Linux Client
Proton Drive really needs the ability to sync desktop files automatically. This post focuses on a Linux client for Proton Drive.

I have to imagine that there is a large overlap between proton customers and Linux users. I'm floored that there isn't a Linux client yet.

I agree. For now I only use Proton for e-mail, but since everyone else is using Gmail I guess my e-mails are not private. I have separate VPN and cloud providers. I would pay more for Proton if I can share my calendars with family and friends similar to Google calendar, and I would probably upgrade my account if Proton Drive supported Linux 100 %. I think Proton should focus on that (syncing, backing up files, photo album) more than implementing a Google Docs clone.

I will not switch from my current cloud provider until Proton is up to par. That means native support for Linux.
Command line is good enough as long as I can easily get current status and solve potential issues. It must support syncing files from multiple computers to a shared folder, and it must support "snapshots" so I can backup my photos and videos now and then to be 100 % certain I will never lose personal things like these.

Would love this.
Currently the only cloud storage provider I can find who has FOSS client apps for all [major] operating systems (Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, OS X) is Mega.
Would also love for Cryptomator to work well with it, because who doesn't love copious amounts of encryption?

I have dumped One Drive and committed to Proton, it would be nice if Proton could commit to myself and other Linux users in return

I cancelled my subscription. If Linux isn't even on the roadmap, this isn't the home for me.

Utterly crazy (and very disappointing) that Proton Drive is missing a Linux client when Tresorit has had a great Linux client for years. Even more disappointing that Linux wasn't even mentioned on the new roadmap.
This is a critical issue for me, especially as I plan to migrate to Ubuntu from Windows 10 when support ends.

I thought I could finally cancel my Dropbox but not being able to do this in Ubuntu is making me rethink transferring. Anybody who considers digital privacy as important will move to Linux at some point, if they haven't already.

And/or explicitly publish a Proton Drive API repo. This would allow third party developers to support Proton Drive. The rclone linux application is a great exemple, as they state that their Proton Drive support is limited due to this missing API. If Drive's app is open source, this API should be publicly maintained as well.

For everyone waiting or over it, here's some alternatives I guess. I've heard good things about Filen, but I don't really know.
pCloud: A Swiss-based cloud storage service that offers end-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge protocol, and a native Linux client. It provides up to 10 GB of free storage and offers a paid subscription with great storage limits.
MEGA: A cloud storage service that offers end-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge protocol, and a command-line tool for Linux. It provides up to 20 GB of free storage and offers a paid subscription with additional features.
Icedrive: A cloud storage service that offers client-side encryption, zero-knowledge protocol, and a native Linux client. It provides up to 10 GB of free storage and offers a paid subscription with additional features.
Tresorit: A cloud storage service that offers end-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge protocol, and a native Linux client. It provides up to 3 GB of free storage and offers a paid subscription with additional features.
Filen: A cloud storage service that offers end-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge protocol, and a native Linux client. It provides up to 10 GB of free storage and offers a paid subscription with additional features.
Internxt: A cloud storage service that offers zero-knowledge encryption, end-to-end encryption, and a native Linux client. It provides up to 10 GB of free storage and offers a paid subscription with additional features.

I really hope you will release the Linux client soon. You are privacy focused company, it doesn't look good if you don't support privacy focused and open source operating systems.

Official rclone support or a proper Linux application (preferably with a scriptable CLI) would make this so much more useful and would allow me to upgrade to a paid plan.

I'm on an old Mac that is going to be phases out of security updates in a year. Transitioning to linux after this. Last month I got proton for email and drive. If there's no drive app on linux by then I guess I'll cancel.

I now have to run a dedicated Windows file server just to be able to access Proton Drive (via network sharing) from my main PC (which is Linux Mint). That actually works, but it is getting ridiculous. Come on, people. :)
