Drive Linux
Please please release a linux sync client. I am a paying user and this entire feature is almost completely unusable for me. Please remind yourself where you come from and release also features for the community that supports you from the early proton times!

It would be nice if it's implemented via exposing a WebDAV bridge endpoint and register it into the system, since it will automatically enable integration with other applications in the system using the standard XDG file chooser portal (https://flatpak.github.io/xdg-desktop-portal/docs/doc-org.freedesktop.portal.FileChooser.html)

rclone is not a real 100% solution to this for linux and Proton should absolutely be expected to be held responsible for providing a linux functioning version. Recent Fedora adopter and really disappointed that Proton seems to sweep this under the rug and ignore its users requests for it. Making me seriously reconsider the entire Proton platform.

How you handle this feedback forum is trust shattering.
The original suggestion had 6000+ votes. It never received any official acknowledgement in the forum but got set to "needs approval" instead (including hiding it from "top" suggestions even when it was available).

Yes, development is a challenge and complex. But it's also obvious that the business focus lies somewhere else and the scarce resources are spent on shipping different product features first - ignoring (or at least de-prioritizing) user feedback.
Edit: They have now deleted the 6.000+ votes post. Seriously dishonest. Whoever runs this forum should be held accountable.

I have been using Proton Mail and Proton Calendar for years. I would very much like to be able to say goodbye to google drive. This is the last hurdle for me to say good bye to google forever.

Sync app for Fedora Workstation is currently not available to automatically update Proton Drive. Proton Drive does not offer a native Linux desktop client as it does for Windows and MacOS. It will be great to have a local app for Linux systems that is able to set up auto sync to Proton Drive.

Except for the obvious part of creating a client that does not require command line or GUI interface. As long as you set it up, set up a config file similar to the FStab and put it to a Mount point that all the other interfaces can see.
All the major graphical interfaces will auto mount or show every device that is already mounted by Linux. -

Windows, Android and iOS Drive clients have existed for 2 years now but these are single operating systems - unlike Linux, which encompasses multiple packages, libraries and desktop environments. I think people are forgetting that developing a general Linux client essentially means developing a client across multiple operating systems, all of which are consistently changing. So it only makes sense to get the easier developments out of the way first. I can't imagine Proton is overflowing with people to work on this one project among their entire suite. This is one of a multitude of tasks they are managing, all while maintaining high standards of encryption and privacy on top of all of that, far and above any other company. People need to understand the absolute undertaking of these logistics before making convenient criticisms.

Please avoid AppImage or Flatpak so that if dependent program has a bug or security issue found, I can update or recompile that dependency instead of having to wait for Proton to recompile the entire AppImage or FlatPack.
I'm always worried about my app images or flat packs becoming zombies and not receiving timely updates. -

Implement it, but please use AppImage or Flatpack.

This absolutely needs to be a thing. As Linux is winning more and more market share and is the more privacy friendly alternative to Windows and macOS, this should be a priority for Proton.

They seem to have removed the original post that had nearly 6000 votes (https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/932839-proton-drive/suggestions/45271456-linux-client)
Trying to hide behind feigned ignorance, as if we hadn't already posted about this very topic.
Get a Linux client done, ffs!

Long-time paying customer here.
Six years since this feature was first requested (in a different thread that Proton has chosen to bury -- out of shame and embarrassment, I presume), we are told there may be a Proton Drive client for Linux this year. (Or maybe next, because who really knows?)
The Drive for Linux debacle has been, in turns, frustrating, dispiriting, infuriating, and insulting. But if we are finally inching toward a native Linux sync client, then there is maybe a light at the end of the tunnel.
In the meantime, I have been researching alternatives. Proton is definately the big dog here, but a satisfactory constellation of companies can be used to put together something similar: Tuta for mail and calendar; Mulvad for VPN; Bitwarden for passwords; pCloud, Tresorit, Filen and others for SYNCHRONIZED CLOUD STORAGE FOR LINUX. That's about all of Proton I use and so all I need to replace. Proton lock-in is a golden cage -- when the ecosystem gives you everything you want, there's no need to leave. But when there is an absolutely huge omission -- Drive for Linux is the single largest -- then alternatives start to look better and better.
Come on, Proton. Do better!

There "used to be" a post with >5k votes, that now is "under moderator review"...
https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/932839-proton-drive/suggestions/45271456-linux-clientWhich means that this issue here has close to 7'000 votes!
Com'on Proton!
It's probably the single most ever voted request for Drive.
Why you keep make us waiting??
This doesn't show a lot of care for the community. -

The web interface to Proton Drive needs to be improved as well. With no Resume function, and no report on failures of transfers, no working progress bar, and generally, a poorly designed web interface for the storage, the web interface for Proton Drive needs improvement as well. So far, the best storage option for linux users is Koofr.net. It is next to impossible to see whether the web application is still doing anything or not, and Firefox keeps on complaining that the web interface for Proton Drive is slowing down Firefox.

Completely agree.
Unlimited is so pointless without the drive space working, and the web interface for drive does not support Resume, unlike Zmodem on 300 baud modems from 40 years ago.

At this point I have been paying for my proton account for years and expecting that they will get a drive app on linux soon but it have been over half a decade and nothing... I should probably move to Tuta at this point will be faster for them to built a linux app.

I too with Joe F highlight this phrase which I remember had an impact on the choice of Proton now more than 2 years ago.
"A team of scientists who met at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) decided to build a better internet where privacy is the default" Windows and MacOS do not have privacy as part of their mission statements, Linux is the preferred platform for those that care about privacy.
> > > Italiano < < <

Not having a linux based application is ridiculous.

I find it humorous that the Spring/Summer ‘26 roadmap announcement included this attempt at a sentence tacked on at the end of the Proton Drive section: “We’ll also working on the highly anticipated Linux app.”
Once again, Proton Drive on Linux is only a footnote to all the other exciting development.
