Proton Docs import/export .odt
Besides .docx, many of us who use Linux and free/open-source software like LibreOffice Writer sometimes use .odt instead. It would be wonderful to have a direct export/download to .odt within Proton Docs

It should be a free doc format, like ODT. Microsoft proprietary (capitalist) craps are not standard: Microsoft wants people use only their software and formats and nothing else. If Proton fights for privacy, he must support free software and formats since without free software, free formats, and free hardware no privacy, digital freedom, and freedom.

I believe any option to export to ODT would be inline with Proton vision

Even if docx is a format more used, Proton should use odt instead as it is an open and standardized format while docx is proprietary and belongs to Microsoft.

Very much agree! This is critical to efficiently collaborate with people without access to MS Office. ODF is also literally an international standard (ISO 26300) so there is no reason not to use it as default format, or at least as export option.

I find it interesting that the only option when downloading the file from Drive is docx instead of an open file format. We should at least be able to change this to something open and portable like Markdown (which, from memory, Standard Notes note entries are built upon).
I want to move away from having dozens of Word documents, not more of them.
(To be fair, there are more file types available if downloading a document from within Docs instead of Drive.)

Wholeheartedly agree. Want nothing to do with docx and any closed MS format. It would be great to not only support ODF formats, but also be able to choose the default format of any new documents to suit the needs of the user.

Basically, the proton docs created on the Proton Drive Web are attached to .protondoc format. This format is exclusive and does not open with Word, Libreoffice or anyhthing else.
I think it's urgent that we can change the standard format in a menu or even if we choose the format every time we create a new Proton Docs file.
The protondoc file format is a problem cause if the user wants to migrate a lot of files and/or folders, he will have a huge problem with those document files that only works in Proton ecosystem, I think it doesn't aligns to Proton's vision.

Very important feature for me. Hope that Proton developers are already working in that like a open source code lovers.
