Proton Docs Improvements
The ability to have a non-pageless design, a ruler, line spacing so it can be used for academic papers (think double space, 1.15, 1.5, etc...), ability to open PDFs in Proton Docs, word count, and the paint format feature. Also, please add the ability for the mobile versions of Proton Drive to edit Proton Docs in the app or a separate Proton Doc app. I love Proton Docs though it's amazing and the UI is beautiful.

These are the things that forces me to keep using Google Docs. And an option to add a Table of Contents would also be nice!
Love the UI and general feel! -

Having pages, line spacing, special characters and the ability to add a header and footer as well as page numbers are the only things keeping me from using Proton Docs. Not having these features makes it difficult to use effectively.

The lack of all of these, most importantly the pageless design, have got me stuck halfway between a migration from Google to Proton. It's such a deal-breaker if you spend a lot of time in docs and cannot be overstated.
That non-pageless working environment also stopping me selling the idea of moving to Proton for other office workers who spend a lot of time in docs, including my own wife, and I bought a Proton Duo account.

Dear Proton team,
thank you for your work. I have been using protonmail for the last 5 to 7 years and some months ago I finally decided to contribute to your work by opting for a unlimited monthly plan ( and considering duo because I want access to protonmeet) since I really appreciate your work. What was also a determining factor for me was proton docs. I've loved using g..gle docs for its convenience but Im on a mission of deg..gling my life and not living under the G..gle yoke however for protondocs to be realistic and viable alternative you need to add tabs and pages please. Any other feature like dark mode, more fonts, zooming in/out, choosing to print, exporting a tab or all tabs as pdf, selecting the email address that appears as the author of the document, sharing with non-Proton usersl, checklist making, headers & footers would be helpful and a welcome addition but tabs and pages are crucial. Thank you team <3

Pages would be great! As well as the ability to zoom in/out on the page so that it can take up more than just a narrow column in the center of the screen.

Definitely need pages instead of pageless and possibly more font options? (I love century gothic font and miss it dearly)

I'd like to see more chart options in sheets (I deal with stock prices, so I'd like to see a waterfall chart like Google Sheets offers. Thought I could jump right into Proton Sheets but alas, no waterfall chart. Not everyone needs it, but it sure is helpful to me. I'm pretty sure others would benefit from more chart options as well.

It is great that we have spreadsheets now but I feel that docs are a bit unfinished - they have very basic formatting, no default styles, no outline and no pagination (which for printing and PDF export is essential) It would really be great to get all this. For now it is too basic to really do any serious writing in.
I also remember that making docs more robust was on the spring roadmap (I think)?

Adding paged layout, word count, and mobile editing would be amazing, but I'd also love to see paragraph formatting (e.g. line spacing), and tabbed documents like in Google docs!

Having to do a print preview just to see where the page breaks are is unacceptable.

I would really like to see the ability to have subscript and superscript, as well as hanging indent and changing the page margins.

The pageless design Proton Docs currently has is *painful*! Give me clear page borders, page counts, etc. PLEASE!!! I want to use this for school/work, but I don’t even know how many pages I need to print!
I spend Hours of extra time on my writing in Google Docs getting the formatting perfect with page breaks and headers and spacing, but I can’t do that in Proton Docs (yet).

Also PLEASE work on a spell check feature with some configuration options. Relying on the browser spellcheck is killing me. I really want to use Proton Docs as my permanent word processor, but there are things I simply cant do with it as is.

It should be fairly simple to at least import the LibreOffice features

totally agree. I have moved much of my google docs into Proton but the lack of edition features makes it really painful. No table, no paragraph formatting... the gap with google doc and Word is really huge

I agree with the original post and many others in the comments- I need a private alternative to Word to write my academic papers. Not only that, I would like to convert all of my current word documents to Proton and never use Word again! But the features are far too scant currently- I can't even indent paragraphs. I'm excited for the feature future of Proton, please let us know how we can assist in the process!

It would be nice to see as many improvements to the docs ecosystem as possible, including deeper editing, so yes please

Make proton docs its own app and extend the feature set of the editor. Proton docs is one of my favorite editors but I can use it only for docs requiring minimal formatting. Features like double columns, citations, footnotes, headers and footers, table of contents and export capability would be a great start.
