Proton Drive Integration with Android Default Storage
I haven't yet found a way to set Proton Drive as a default storage location on Android within the "My Files" functionality which drives selectable save options for most file save actions. Obviously, Google Drive is available along with MS OneDrive, internal storage, SD storage and network storage. Having Proton Drive set here would make file management much easier on Android mobile.

I am legitimately shocked that this still isn't a thing in 2025. Why the heck do we not have the ability to select directories to be synced. At the very minimum. Realistically we should be able to back up the entire phone to this. this is a critical feature that is missing that is included in every other cloud drive out there.

My use case is syncing the plain text files between devices, which are then edited in a third-party program. Unfortunately, on Android it's impossible to open these files directly, since they are only accessible in the Proton Drive app.
This is a major limitation that doesn't allow to fully switch to Proton Drive and stop using other cloud drive services. -

I'm agree with that!!! I don't understand why Proton developers didn't implement that!

Without this feature the android version of the drive is not usable for anything other than syncing photos and occasional singular files.

I'm considering the switch to the Proton ecosystem, and on my Android, having to upload or download to/from Proton Drive to local storage and not having applications be able to save directly into Proton Drive just doesn't work for me - these are additional steps which I think shouldn't be necessary. Thanks

When I started using proton, I had hoped I could get rid of my dependence on google & dropbox. Unfortunately, without this feature, I am still stuck with using dropbox. Since you've just merged the original post I upvoted "Proton Drive Android App — sync with a local folder" with this one, I'm hoping that this feature is on the roadmap. Could you give us an update on feasibility and timeline of this functionality?

This is critically needed for me. I run several applications with synchronized data stored in ProtonDrive across multiple devices, and I am unable to sync certain cross-platform apps on Android because I cannot sync Proton Drive as a filesystem target.

This is essential to me. Ideally Proton Cloud would work in Android exactly like in Windows, from a user perspective. I would have "My Files" somewhere on my Android tablet or phone where my Android file manager can locate and access the files. Then I could open the files with whatever default app I have.
How I currently work it in OneDrive: I am using the cheapest OneDrive tier that has OD act exactly like Proton Cloud. An additional app, OneSync, helps me to store the cloud files on my tablet and has the location act like any other folder from where I can access files and use them with default apps.

That'd be amazing, especially since syncing with photo albums already works as intended.

Yeah. Folder sync/upload. I would use that instead of Photo Sync tbh

This feature would be very helpful to me since it would allow other apps to open Proton Drive files, which is the main use case of a cloud storage for me.
I really hope it gets implemented, in which case I would surely pay for a Proton Unlimited subscription and use Proton Drive as my main cloud storage.
Thank you in advance,
François. -

I fully agree with all people here, I would also very much like to be able to sync my Obsidian vault across devices in Proton Drive, especially android.

Hello.
This feature is essential for me at work and for personal use.
I don't want to depend on Google, Microsoft, or another multinational company that, ultimately, doesn't respect my privacy and even profits from my data.

I use a privacy-focused notes setup with Obsidian and Saber, and Proton Drive for secure backups. The only missing piece is automatic local folder sync on Android. Right now, I have to use Syncthing to keep everything in sync between my phone and desktop. If Proton Drive added this feature, I could rely fully on Proton’s ecosystem without needing any third-party tools. Would love to see this implemented!
