Allow Proton Photos to index photos stored in Drive folders
Problem: I currently manage my large photo archive in folders, grouped per year, so I am not depending on one photo library (like Apple Photo's).
Wish: Let Proton Dive index photo's from such folders, so users can use both the folder structure as well as the Photo gallery. Allow users to mark one or more Drive folders as "Photo folders". Proton Photos should automatically index the supported media files inside those folders while preserving the original folder structure.
Currently, it looks like photo's uploaded in folders to Drive, are considered as 'files' and not indexed as 'photo's'.
Result: More flexibility for users who are migrating from Apple Photo's or Google Photo's. Many users wish to store photo's privacy secured, but with a similar advanced photo gallery like Apple of Google.
This would attract more (new) users moving their photo's to Proton with subsequent more (paid) users for Proton.
It is currently my main road block from fully use Proton.

I have photos from phones, digital cameras, and scans of prints going back decades. They are sorted by year then month, and day, then sometimes by event/location. With only 500 albums allowed, I would not get halfway through an import to proton photos.
FWIW, Microsoft OneDrive does index photos stored in folders outside of Pictures and Photo folders. I can also browse the camera roll from my phone, and alter the folder structure after the fact. They are cutting back on storage for Family Plans though, so I am looking for alternatives.
This, and the limit of 500 albums makes Proton Photos sort of unusable.

I couldn't agree more. In the era of digital pictures we all end up with thousands of pictures. Why have them in a single ginormous camera roll on Proton Photos?! Yes, we can use albums, but it's just a tagging system. I keep my photos organized in folders both on my phone and SSD and for coherence reasons I have to upload them to Proton Drive and not Proton Photos. Please find a solution!
