At least let us import from the ssd or current folder from proton drive itself

Completely agree with all the other postings: the Photos feature in Proton Drive is effectively useless. Until they have fixed it I will keep using OneDrive and Apple Photos.

So I have just had to
1. select and download all my photos from the files section in proton drive
2. unzip them
3. import them into photos section of proton drive
4. reselect the photos in the files section
5. delete them
6. then find, select and delete them from my computer.

seems rather clumsy and unnecessarily complicated. I understand it takes time to perfect this functionality but I wonder how long?

It may have been quicker if we had a Linux client for drive?

I don't care either way if my photos can live in both areas. I just want to be able to move into photos and drive and vice versa so that I can categorize and share my photos the way that I want to.

I absolutely despise the current implementation of Photo backups, there is zero good reason to keep them in this entirely separate space that is inaccessible from the standard file space. I'm fine with it being a logical overlay to the raw files or a viewer of sorts, but having it be entirely locked away into it's own file space was a horrible design decision that needs to be fixed.

I can't believe that I can't copy or move photos uploaded to Proton Drive to Proton Photos. This is a very basic and critical feature!

I think moving photos and videos from My Files to Photos section is not the answer. What we really need is Photos section to be able to see photos and videos in My Files! Preferrably we should have the ability to choose what folders are included in Photos section.
This is quite unbelieveable how badly this Photos feature has been implemented. I moved from Onedrive to Proton and have been shocked since then how bad photo and video gallery feature has been in Proton Drive. Pretty much useless! Please fix this!

Without this feature I cannot use Photos.

Use case: I need to be able to share photos with clients via a public link and the Photos app doesn’t support that (mindblowingly bad product management decision). The only option is then keeping them in the Drive where public link sharing is available, but because thumbnails are not generated properly there, clients cannot preview images fast without downloading them in full. All of this prevents me from managing photos on Proton. The inability to view photos in both modes is a major blocker. The inability to view albums as folders and to move photos from existing drive on the server is a major blocker for adoption as well. This feature needs proper design and PMing, it feels like an afterthought as of now.

Most other (Android) apps allow "sharing" of photos with the Drive app. This end up as a file in "My Files" and then there is then no way to move them to the "Photos" part of Drive.

I have upvoted this post to encourage the team to develop functionality to view all media uploaded to Drive Photos within Drive Files as folders.

The use case to support this is where images captured on mobile devices need to be disclosable as evidence in investigations.

PC apps extract file metadata from cloud sync local storage for chain of custody records, but without a local or even cloud sync of the media files themselves, and without Drive Photos filters (e.g. hides duplicates), correctly timestamped files cannot be included in LOAD structures or reorganised with metadata preservation using apps like TeraCopy.

Please provide a feature to expose the Drive Photos cloud storage volumes as a folder tree, share, or other group visible within Drive Files on Web and via Drive sync apps on devices.

How is this not core feature already? I just opened the photos tab to see what the hype is about and to organize my photos into albums, but the photos in my Drive are not there? So what exactly is the point of the having the “Proton Photos” as a feature of Proton Drive if it cannot access the photos in the Drive? Is it meant to be a stand-alone service? Very counterintuitive and frustrating.

... and vice versa to allow to manipulate the picture files (e.g. download, organise, rename, delete) from within the drive. Otherwise, pictures are just locked in the Photos space and I cannot download them for backup and simply organising on my Synology for instance.

I switched from Google Apps for Business and exported my Photos there, but now i have those from my phone, which reach some 5 years back, and folder with the same contents plus 15 years, so there's duplicates, two locations with two different featuresets, and no idea how to get data in ONE SINGLE LOCATION to manage it there. Please get this one going.

We should be able to set any folder to be visible in the photo view.
Also be able to download all pictures easily, like any other folder

I really don't understand the approach taken here. Why doesn't it work like nextcloud, where one can auto-upload whatever folder and file types one wants from the app? How on earth are photos not files?

I would rather like to see an implementation where the files can be stored in the drive and it can be set (example for each directory) whether the images contained should also be displayed under the photos view.
There is currently no way to export the images again. This is an indispensable function for every photo lover. With the Proton Drive app, only files in the drive can be uploaded and downloaded efficiently. This functionality is not available for images.

The current version also does not have a function for albums. So we need a way to organize the photos. Which would be possible using folders in the Drive.

This is critical feature which seems to be missed in implementation, can we have this please.

It is amazing to me that this photo section is not just a view showing only photo files for easy access. Never in a 1000 years I would have thought that Photos and My files somehow are different types of storage.
We need a way to see photos in the photos section as files.
