Photo Albums, tagging, location search
Albums, photo tagging, search by location for Proton Drive Photos.
Pretty much like Google Photos, but encrypted. Probably without the automatic classification since that would require you to see my photos :D
With today's addition of Albums into Proton Drive, some of the requested features have already been completed, with more already being announced as part of our future plans and development.
As Albums on Proton Drive develops, the rest of your photo-album related feature requests will make their way! In the meantime, please make use of the feature and help us develop it further starting today!

Sounds nice, but there are so many other things that are more important for Proton to deal with than this right now.

Photo Albums, tagging, location search...
Sounds nice but defeats the purpose of ProtonDrive and that is to get away from all those google features. Drive Photos is fine as its. Its a place to store stuff without being catalogued by a machine, that machine then stores record of every photo. Thats what google and microsoft have been doing, looking at our pics.
PLEASE DONT RUIN ProtonDrive with this

I use Google Photos daily but without photo albums, tagging, location, search, potential advanced features such as classifications, it cannot be replaced by Proton Drive.

As an example, ente.io is open-source and offers various features for photo management.

It’s essential to be able to organize photos into shareable folders. Having to share one photo at a time is unsustainable. This is the final step for ditching Google Photos. We need to be able to easily share albums with family even if they don’t have a proton account.

Given how Proton has announced their release of an on-device AI tool, it should be feasible to do a similar thing for photos.

Having a cool little photo map, some basic facial recognition to help me categorise and search easily and I'm completely sold.
I appreciate this is a complex ask, but the support for it is there and if Proton can pull this off I can finally ditch Google, as Google Photos is the only service I still use.

I take a lot of photos and being able to organize them into albums is extremely important to me so I can easily find them/show when needed.

Add albums and other sort methods. Being able to then share out the albums with links that can expire like with drive. Maybe even a dedicated proton photos app

an album\folder and search features are critical for people like me who want to move from google drive. having all the pictures in one single photo section is unbearable.

and above all, when transferring an album with a sub-folder already created on HDD, that it be kept as such and avoid recreating the album (that would be a big plus compared to google photo). i hope i make myself understood because i'm going through a translator ^^".

good morning,
indeed, i have everything organized in folders by year with subfolders in my HDD and i would like it to keep everything when i put it on protondrive like the cloud site "degoo". without that, it's a waste for me (that's why i don't use google photo). i can't see myself redoing my classification ^^". -

I was excited to see that a photos feature had arrived on the iOS app but I haven’t yet experienced it. I am alarmed at the language and permissions used to enable the feature. The app says that in order to enable the feature, I must grant permission to my photos so that they can be backed up and removed from my device. I don’t necessarily want my photos to be deleted from my device and I see no settings in the app to control that. Why can’t the feature work with photos that I’ve already copied to drive from Google Photos?
I don’t believe this feature should be included in the Drive app. Google started down that road before reversing course, and for good reason. Photos requires a completely different interface, and probably a different storage location. I hope photos will be moved to a new app. I may try it then, provided there are settings.

Albums and search would be nice, but for now I would settle with being able to easily scroll through my photos by date (in the web interface or the android app).
With 20,000+ photos going back some 10 years or so, scrolling back more than a few months takes approximately forever.
The interface on google photos is quite nice for that - as I scroll, on the edge of the screen I can use the controls to quickly scroll to a given year/month.
Currently on the proton web app I can kindof drag the scroll bar and try to find given months (though only the month labels show up in the greyed-out/loading images, not the year), but in android I can only try to scroll normally.

I purchased Proton Unlimited and was really excited to start using the Photos backup for mobile. The problem is not all of the photos are correctly dated and if I would like to show a picture to anyone it takes to long for it to load and find the photos. If the scroll bar on the side displayed the date as you scroll that would be very helpful. But the best solution would be if we could create albums to organize special occasions. It would also make it nice if we could say download specific albums and so that they do not need to load in every time we want to view anything. The ability to switch on and off an album to on device and off device would be outstanding.

I purchased Proton Unlimited when I saw that photo backup had arrived. I was a bit underwhelmed with the lack of features, though.
There's a growing bunch of people who really really really want to get rid of Google, and it will help the process immensely if small (but important) stuff like photo albums were a thing in Proton as well!
