Proton Docs / collaboration suite
(folders and docs similar to GoogleDocs)
Proton mail needs some collaborative word processor and spreadsheet in a drive where people can securely work on it but only the person who owns the files can keep them and no one can download them or copy them.
Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

This would be great as I wouldn't have to rely on any other service anymore.
A complete Proton suite of E-mail, Contacts, Calendars and Cloud (with the secure environment we came here for) would be absolutely fantastic. -

That would be great to be able to edit collaboratively some document and to share them with security. Content management and project management would be great too.

I completely agree. This is what I truly need in addition to secure email. While I would love for this to be included in the basic package, I would happily pay for a service like this. Maybe inclusion in the Plus package to cover initial costs of development and support? I'd support a Kickstarter/Indie Gogo campaign as well.

Spideroak. It was even recommended by snowden (2013 or so?)

i use spideroak. it was recommended by snowden years ago and works fine for sync. it´s also zero-knowledge.
honestly i would it more to see the protonmailteam collaborate with spideroak than creating their own thing... you can´t build the best of every solution, just get someone who is already doing it fine and work with them. :P

This a thousand times over! Email is a tremendous step forward for security. But it only facilitates the secure flow of information. Which for a vast majority involves documents (Pdfs, Word, Spreadsheets, etc). Being able to interact with this and send them securely would help the minimalist transition from Google. Obviously, having a mobile app as well. This function needs the love and would really help protonmail grow from individual users and business.

There should be a way to drop large files into someone's account. I suggest that there would be a "Google Drive" like service with collaboration; each file would count towards the user's storage limit, but each file would be encrypted with a random key (probably AES - 256) which would be shared to other users accounts when the owner wants to collaborate through a specially marked PGP message, keeping everything end-to-end encrypted. I don't know how to secure unlisted files (most likely used for secure images); maybe a hash table, that gets accessed and decrypted client-side.
Generally, a file storage system will make Proton Mail much more enjoyable. -

I would love a open-source cloud storage with end to end encryption, just like ProtonMail is. So far, I have been putting files into a 7z file and then emailing them to myself, but 500mb (free) is too small for large files, like video files.
Also, in case you didn't know by now, Mozilla now owns Pocket and it is open-source now.

Yes, there's Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft Cloud, Mega.NZ, Tresorit, Box.com, and others. Every ProtonMail Premium account would benefit by having its own encrypted file storage with one special nuance: Make sure it is lightning fast and capable of loading extremely content rich files (graphics, photos, alternative text) along with encryption.

I would go so far as to have a stripped down version of a word processing even if it is a simple text based, sure I want a word processing that is very similar to Microsoft Word or Google Doc, but even if it is just a text-based system I will work around it.

I would really enjoy it if ProtonMail have a version like that of Google Drive where I can create and edit my documents, so that I can continue to work regardless where I'm in the world. This is why I'm still heavly relient on Google mainly for the Drive. The two biggest things are the Google Doc and Google Spreadsheet, I want to leave Google for good but I don't really have any options that compare to Google Drive. Thanks! I love the service

The cloud exists for one reason only. To give someone else access to your data. DON'T create a cloud. Instead, create a heavily encrypted sync service. This will be much cheaper to host. In fact it might not even require hosting. It could all be peer to peer. It would also be easy to develop as open source variants of current such ideas already exist.
