Speed Improvements For Photos
The Photos Feature is pretty cool. I don't do much with my photos, and I'm so close to just switching to it as my primary photos app (Just use it as a backup right now). However, the very slow speed of the photos loading when scrolling through is just unusable. I don't know what exactly causes it to be slow, but my guess would be the encryption. Perhaps use a faster standard like Ente does. Thank you for your time!

Me and my wife migrating everything from google. Our user experience has been nothing other than horrible. Photos super slow loading, sometimes they don't even load. Albums that were deleted still show up as empty, the list goes on.
We paid a yearly subscription just to be met with a crazy poor experience, to the point we're thinking in going back to google.
There's little to no feedback anywhere about this topic even though there's no lack of user complains.

Being able to configure the size of local cache, or defaulting to looking for the photos first in a local directory before going to the network to retrieve them would speed this up immensely.

A page of photo thumbnails on Android (9 photos) can take upwards of 30 seconds to load on a 1Gigabit connection. Absolutely unusable for anything other than glacier style tier-3 backup.

Definitely slower than it should be on iOS. Leads to a poor initial user experience when users with large photo libraries try to use the solution.

The encryption should not even be that slow, unless Proton is making the grave mistake of RSA encrypting each photo instead of using a "hybrid" encryption mode that allows encrypting each photo with something fast like AES-GCM and then encrypting the AES key once under RSA.
This must be fixed.

I second this. The thumbnail creation is insanely slow and seemingly one-threaded. Makes it impossible to scroll through and look for things.
