Linux Client
Proton Drive really needs the ability to sync desktop files automatically. This post focuses on a Linux client for Proton Drive.

As so many others I'm in the transition from Windows to Linux, and I am currently a M365 family subscriber as both me and my wife use it, and in the future my four kids will too. However I would like to break my ties with Microsoft. My plan is first to make a dual boot windows/Linux and then buy Proton ultimate, and once I've transitioned, I will help my wife do the same. However I won't buy Ultimate and start the transition until a Linux client or API is made available. So if you want to have more paying customers, this is a requirement.

Not having Drive for Linux is a gaping hole in the current Proton ecosystem.
However, the recent announcement that Proton is building a Drive SDK is promising.
Please at least focus on getting the API released ASAP, so that others can write their own solutions to interface with Drive in an officially supported manner.

In my opinion, having an official client for Proton Drive would be a major competitive advantage for Proton, especially considering its target audience and the fact that Google and Microsoft currently do not offer official support for Linux. As a result, the community often resorts to alternatives like Dropbox or Mega.nz, just to name a few. Another option has been using unofficial clients, which can pose security risks or significant issues due to lack of maintenance or implementation errors. However, this tends to drive away regular users.
A flatpak client would suit the vast majority of LINUX users.

I see privacy as a whole. Someone who is willing to trade Google Workspace and Microsoft Office for Proton may also want or tend to consider migrating from Windows to Linux. In this scenario, having a Linux client would be natural for Proton. A flatpak, for example, could serve most of the community.

A Proton Drive Linux client would be great.

Please make a Proton Linux Client. I have seen more than one company which seems to forget about the linux user base and being a long time paying Proton Supporter it is really bad that ProtonDrive can not be used with a secure app from Proton.
For what do I need a sync service if it can only Sync to my Smartphone/Tablet but not to my Desktop OS. Make 2025 the year for your linux fan base instead of adding features like document editing etc. which are all not important for us running linux, when we can not get the basic and most important tasks done to put our files from the linux desktop into Protondrive. -

Yes, I would very much like this feature to be available without having to tweak and install 3rd-party applications. I may try Rclone, but I'm reading that people are having mixed success. I was surprised that Proton Drive doesn't have a Linux client as I imagine many privacy-conscious users prefer Linux, as I do. Thank you.

A Proton Drive application or a proper way to use RClone (not working for me now) is desperately needed for Ubuntu/Linux! I'm still using Dropbox for those files I need synced all the time and I have a paid account for Proton!

I desperately need Proton Drive for Ubuntu Linux to completely say goodbye to Dropbox and sync my files to a secure location.

Unlimited plan here. I hope the Proton Drive Linux Client is more stable and less "fragile" than the client for MacOS. I can't speak for the Windows client. The I/O for the MacOS client is terribly slow. The syncing is tenuous and somewhat erratic. I'm using Filen now which works like the Proton client should work. I'm afraid it's going to be a long while before I trust Proton Drive enough to actually use it for much.

This is the only thing stopping me from fully transitioning to Proton.

I really really need this, or at least a documented and supported API so that the wonderful people of rclone can do their magic and make synchronisation with my local files possible. Proton Drive is absolutely useless to me otherwise.

Been a paying customer for over a year. It would be great if you could add Drive support for Linux. Many users have been requesting this feature for the past three years. Thanks!

Only thing stopping me to purchasing proton subscription is lack of drive client for Linux.

I pay for unlimited and don't use Proton Drive at all as I'm a Linux user.
I now use Baikal, Floccus, Webdav and Fossify apps for calendar, tasks, bookmarks and contacts. It ties together nicely in Thunderbird with Proton Bridge.
I can use Fossify Contacts/Phone (F-Droid) on my phone to dial with and address emails. I've been able to cover all the deficiencies. I'm using Seafile for documents and Immich for images. It is possible to be Google free and use Proton Mail on Linux.
I'm planning on downgrading my plan to only Proton Mail as the functionality is insufficient for me unless they surprise me. A Proton VPN linux client with split tunneling, a drive client of course and cli clients. A contacts app for Android would be nice too.
It's Proton's email that is what I want most. Unless there is an comprehensive integrated suite of apps for Linux people won't buy in.

It is exhausting being left behind by a privacy-oriented service while Windows and macOS users get first-class support.
I've been a long-time subscriber (currently Visionary) but I can't justify continued support if my preferred platform doesn't get any love.

This is the main reason I don't use proton drive more. The sync feature would have been really useful. It's a same we can't have it...
