For Proton Business customers this is most likely a very important feature as this is included in most other 'Business suite' SaaS software on the market.

In my opinion, Proton should also package it's Linux clients using the common Linux universal apps standards like Flatpak, Snap and AppImage.
Supporting package manager formats of specific distribution families like is mostly convenient when they are delivered through the distribution's package repositories.

Ideally, it should be available as Linux universal app (Flatpak, Snap, AppImage) in order to cater as many distributions as possible.

I am a Proton Family user. Due to the lack of proper Linux Desktop integration (which should happen through official flatpak and snap packages) neither me nor my family members use Proton Drive at it's full potential.
While I can bear the workaround going through the browser, my less Linux-adept family members can not.

Proton's VPN is a significant part of my paid plan's value proposition.
As other services adapted to higher traffic analysis capabilities of adversaries and have heavily invested in research, even Proton's more secure 'Secure Core' technology feels very 'legacy' compared to the more advanced solutions that others have already mentioned here.

As mentioned in the previous update on this feature, it is now being edited to be a request for slides.
Please feel free to undo your vote if this is not something you want included in Proton Drive.

At this point I become increasingly frustrated that this issue has not been adressed yet.
Much smaller projects manage to maintain the whole variety of Linux universal apps (Flatpak, Snap, AppImage). Unofficial packages provided by some community members show that it is easily possible; due to software supply chain security risks official apps would be much more appreciated.
From Proton's perspective it may impose a risk being falsely afiliated which some unknown party who maintains these inofficial packages. Some apps can be used as browser app, but especially for Proton Drive proper desktop integration is needed.
While frustrated about it, personally I find my way around it. People in my Family account, people I have recommended Proton to and some Business contacts I have can not.
I know/ maintain Linux PCs for a lot of "Noobs" who would require a more seamless integration, because they would start to bother me, if I would recommend it to them and the experience would be bad or unstable. Besides Flatpaks I would also argue for Snap packages as Ubuntu is still a valid choice for "Noobs" as well as Businesses.

I agree that this is important. While PGP is Proton's choice for good reasons, S/MIME is much more commonly used with Businesses and in the Enterprise.
Leaving the authenticity that valid S/MIME signatures provide on the table, would be a little negligent.
