Linux Client
Proton Drive really needs the ability to sync desktop files automatically. This post focuses on a Linux client for Proton Drive.

This is the top voted requested for Proton Drive by far, and the second most voted request for any Proton feature after unlimited disposable email addresses. How is it not received any response?

I, along with many other's right now, have made the switch to Linux. For Personal and Work use.
As many in our startup switch to Linux (Fedora 43 KDE Plasma), we wont be able to justify using Proton for much longer without a proper Sync functionality.
Unfortunately, if we dont get an ETA soon (Q1), or an app in the next quarter, we will have to move to a new provider.

I've been missing a Linux client for Protondrive for years. Proper support would be very welcome.
Lumo is now another reason why a Linux client is important. It would make work much easier.
I have an unlimited subscription to Proton. But I won't pay for Lumo until there is a usable Protondrive client for Linux.
And to be honest, I'm considering canceling my unlimited subscription. As a Linux user, we've been strung along for years.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

With Microsoft going fully automatic on their foot, this could be the perfect time to take advantage of users switching to Linux and ensuring they have a relatively seamless migration with their Proton accounts and services. Proton Drive compatibility for Linux is a must.

While this has been the most requested feature for years, Proton has instead developed an AI assistant and a crypto wallet. I think this fact speaks for itself. I take back what I have earlier said about giving the Proton team 6 months. I will start looking for alternatives today.

Basically I need Proton Drive client for Linux to be implemented ASAP or I will have to leave Proton. Migrating my e-mail will be a pain, but it is soon time. I give the Proton team 6 months. I have already waited waaay longer than I ever thought I would have to. I have been a paying customer for many years now. I switched to Proton for the same reason that I switched to Linux: Privacy.
It is more hassle to make Proton Drive work on Liunx (I have not managed it yet) than to just encrypt all my files locally before putting them in my Dropbox. I do this even though I pay for Proton. Conclusion: Proton Drive is a worse private cloud solution than Dropbox for Linux users. When I tell about this to people, they laugh. I don't.

Privacy first, but not support linux version? Sound contradiction.
Now even 3rd extension like `rclone` can't sync any more. -

Windows market share is dropping rapidly now with ads, Copilot, and other slop alienating users across the Microsoft ecosystem. Linux operating systems are becoming more common, even in the Fortune 500 enterprises. Please add appropriate clients to make Linux a first class citizen alongside Apple and Microsoft.
The Proton web app experience is fantastic, but being able to directly save a file to a location that is locally encrypted and synchronized with the Proton Drive cloud would be ideal. Proton could compete with Dropbox and beat other providers such as Box to this growing market of Windows refugees.
Specifically, a desktop app for Fedora, and Debian (e.g., Ubuntu, Mint, Pop!) would be ideal. I'm sure Arch, and SUSE would be great as well but perhaps less common.
I personally am moving over to Fedora (KDE Plasma) away from Win11 and looking to replace Outlook and OneDrive to completely cancel Microsoft from my daily experience.

Kann nicht sein dass Proton Drive nicht auf Linux verfügbar ist. Ich meine wir haben 2026.

I'm really surprised that syncing with Linux is not supported. And even more if I see in this thread that people have been asking for it for years now.
I'm a pretty new proton user, but as I'm using Linux most of the time, this is really upsetting me. -

Would like to use drive, would move me to pay for proton services, but this is the only thing that's stopping me. Going to try pCloud, and will check back in in a couple months before everything gets too locked in.

Since nobody else at Proton appears to be building one, maybe ask Lumo to do the work.

I'm a software developer and I use Linux for everything. I feel like the majority of the people who care about privacy will be the tech-savvy people who use Linux. Hence, I think this feature is super important

You need to release a Linux version of Proton Drive urgently. Ignoring the expansion and adoption of Linux in the current landscape would be a strategic error.

"Unlimited" customer here. I use Linux for home and work.
Please add a Proton Drive Linux client. Similar to "Dropbox for Linux" (which just "works" and is quite unobtrusive). "Proton Drive" has no value for me without Linux support.
This feature has over 5000 votes and 72 pages of comments going back to 2020. From what I can see, this is by far the most requested feature by something like 3000 votes.
Please also consider that more and more people are moving to Linux from Windows (to avoid AI and ads), and towards EU services. Proton Drive is unusable on Linux without a native client able to do background synchronization.
Please make it and maintain it - don't bet on someone else making it once you finish the SDK (https://proton.me/blog/proton-drive-sdk-preview). It's more important than that. :)

To leave Windows entirely this absolutely necessary. For a privacy focused company this should be absolutely obvious

Just signed up for a duo subscription as part of an effort to become less dependent on US solutions which I believe is a common desire for many new Protonmail users.
This ties into a wish to move to Linux (mostly because windows with win11 is deterioating as an OS, but also a dependency on MS), so discovering the lack of Linux support for proton drive is a setback. I'm considering whether to cancel my new subscription. Happy with the solutions overall. -

I have a proton duo account and will definitely LEAVE if there is no linux support within the next year. It is unacceptable for a privacy focused cloud service, at least provide an official API if you don't have the resources for a client right now

Id love a linux native app, cuz sometimes uploading big files from my browser on my unixen pc, fails. I also have pcloud , infomaniak drive, they have Linux client and i never have this sort of problem with them. Also a client with linux means better integration with the distros!. Looking forward to this.
