   • Parameters must appear as editable token fields in Shortcuts (like “Subject”, “Recipients”, and the File token embedded in the body).
   • Support variable insertion in body/subject (e.g., file name, date, clipboard text).

   6) Reliability + privacy
   • Clear permission prompts (Contacts access only if needed).
   • No sending until user explicitly allows silent sending (or require compose sheet).
   • Don’t retain attachments beyond sending unless user opts in.
   • Return deterministic errors so automations can branch (e.g., “NoAccountConfigured”, “Offline”, “AuthExpired”, “AttachmentTooLarge”).

   7) Platform implementation notes (so it actually works)
   • Implement via App Intents (so actions show up in Shortcuts properly).
   • Support running while locked where possible (otherwise explain limitation via error + suggest compose sheet).

4. Birthdays in another colour

   I see Proton now shows the birthdays of my contacts in calendar. Great!

   I'd love to be able to mark these with a different color or symbol, so birthdays stand out from 'normal' appointments. E.g. in Outlook you could choose any colour you want (because the birthdays are shown as a separate calendar). Plus, they would be marked with the icon of a birthday cake.

5. Expand subfolders during drag and drop in Proton Mail web interface

   1. When dragging and dropping a message in the Proton Mail web interface, hovering on a folder/label with nested subfolders/sublabels for more than a threshold period (eg 500ms) should expand the immediate child subfolders. Folder tree should stay expanded after releasing mouse.

   2. Support dragging and dropping of existing folders/labels to create nested subfolders/sublabels.

6. Remove 'Human Verification' from after login screen

   Am I the only person who gets disgusted having to pause my workflow in order to move a little puzzle piece around a screen to ''verify I am human'? Who even asked for this? These always seem more like a humiliation ritual than an actual security feature. I already get notifications sent to my mobile app after every login, and feel more than comfortable with the current level of 'verifcation', thank you. This seems especially egregious for those of us who are paid or business users. Please - PLEASE - remove.

7. Send as address to be custom relay domain

   There is a possibility add an email address for custom domain in case the user owns it (business domain).

   I am using a eternal email relay address provided by non-profit student organization. It has an email address which I can forward to any email provider I want. The service itself doesn't have any mailboxes.The incoming mail forwards just fine to Proton Mail. I would like to also send emails using this relay email address as "from" address. This is not possible currently as I don't own the domain.

   I could set up this sending address in Gmail but now that I want to fully transfer to Proton and have paid for the subscription, this lack of feature is really troublesome.

   There is a possibility add an email address for custom domain in case the user owns it (business domain).

11. hover shows actual email address

    Proton Mail used to display the email address of the sender when hovering over the sender's name in a list. This features seems to have disappeared !
    
    It is especially useful when an email appears which could be spam with a faked FROM name to show the FROM address. Then you can see Amazon / Ebay/ PayPal / YourBank is actually lyingthievingspammer@123456.co.jp or whatever.

    Another post mentions similar about links.

    This is a really useful feature.
    Bring it back ! Pleeeeease !

12. Move setting and contact options to top

    Can we have the option to display the settings/contacts/subscriition/report a problem menu items to the top above inbox and folder list. I have a lot of folders and it’s a bit annoying to have to scroll down several pages to get to my contacts

    Proposal I suggest adding a "Temporary Bundle" feature to group related emails from different senders into a single, named container that can be dissolved later. This fills the gap between permanent folders and automatic threads.

    Key Use Cases:
    Transactions: Grouping order confirmations, bank receipts, and shipping notices from different sources without creating a unique folder for every purchase.
    Short-Term Projects: Collecting scattered emails for research, event planning, or coordination tasks that don't warrant permanent archiving.

    How It Should Work:
    Create a named bundle (e.g., "Pool Order" or "Event Planning").
    Drag emails from various threads into it.
    Tag items individually within the bundle.
    Dissolve: When finished, easily move specific emails to permanent folders (or delete them) and close the bundle, leaving no temporary clutter behind.
    Benefit This would streamline workflows for active, short-term tasks while keeping the inbox and folder structure clean.

14. List all my mails

    In the Mail website, under the user button in the upper right, all of my identities should be listed for easy copying instead of just the primary identity.

    Digging out my secondary emails is a bit of a hassle rn

16. Mail and Calendar view both simultaneously. /ProtonMail-desktop.deb

    Find it inefficient to constantly switch between Mail and Calendar within the same window when need to view both simultaneously.
    ie. you can't have distinct, separate windows for Mail and Calendar open at once. I guess its not suited to multi monitor setup ATM.

17. Easy Switch has been running and blocking client UI for 2 hours. This should be a background task that doesn't block the UI.

    Easy Switch is great - easy migration from Outlook, Google, etc. It's a classic playbook for a disrupter to make it super easy to migrate from the existing solutions. However the implementation seems to be running this client side and the effect is that a modal dialog has been up for nearly 2 hours as it migrates data. Anything taking longer than a minute or so should probably be a background task rather than blocking UI.

18. Alternating row color in inbox

    Also known as zebra stripes. Title says it all. Looking to see where I can enable interchanging the background row colors between two colors (white and grey).

    Simple theme change to help with readability or accessibility. Pretty commonly implement in many operating systems and other products.

19. Turn newsletters into RSS feeds

    I really enjoy the new newsletter menu! A neat feature for this would be the ability to turn those newsletters into RSS feeds, so I can then easily read my newsletters in my favourite RSS reader.

    This is my idea how that could be implemented:
    There's a button to generate a dedicated alias that I can use to subscribe to a newsletter (similar to aliases for generating log in details in Proton Pass). Instead of landing in my inbox, the mails arrive in the feed. As soon as that alias was generated I also get a link that I can easily paste into my RSS reader.

    That feature would not just de-clutter my inbox, but also creates more flexible ways to read and manage newsletters.

20. Calendar : Keep order of events that happen at the same time

    We used our Gmail Calendar for events at our store and have recurring event.
    If possible these should stay in the same alphabetical or numeric order if date and hour are not changed.
    So if we have events in the same time frame like a couple of events from 12:00 - 16:00 on the same day and we name them 01, 02, 03 and so on they should remain in that order even if we change something like putting extra text behind the number.
