Linux Client
Proton Drive really needs the ability to sync desktop files automatically. This post focuses on a Linux client for Proton Drive.

Please create a Linux app for Proton Drive, specifically a .deb app. Drive is far less useful without syncing.

Lack of a Linux client has me considering a downgrade in my subscription and instead paying Mega.nz since they have a working desktop client for Linux and E2EE.

I just switched from gmail to proton mail (unlimited) and I plan to switch from google drive to proton drive as well. As I use Android & Linux it would be great to have a linux client for proton drive, with automatic backup function of selcted folders.

I am currently running Linux as a main system, still have windows hanging around for some things, for one a proper proton drive client. Please make a proton drive client for Linux.

I am switching to Linux very very soon and looking at program compatibilities. Yes, it appears one can use rclone, but it also appears that that solution can stop working at any moment. For using this as a private and secure cloud, it needs to be fully supported on all distros of Linux. Until this happens, I would say Proton is not serious about privacy nor security. Sorry, but AFAIK Linux is difficult with Gaming, Design, and now apparently Proton. How strange and ironic.

3625 votes, 900 comments, and not even a 'planned' tag is disturbing.

I'm considering either NextCloud or another linux-friendly option. Proton Drive works great for backing up things from my OnePlus 9 phone, but for my linux desktop and two laptops, I'm using local USB drives for backup. This needs to happen! I may switch my plan back to just Mail Plus at the end of the current cycle. Please, Proton - make a Drive Client for Linux!!

Last time I heard about any update was on this interview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp7ght2fMR4&t=2756sAnd after 1 year still no info, timeline or roadmap...
This is a big deal and if, by the end of my current subscription in 2026, there's still nothing, I won't renew and switch to Linux friendly alternatives.

This is getting to be a deal breaker for me. I already switched back to BitWarden because ProtonPass does not come up on the keyboard in Iphone when I need it to, The servers in the USA are way too full, and this is the most expensive VPN service on the internet. Not I lost my disk partition and nothing was backed up.

Wow. No. 2 most voted ask from the Proton team and nothing for years. But we are releasing widgets for iOS?

Any word on if this is being worked on? I would love to use a raspberry pi to automatically backup files from my nas to proton drive. Doing this with 3rd party apps on windows is janky, requires the files to be installed on the PC, and I don't wanna buy a mini pc with 500 GB just for this.

Definitively thumbs up, but please either do also .rpm or if complicated to manage then flatpak

I am a Proton Family user. Due to the lack of proper Linux Desktop integration (which should happen through official flatpak and snap packages) neither me nor my family members use Proton Drive at it's full potential.
While I can bear the workaround going through the browser, my less Linux-adept family members can not. -

Very important to us. This Linux client is the last thing to get to fully quit Dropbox or other GAFAM drive.

It would be super useful, I’d like to stop using the cloud with the Mega app and use only Proton!!!

I've just bought a Mail Plus subscription and the only thing stopping me from making it Unlimited is the lack of a client for Linux.

An application like they have on windows needs to happen. The singular biggest disappointment of my pretty expensive subscription. The native Linux tools just aren't as slick. For a company that focuses on privacy, why is this OS the last one out the door.

Either that or let us use an FTP client. Filezilla will work for me.
