   I’d like to propose a single feature that would improve Proton Drive:

   Idea: Make virtual Topic Maps inherit the most restrictive sharing permissions of the items they contain, with an optional override to set separate permissions for the collection itself.

   Why it matters:

   • Guarantees that a virtual collection never exposes a file to a broader audience than the file’s original sharing settings.
   • Allows teams to create a “read‑only” view of a project while keeping the underlying assets private.
   • Aligns with Proton’s zero‑knowledge model – permissions are enforced client‑side.

   Suggested implementation (high‑level):

   • When a Topic Map is rendered, compute the intersection of all member permissions.
   • Show the resulting effective permission badge in the UI.
   • Provide a “Override permissions” toggle for power users who need a different sharing model.

   Idea: Enable users to create a new Proton Doc or Sheet from within a Topic Map, automatically inheriting the map’s tag(s) and sharing settings.

   Why it matters:

   • Project documentation stays logically linked to the same set of assets, reducing the chance of orphaned files.
   • Teams can spin up meeting notes, design specs, or spreadsheets that are instantly discoverable via the same tag.
   • Keeps the workflow inside Drive, avoiding the need to manually copy‑paste links.

   Suggested implementation (high‑level):

   • Add a “New Doc from Topic” button in the Topic Map view.
   • The newly created document receives the same encrypted tag metadata and inherits the collection’s sharing permissions.

6. Invite users to access a folder that was originally shared with you

   Make it possible to share a folder/document that was originally shared with you. So if user A invited me to collaborate on a folder, I want to be able to share it with user B. Currently, only the maker of the folder/file can share the folder/file with other users, making teams very dependent on user A. Would be great if we could get this, thanks!

8. Be able to edit files using local apps and store back to Protondrive

   Would be nice to be able to work with files directly in protondrive (in essence have protondrive as a folder on my computer). So I can open the files and save them back to PD.

10. Bookmarks on phones

    Proton should add the ability to bookmark specific folders on Android and iOS devices, similar to the Quick Access feature on Windows. This would allow users to navigate to folders faster and jump between them with ease.

11. Add visibility for who drive folders are shared with

    Currently it's not possible for someone to see which folders in a file tree are shared with whom.
    For example if I have the folder structure:

    Ludlow (shared with Amy)

    Documents (shared with Burt)

    Important Documents (share with Chris)

    It is not possible for me to open the folder "Important documents" and see that it has been shared with Chris, Burt, and Amy, I only see that it has been shared with Chris even though Burt and Amy also have access to it as the parent folders have been shared with them.

    I would love functionality that allows the owner of a folder to see who has access to that folder, without having to also check every parent folders' sharing permissions.

13. Backup of .TMP files

    I recently learned through your Customer Support service that Proton Drive won't back up files with the .TMP extension, as it considers them temporary files.

    The issue is, I have a program stored in my Proton Drive that contain files with a .TMP extension, but I know for a fact that they are not temporary, but essential for the program to work.

    My suggestion is to either remove this restriction entirely, or to add a Settings option to allow users who select it to sync temporary files as well.

14. Folder tree should autoexpand during navigation

    Similar to File Explorer on Windows, there's a setting called 'Autoexpand to folder'. When clicking a folder on the main area of File Explorer, the tree view on left panel autoexpand to that folder.

    Proton Drive is better with such feature. Currently, when double-clicking a folder on the main area, the folder tree on the left doesn't change, and sometimes it's deeply nested inside, thus clicking the tree to browse to current folder is slow.

    Serait-il possible d'accéder directement (par exemple avec SSH, SFTP ou rsync) sans être contraint d'utiliser l'interface.

    Je précise que j'apprécie l'ergonomie de l'interface actuelle, mais j'apprécierais de pouvoir synchroniser plus rapidement et automatiquement certains documents importants.

16. I can't see my MacBook in the Computers section of Proton Drive

    I can't see my MacBook in the Computers section of Proton Drive, and I can't select and sync the folders I want. Google Drive had this feature, and I heard it's available in the Windows version of Proton Drive. Please add this feature to Linux and macOS as soon as possible.

18. Option to "open with..."

    Being dependent on Google Docs and Sheets, I would love to use Proton Drive to backup everything but then I'd need the option to open files that Proton Drive cannot open with another app - thus "open with..." Google Drive, etc.
