Shared photo library
As a family, we love the Google Photos feature of having a shared photo library that syncs instantly from our Android phones. Proton Drive should implement more of these Google Photos features, but with encryption. We need this joint photo sharing feature on Android for our photo libraries. We do not want to choose albums each time again, but an automatic sync feature among partners.

Same as others below - being able to share a link to a folder for anyone to view is critical for me. Currently the way I share photos is selecting a bunch of photos and sharing via iCloud link. I don’t use social media so this is my only way.

Having the ability to share photo albums with a link to non Proton users is a must for a complete transition from Google Photos. This is very important to me.

We want to ditch Google but this missing feature is preventing us!
Specifically the feature, when enabled, is that all photos are shared between family members of an account, allowing family members to immediately see new photos as they are backed up.

How can it be thinkable that such a basic function for a photo library is not included by default?? The first reason for creating a photo library is to share it.

I think it's a shame that you can't view images recorded from your smartphone on the computer app via Proton Drive, even though you can view them on the mobile app or web app.

iOS has a feature called Shared Photo Library. When enabled in the camera view, all photos taken are automatically added to a shared cloud album accessible to family members.
It would be incredibly useful if Proton Drive Photos could sync with this iOS Shared Photo Library. Specifically, if all shared library images could be automatically directed to a chosen shared album in Proton Drive. This would eliminate the need to manually select and add images to a shared family album afterwards.

My partner and I want to share and easily view all our photos together. Currently, Proton allows sharing albums between Proton accounts, but photos from shared albums don’t appear in the main timeline, i.e. the “Photos” tab.
This means Proton doesn’t fully meet our needs when using two separate accounts. At the moment, we have to share a single account for the Drive part to work as we want.
I’m not concerned about how this feature would be implemented, whether through a global setting, an option per shared album, or a Proton Duo plan feature.
Previously, on my self-hosted Nextcloud, we had this functionality, and it’s one of the features I regret losing after moving to Proton.

Great idea. My wife and I often share pictures and back up to our individual proton accounts, duplicating a lot of photos.
Another very nice feature would be to share albums with non-proton users via a link just like you can currently share individual photos/videos.

You can share photo albums in Proton Drive but only by email address... and I bet the only people you can share with are those with Proton accounts.
No such restriction should exist. I should be able to share photo albums by link.
If Proton really wants to be a contender with respect to Google, emulating Google functionality should be top priority. The lack of this functionality is a big turnoff for me to use the feature.

Really important missing feature!
When opening any document it's imperative that we can just send it to Proton Drive and the easiest way to do that is through the iOS's Share functionality.

Photos is good, but the Album structure is a pain as there's currently no way to import Albums from Google Photos or other providers, and so we need to re-create every album manually. However many of us already have local Albums on our phones via whatever non-Proton app we've been using.
Please allow a Share option when selecting multiple photos locally to upload to Drive in an Album (either new or existing). This would significantly speed up the use of Albums and make it easier for us all to use Drive as our default Photos app by getting Drive's albums to match whatever we've setup previously.
When a user would select multiple photos on their phone, they'd click the Share icon, and instead of just seeing the Drive icon, they'd also see 2 other Proton Drive options: New Album and Existing Album. Then when they select one of those options, Drive would do a check to see if those photos are already backed up in Proton, and if they already are, then they'd be added to an album. That way if a user has say 10 local albums, they could quickly select all the photos in each album, click Share, and then click one of these 2 new icons to then quickly recreate that album in Drive. Currently there is no easy workaround for this, as users need to manually go through their entire photo library to and select each photo manually to add to an album. This is especially painful if the photos library is large and/or spans several years

To encourage the adoption of Proton Drive (vs. American solutions like Dropbox or GDrive), it is imperative that the "Share" functionality can be used from any other application.

I'm testing to see if I can migrate from Dropbox to Proton Drive and purchase the Family plan, but the lack of Share shortcut is really a bummer. I see there's the option of using via Files app, but that prevents us from setting the PIN lock (which works fine with Dropbox).

Yeah having to go through the files app works but is a poor experience. Share sheet shortcut like Dropbox or others is a much better experience.

I agree - On IOS this is possible as described below. But it would be nice to have a shortcut (Share Icon -> Proton Drive) - just like I can use for Proton Mail (Share Icon -> Proton Mail)

I'm just trying to bind myself to Proton. However, to get my wife to bind as well, we will want to be able to auto share our photos. This is kind of like Pauli's exclusion principle.

For iOS users, here are the steps:
1. Tap the Share icon.
2. Select Save to Files (by default, this will take you to iCloud Drive).
3. Tap the left chevron icon at the top.
4. Under Locations, you'll see options like iCloud Drive and On My iPhone. Here, you should also see Proton Drive.
5. Tap Proton Drive.
6. Accept the prompt to enable Proton Drive in the Files app. That’s it! You’re all set.
I hope this explanation helps everyone!

This would be a game changer for family plan: family take pictures with different phones and being able to have them all shared in the same folder would make transition from family member from Google/iCloud etc to Proton way easier
