Proton Docs / collaboration suite
(folders and docs similar to GoogleDocs)
Proton mail needs some collaborative word processor and spreadsheet in a drive where people can securely work on it but only the person who owns the files can keep them and no one can download them or copy them.
Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

Hi Proton team,
thanks for your great products.
sorry if this is duplicate, but:
please, please provide public API for the Proton Drive! REST / protobuf or whatever you use inside.
Engineering community would take care about the rest, making the joint effort with Proton team for the Drive to shine!
the FUSE driver, for example, would highly enrich the ecosystem and even more increase your popularity by providing a gate for GUI and / or CLI clients. Number of SaaS could have been built on top of your infra as safe and private data plane.
In case API is there, I would hopefully myself allocate time to write the FUSE driver or, I'm sure community would pick it up.
Best regards,

Thank You PM for beginning to introduce a Drive; but as others have mentioned it hasn't many of the practical features needed for day to day collaborative work.
I'm in favor of there being an alternative so people can cut loose of Google drive (or One Drive) completely.
As it is I will need to continue to keep a gmail account (or one drive for some) in order to share with others the documents we are mutually editing; yet maintain a PM account for a domain email address and the security benefits enjoyed with PM.

Is there an update to a desktop / sync app for protondrive? I see some discussions from a year ago indicating that it was a year away. Would love to consolidate my personal data here but need that sync for the drive.

Not necessary imo. I think this is very out of scope for what Proton Drive needs to be.

This is a daunting task. I already found missing features in Google Docs and I'm not even an advanced spreadsheeter (as a matter of fact, I'm a beginner).
I'd love this, though. I just fear it would end up being a worse contender to Google Docs or something full fledged as Libre Office and you'd end up using one of those anyway.
If they can pull it off, I'd definitely use it! But it has to be compatible with a workflow that mixes between offline, collaboration and different file types etc. It should also be smart and allow for extensions.
What about focusing on the ground work for open source projects? Making the security core and the open source community could create apps and programs like these? Someone mentioned CryptPad. Could this team collaborate with Proton? Or could they fork the project?

I wholeheartedly agree with this suggestion. ProtonDrive is of no use to me unless these apps are developed and made available. This is a shame because I prefer ProtonMail over any other provider and trust them more with the security of my information than I do any other provider out there however it just so happens to be that every other provider except ProtonMail have apps for all their products.

I keep track of my finances on google sheets and use google docs to write/edit papers and now I want to keep track of my tutoring clients. I would like to move all this off of google because I don't trust them with my information. wondering if you could offer a comparable product

I'm not currently a paying customer. I think having a mobile app is pretty essential though. Until that happens I can't seriously consider upgrading.

Currently when a doc file is uploaded to ProtonDrive, we cannot even view its contents. This feature is only supported for PDF files. It would be convenient if we can view and edit document contents in ProtonDrive. This would eliminate the need of a online notepad with security level of ProtonMail.

I would like the ability to sync files across multiple end points.
Also, while I'm here, a feature I would like to see in Proton Calendar is the ability to mask appointments. So others can see what free time slots I have, but not whom my appointments are with.
