Contact birthdays appear on Calendar
Proton Contacts allows users to record the birthday for each contact. It would be great if these birthdays could automatically appear in Proton Calendar.

The only reason I can't switch to proton calendar exclusively is this missing feature

This is the one thing holding me back from switching to Proton Calendar.

It is important to add these anniversary days, so I won't have to use Google calender anymore.

This is the reason I don't use proton calender exclusively. But it's a hassle to work with two calendars. For me it will make all the difference for swapping to Proton completely.

This is important because currently I have to duplicate effort, and that's not fun for a lazy person. iOS has a nice feature that when the notification pops up, it calculates the age, and I don't have to do math (again I'm either too busy or lazy, you decide). I use the dates in the contact list to keep track of birthdays, anniversaries, and when people pass away. I am agnostic to having a switch to include/exclude a particular contact's date from the calendar as someone suggested earlier. And one more thing... If this feature lands, the other request for expanding the range outside of 1970 to 2037 becomes less important.

Always used the standard and simple contact app (and calendar app) on windows. Now that Microsoft is pushing for contacts through Outlook i'm looking for an alternative. Proton seemed logical, as i already use their e-mail and calendar. I always enjoyed that the birthdays of my contacts automatically appeared (recurringly) in the calendar app on windows. Would be a real improvement to me in proton as a well.

Right now there is little use for me in storing somebody's birthday in proton contacts as I still need to put the birthday as a recurring event in the calendar

I maintain the birthdays of friends in the Protonmail contacts. I have now also set up a separate "Birthdays" calendar.
At the moment I'd have to manually transfer the birthdays from the contacts to the new birthday calendar (OK, I only have to do this once per contact as it is a recurring event ;-)
I think it would be cool if I could preset in the contacts (in the "Birthday" section) whether and in which calendar a birthday should be displayed.

This would make the calendar WAY better imo!!

Duplicate of this: https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/932842-proton-calendar/suggestions/42258667-contact-birthdays-appear-on-calendar
When this is fulfilled, the reminder should be included.

Can you please provide Birthday and Anniversary reminder along with event option

There is a duplicate suggestion with more votes. Yours is better because it also mentions anniversary dates, but it is better to channel all the votes into one post.

Bomott's python script works for a vcf contact list exported from Google, the ICS imports to Proton Calendar successfully
I couldn't get PIPENV to work, so did
pip install icalendar vobject
Then execute python convert.py --title "Birthday" input.vcf output.ics
Create new proton calendar Birthdays, and import the ics file into it
Next year delete calendar Birthdays and run script again to generate new 'ages'
:-) Thanks Bomott!

I agree that optionally activating the Birthday and/or Anniversary recorded for a Contact is a good idea...I wouldn't want every one of my contact's for whom I have that information showing up in my Proton Calendar. If activated to sync with Proton Calendar and the contact's Birthday and/or Anniversary is recorded with a year as part of the date, then I'd like to see the number of occurrences (i.e. age) since that year displayed in the Proton Calendar entry alongside their name and the event, e.g. for contact John Smith with the birthday December 21, 2002 show an all-day entry on December 21, 2023 as 'John Smith (Birthday, 21)' or something similar. The ability to set one or more reminders against the Birthday and Anniversary items for the Contact would also be very useful and have these automatically populated into Proton Calendar. Ideally all of these events would be implemented via a read-only 'Contacts' calendar automatically maintained from the Proton Contacts data with the ability to toggle the visibility of these 'Contacts' calendar events in the Proton Calendar apps and web views (as Google currently does).

I will not use the calendar without this function

If this was implemented it would be the last thing keeping me from exclusively using Proton Calendar. I already use Protonmail for 99% of my email and contact management, this would be the icing on the cake.

This is the only reason why I can't use Proton Calendar. If I don't have birthdays in my calendar I'll forget it 100% of the time. It's a pain to maintain it manually for hundreds of people.

More than 9 months without an update. What's the status of this? I'm currently relying on Apple Calendar only for this functionality.
